Whatever they decide, it would be nice to get away from alphabet soup, even if we do refer to the railroad by its initials as a matter of course.

I don't think of the initials.   I just pronounce it;  something like  "bunsuff."

Most railroad guys I know pronounce CSX as "Chessie".

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

What? You mean a multi-billionaire that owns gobs of companies has nothing better to do than to sit around and think of a new name for one of those companies?

So, instead of alphabet soup, we will now have numeric soup - 2673 sounds about right.Laugh

Ditto with reviving the name "Santa Fe".  And while they are at it, can the "pumpkin" paint scheme and paint everything in the classic Warbonnet scheme,

How about Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe, or ATSF for short?

Maybe AT&SF?

Amen Brother!   Well OK, keep the "pumpkin"  paint scheme around for Halloween trains, but otherwise  "Warbonnet"  all the way!

No, the road should use the color scheme that was found on the Frisco's passenger engines--complete with the names of race horses. But, do not use the color scheme found on the Frisco's freight engines (I saw enough of that during the nine years that I lived in Reform).

I like Santa Fe, but the railroad no longer goes to Santa Fe.  They spun off the line from Lamy to Santa Fe a rew years ago.  Also they do not go to Atcheson or Topeka any more.  I cannot remember which of these two cities are no longer served by the Santa Fe.

Topeka is still served by BNSF and is a stop for the "Southwest Chief".  Interestingly, neither Atchison nor Santa Fe were located on a main line.

I hope someone in Hathaway and BNSF knows enough to understand that railroading is probably the most deeply steeped industry in the US (and the world) in tradition and heritage.  Management/owners have followed this through the years with nameing roads and companies and employees hold fast to their past.  Use of names salute the past and comfort the present.  In question here, BNSF.  Burlington, Great Northern, Northern Pacific, Sante Fe.  Great history, heritage, tradition and major part of the history of the United States no matter where we live.  As much as railroads have been reflective of dollars and cents, investments and recessions, they have also been the forefront of industry and growth wherever they laid track.  Few railroads have survived with just a man's name, none with a bank's or investment company's name that I can recall.  But geography, growth and dreams of reaching coasts, mountains, states, and faraway places is what railroad have been and meant to us.  To change names to placate the stock market tickers or the Dollar Bills does a diservice to this proud industry.  I hope Warrent Buffet can see this and not change this honorable tradition.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.

BNSF throwing over the Santa Fe warbonnet was as bad as Amtrak abandoning the Metroliner name.  EVERYBODY knew what these were - in a good way!

The PR/Marketing guys just have too much time on their hands!

Cornelius Vanderbilt said "Can't I do what I want with that which is my own."  And of course he is right.  But it still may be a wrong decision.

I really don't think Mr. B cares if they name it The Caine Mutiny as long as it stays an important part of the BH holdings.
