What was the last train you were on?

When was the last time you were on a train? Are you planning on going on a trip soon? The last train I was on was a SEPTA commuter train like last month.

The last train I was on was a round trip from Fullerton to L.A.

Acela and eastbound NJ Transit had good passenger loads. Westbound NJTransit was half full; Metroliner was virtually deserted

The last train I was on was last August in Rochelle, IL. They took the train from Rochelle to Sterling, IL. It was METRA and it was fun. That was the first train I ever rode while not being able to stick my head out a window. But its not everyday you get the chance to be on a train that everyone can see around the world...thank you TRAINS.COM. I do want to get on another train someday, when and where is still up in the air but my days aren't done yet.

It was June 12 and 13, 2002 and I was in the loco with my grandpa, he had picked me up in Milwaukee and we took the train back to Portage. It was really fun, wish I could do it more!!

In June I rode the Lewis and Clark Explorer to Astoria, Oregon.

When I was a kid, my dad was an engineer for the Alaska pipeline. He took my brother and I on a trip by train from Seward to Anchorage in our car on a train of flat cars. We then took a train from Anchorage to Fairebanks behind a consist of early F units. I'll never forget the Sourdough pancakes.

Tennessee Valley Rail Museum, four miles, last part of July, in Chattanooga.

I rode MARTA in Atlanta last year around Christmas. If it has rails and "trains" it's a railroad. If it carries passengers, it's a passenger railroad. I took the train from the northern terminal, and rode all the way into the city. The train was 3/4's full. It took me a half hour and I got to avoid driving in rain and Atlanta drivers.

I can't quite bring myself to believe that if it is on rails, it's a train. The reason is that Philadelphia has subways and trolleys and elevateds, and if I count those I ride a train so often that it's practically boring.
Basically, my rule for myself (in this country, anyway,) is that the ticket has to be issued by Amtrak. Special cases - Alaska RR, Cumbres & Toltec, etc. decided case-by-case.
My last rain trip: Acela to/from NYC last September.

I'm of the opinion that commuter operations have to count as train rides. They're on real railroads, and can encounter all of the same problems that Amtrak encounters--freight interference, heavy passenger loading (I'm sure they wouldn't have allowed that heavy passenger to get on if they realized he'd delay their train so much!), and waiting for the local constabulary to take charge of rowdy passengers.

It's not part of my regular routine to ride trains to work (for the railroad), and I don't ride trains when I'm working, either. So it may surprise people when I say that my most recent train ride was into Chicago last month, for a concert. At twenty miles each way, it ranks up there with the ride my parents gave us on a "regular" passenger train in Michigan, just for the experience.

I volunteer my time to the Whitewater Valley (Scenic) Railroad, and was brakeman on the Thru train (Nos. 1 & 2) two weekends ago. This past weekend I worked on the track gang.

Illinois Zephyr last month, Quincy to Chicago and back. We were lucky enough to get routed through the switching yard at Galesburg but it was dark and we couldn't see very much. All in all it was a great trip.
