They could have AT LEAST made it look like a train.

But, then, who could read it? Your train moves too fast.Smile

You are supposed to read it????

The only thing I read from that was that BNSF now has 200 mph speed limit.

I use Adblock Plus with Firefox, and have created a n Adblock Plus rule that automatically keeps the horrid yellow bar from appearing at the bottom of the screen.

It is now sometimes a deep red maroon...but here, now, as I type this, it is yellow again...

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. Maroon in Classic Trains; I have an AdBlock Plus rule for that, also, as I prefer not to be marooned...

(I had not seen it in maroon in the Trains forum before I created the ad-block for the yellow journalism bar.)

The little yellow bar always stays at the bottom above my task bar.  Never gets in the way for me - heck I barely notice it.    I have a 21-something inch monitor, so plenty of real estate to go around.

It's been fun.  But it isn't much fun anymore.   Signing off for now.

Considering all the stuff on the footer is also on the home page I consider it 'preaching to the choir'.

Ummmmm, I clicked the X in the corner, and it went away.  Not a hard thing.

I never drink water. I'm afraid it will become habit-forming.

Did you wave at it first before clicking on the "X"?

Well, that's my complaint...I wouldn't mind much if at all if it actually went away and STAYED away after you click it.

Thank you for the Adblock Plus with Firefox. It appears to have cleared up an annoying popup.

Thx IGN

I notice that there is a complete lack of response from anybody at Kalmbach; I guess that shows us how much they think of their forum users.

Even if all they gave us was some bogus explanation of some technical reason or some other bs, at least it would seem as though they pretended to care.

Come on guys.  We all know that nobody who is anybody at Kalmbach looks at these forums in much depth.  Those Kalmbach folks that do come here, limit themselves to the top one or two posts.  Has anybody e-mailed the fine folks at Kalmbach directly?

Who do you email?  I have contacted Kalmbach several times in the past regarding the forum, and was never successful in speaking to anyone in charge of it.   Customer service is easy to contact, but they do not speak to any forum issues.  And they don’t seem to know who does.

Regarding the yellow footer; on my display, I have a football field of empty gray space on each side of the forum list.  Why not use that space rather than encroach on the list which already has too few posts on the first page?

It is an ADVERTISEMENT for Kalmbach so they would only be inclined to remove it if they thought its use was more detrimental to their sales than they think it is useful for their sales.

THE TASTE IS RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS, JUST LIKE YOU.

BLAB BEER, THE BEER FOR THE GUY WITH A BIG MOUTH!

IF YOU ARE RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS, BLAB BEER IS THE BEER FOR YOU!

----------------------------------------

This thread is actually a PLUS for them because there are at least some people that have said here that they had not noticed it, so now, because of this thread drawing attention to the advertisement, many people may have read the advertisment and are now knowledgable of the Kalmbach product it advertises.

Many advertisers DELIBERATELY want their advertisement to be obnoxious to get your attention.  The only thing that will stop that OBNOXIOUS practice is for the practice to backfire on the advertiser.  To that end I deliberately boycott all merchants that produce obnoxious advertising,  If EVERYBODY did that, the merchants that resort to such practice would go out of business and those that advertise in a kind and respectful manner would prosper.

Obviously, since obnoxious advertising has not gone by the wayside, there are too many people that are not intelligent enough to recognize they are being assaulted and insulted by the merchants that interfere with the potential customer or protray the potential customer as an idiot (I won't eat a certain fast food joints and won't shop at a certain discount department store because their advertising protrays their customers as buffoons or mannerless idiots.)

Under what circumstances does it come back?  I get rid of it once (in Firefox running under OS X 10.8) and I can go to multiple forums and not see it again in that session.

Yes, it's irritating, particularly the magazine image that pops up right about where the 'post' button should be appearing on the Mac Air screen.  But yes, it's Kalmbach's site, and at least they made the thing easy to close.  I say let's be mature and move on.

I get the banner on all discussions except the Trains.com and Model Railroader forums.  I clicked the X and it minimized it, leaving an arrow to reopen it.  I have been able to go to other Kalmback forums and not have it reappear.  In the past, clicking on the X only removed it on the page I was currently on.  It would reappear when I changed pages on the same thread or went to another discussion.  I'm currently on my laptop and it may be more up to date than the dinosaur I use at home.

While I wouldn't mind it going away permanently, I'm use to it enough that I just ignore it now.

I still don't see why there is so much fuss.    I never noticed it before it was brought up in this thread, and I still don't notice it until I come across this thread again.

It's now coming back for me minimized, so while it's as unwelcome as ever on the first page I open, it's not annoying enough to start a thread over.
