That yellow footer.
Posted by trainboyH16-44 on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 9:51 AM

I'm sure you've all seen it by now. A thick yellow bar at the bottom of the page. It's ridiculously distracting and hard on the eyes, and having to close it every single time I open a page is frustrating.

I have a subscription. I renewed it recently. I do not want a digital edition. I subscribe to the newsletter.

Can you at LEAST make it go away for those of us who are logged in??

Until you called attention to it I had never noticed it. Certainly it is not a problem for me and could be of the intended use for some.

I've noticed it...find it distracting at least.  Am already with them on FB, so get outta here!

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. Yes it is highly distracting and annoying, especially when opening the page.

I agree, it is an annoyance.  The page is already replete with banners, headers, columns, and such filled with advertising, so what gives?

And while we are at it, why do I have to manually back-page with three steps instead of two?  When I post and release my message, a simple back-page click with the mouse should have been back in the main thread page, and another will get me out of the thread and back on the forum's main page.  Nope, I am asked if I'm reeeeeaaaaaallllyyy, reeeeaaaaaaaaalllllly suuuuuuuuurrrrrrrre I want to leave this nice intermediate page that affords me the square root of sweet tweet.

GRRRRRRRRRrrrrrr.....!

What is really annoying is the magazine that sticks up into the text. I have at last gotten rid of it.

Also annoying is having to go to the first page of a multipage thread before being able to get to the last page, and then go back to the first page before exiting the thread.

I refuse to do any business with advertisers that annoy me.  This is ANY advertisement in any media; TV, Radio, Print, Telephone or Internet.  I especially find their interruptions to be the

most annoying.  Then there are those that portray their customers as idiots.  Why would I do want to do business with a company that thinks their customers are dumb, or rude and crude?

MAYBE if everybody was diligent in refusing to give them business, the advertisers would recognise their annoyance and mend their ways.  (Yeah, fat chance that will happen.)

Whew…

Glad I am not the only one…went back and checked my pop-up blocker, and sure enough, it was on, so it had to be from the site itself.

Bothersome to say the least.

It is annoying - but in light of today's web sites and forum it is not nearly as bad as what some other sites are doing.

On one forum I frequent, their pages take about 5-6 seconds longer to load because of all the advertising that each page contains.

Another web site uses 'drop down' ads that cover 3/4 of the entire screen until the user clicks a 'close' button - that varies location from advertisement to advertisement, so that you have to view the add to find the button.

I am certain there are others that are equally as odious.

LION did not notice it. It was not in the middle of the screen. I guess that is an improvement. Yeah, the image of the mag should be moved to the left, but actually it cannot be since that would be OFF of browsers running on computers with ancient  resolution settings. That is after all, why the images is centered on the screen and does not fill up the whole screen.

I have several 1/2 windows open and the current one is right in front of my eyes.  So when I open this one, the ad is right in front of my eyes and I have to close it because it is distracting.  It is too bad that if you close it, say 2-3 times when coming into the forum, it doesn't stay closed, since you obviously aren't interested.

However, it beats having a huge ad splashed right in the middle of the forum that you have to close before you can even begin to read the subjects.  A lot of you should remember those!

Click on the "X" to far right side of the yellow bar and get back to the trains.  I do not need to reminded of subscription offers at the bottom of my screen when one generally pops up along the right hand side of the page.

But you've got to click the bottom right every time you open a page.  I have taken to making a plea to Trains webmaster at the end of every post.

The damned cursor is gone, behind the banner, so I don't know if this is right...anyway, turn off the banner machine...I am already a member at FB...

It is very annoying.  I  will NEVER subscribe or purchase trains as long as this keeps coming up every time I enter the forum.

I noticed the banner right away, about the first of the month or maybe a few days after.  February was the last issue of my subscription, so I figured that had something to do with it's appearance.  I don't have a banner at the bottom of any other forums on here.

I had been on the fence about renewing, but the banner convinced me I should renew.  OK, it really didn't.  I did renew, but not because of that obnoxious advertisement.  I was expecting it to go away once they got the renewal.  It didn't.  I received my March issue and the banner is still there.

That Yellow is similar to the Union Pacific Yellow. It can be seen at grade crossing.

And when you click the banner to make it go away - it doesn't go away - it just minimizes itself to a black box with a rear arrow on the bottom right of the screen. :(

Hmm; it does not show up on my screen the same shade that Armour Yellow (the name of the color first used on the City streamliners) shows up.

And I have found that it stays in its black box as long as I am logged into the Kalmbach site, no matter which forum I go to. If I go completely out and come back, I have to push it back into its black box. At least, we can crumple it up and move it out of our way.

But when you click a X - with internet conventions you expect it to VANISH, not be minimized to a black box with a arrow.
