You're in the middle of a city, and you want to keep people from having backpacks?  Even though the marathon was going on, many in the city still have to live their normal, working lives.

You either have security or you have backpacks.  You can't have both.

Then they'll find another way.

I don't understand what you mean.  Who will have to find another way for what?  Terrorists will not need to find another way as long as we let them bring bombs into the crowds.

The only solution is total nudity!  Offers very few place to hide anything, and even then in minimal quantities.

Oh I don’t know.  That sounds like a bit of reductio ad absurdum.  We let people fly on airplanes with their clothes on.  But we don’t let them get on with bowling balls in backpacks.

Took a guitar AND a bowling ball on a flight...BTW , they use technology to undress you before you get on the plane.

That [total nudity while traveling] sounds like a bit of reductio ad absurdum.

I don't know why you say that, Bucyrus.  It seems to me like a well reasoned reply.

John,

My point was that when I say there was a security failure at the Boston Marathon, and someone disagrees by saying that you would need total nudity to assure security at the Boston Marathon, that would be reductio ad absurdum.  But I do agree that there is no sure defense against terrorism.
