NJT Operations

I can't believe here were and still are Rahway locals, and used to think that all commuter trains terminated at Trenton until I discovered that some trains also terminate at Jersey Ave which was part of the Millstone branch. So then why are there Rahway locals and what track do they usually lay over at. If you hadn't giving me this info I would not have known that there are Rahway locals. I also learned that some NJT trains terminate at South Amboy or Matawan.

In the past, some NY&LB trains terminated as South Amboy because that was the end of the catenary.  In the first step of the project, the catenary was extended to Matawan around 1982.  Some locals were then terminated at Matawan while through trains continued to change power at South Amboy.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

www.NJT.com  see all the schedules, maps, fares, etc. for rail, bus,and light rail operations.  You don't say where you live, but all schedules available in print form at major stations where agent is on duty (usually for the line which station is on; Hoboken, Newark, Secaucus Jct., and NYP have schedules for all routes).  But online has all schedules in pdf format for Adobe download.  All other agencies like MTA, MNRR, LIRR, SEPTA, METRA, METRO, et al. have similar pages.  Not posted are employee schedules showing deadhead and equipment moves.

RIDEWITHMEHENRY is the name for our almost monthly day of riding trains and transit in either the NYCity or Philadelphia areas including all commuter lines, Amtrak, subways, light rail and trolleys, bus and ferries when warranted. No fees, just let us know you want to join the ride and pay your fares. Ask to be on our email list or find us on FB as RIDEWITHMEHENRY (all caps) to get descriptions of each outing.
