In the recently locked thread on a grade crossing accident, Murray, one of the regulars around here, used it to advertise another rail forum, that seemed to be anti-railfan, as a recurring part of his signature. I was under the impression we were to refrain from that sort of activity. Is that true, or are we likely to start having promotions and advertising as a regular feature? And was his command to the moderators the reason the thread was locked?
Kindly euthanize this thread now before this gaggle of backroom lawyers posting here go in to a complete fit of apoplexy.

It is an old forum technique. If you disagree with what is being said, but are unable to intellectually refute it, you make an insulting comment in order to spook the moderator into locking the thread.
If you are so worried, Schlimm, then why not PM a mod instead of trying to start something? The mods won't bite. I hear rumors that they are even real people...
It's been fun. But it isn't much fun anymore. Signing off for now.
The opinions expressed here represent my own and not those of my employer, any other railroad, company, or person.t fun any

See, now HERE is one of those areas where you and I totally agree.
I am just chuckiling at Schlimm and Convicted One (of all people) complaining about getting a thread shut down.
Pot? Kettle. Kettle? Pot.
Not only do i agree with you 100%, but I support your effort to raise your concerns on this matter.
You guys remind me of my 4 yr old niece tattling on her 7yr old sister....
Note: I do not support you 100%. I may support you 3%, but that's because I'm feeling extra generous. Actually, Convict, your picture in your signature is annoying to scroll past in every thread.
See? I get to tattle too!!! YAAAAAY!
zugmann Pot? Kettle. Kettle? Pot.
talk about irony.
Convicted One talk about irony.
Knew you couldn't resist.... I still think you're A #1, Convict!!!! I don't care what anyone else says!
zugmann . See? I get to tattle too!!! YAAAAAY!
.
knock me over with a feather.
Convicted One knock me over with a feather.
Sounds kinky.
I think I can hear the moderators rolling their eyes from here...

I think that you'd be very hard pressed to find any attempt on my part to have a thread shut down. But, if someone else wants to complain when they could just as easily go on to read some other topic, then they themselves better have clean hands.

You guys are good at the little jabs and subtle insults. Don't pretend you aren't, you should be proud of the fact.
I do agree on your last part, though. I never am a fan of having threads shut down.
Well, since Schlimm chose to start this drama, My signature has been removed.
I will forward this matter regarding Schlimm et al to the moderators for thier further action.
zug, et al.: I only asked two questions. One, I don't know why that thread was locked, it certainly was not offensive, and obviously very popular, one of the most viewed and posted to in a long time: 237 posts and almost 3000 views in only six days. So why should I confine the question to a PM to a moderator? It seems to me that anyone in the group should be able to contribute, pro and con, as long as the personal insults are kept to a minimum, which they were. How is that tattling?
The other point was a question about advertising links here, and particularly a link to a site that is very ant-railfan. If Murray wants to have or belong to a site whose theme is hatred of railfans, fine, but why should that or any other outside site be included in his "signature?" You nay not like the sigs of Convicted One or others, but he isn't advertising another website in his.
Murray,
I think you are the one who started the drama with your snarky comments last night on the locked thread. Ironic that you should complain about off-topic threads.
Bucyrus Murray, I think you are the one who started the drama with your snarky comments last night on the locked thread. Ironic that you should complain about off-topic threads.
Excuse me....had no idea that Bucyrus, Schlimm, Convicted one et al ran this forum.
This matter has been duly handled over to the moderators for their action.
Anyone else wanna step up and take a swipe at me????
If you really wanted to know why the thread was locked - then ask a moderator. Best way for that would be to PM them. But then you would get an answer without the spotlight. Trains.com is pretty good, but they do seem to lock threads after they start deleting posts and the horse gets beaten for the 6th time with the same argument.
The tattling was in reference to your complaint about Murray's signature. Again, an issue to take up with a moderator. What good is it to involve the whole board? Both of your issues had NOTHING to do with the subject of the forum. They were purely administrative issues.
The main players on this thread are the ones that master the snarky comments. Again... pot, kettle, kettle, pot.
And who among us has NEVER made an off-topic post? Anyone with their hand up is a darned liar.

You know I can post...and I can joke around...but when someone attacks me in such a vile and malicious manner as Schlimm and now Bucyrus has done...this is untolerable.
I rendered an opinion. I AM ENTITlED TO MY OPINION. Just like Schlimm, Bucyrus, Convicted One or ANYONE ELSE.
But you have absolutely no right whatsoever to attack me and accuse me for something that I was not responsible for.
I do not control the moderation here, no more than anyone else. How dare you Schlimm, Bucyrus et al to accuse me of that.
This has been duly passed to the moderators for their action.
Contrary to Murray's comment about Bucyrus, CV and I running the forum, I brought up his including a link to an outside forum in his signature as a question that might concern all of us and not just using a PM to the moderator. That would be "tattling." What I attempted to do is raise two questions for all (including Murray) who have interest provide input on. That is not running the forum. It is hoping all participants can do just that - participate in a discussion of how these forums are run - not just leave it all to our moderators. And i fail to see how anyone made a vile accusation of Murray. i asked a question if his command was why the thread was locked. Maybe it was, maybe not. Are questions and seeking answers no longer to be tolerated?
Why would a link to a chatroom concern us? I have every reason in the world to hate and despise foamers (different from railfans), so dont say that my doing so is a concern for everyone here. That link does not go somewhere where there is a strong hatred of railfans. But you wouldn't know that, obviously.

You are just incapable of reading anything. no where did I write that you ran the forum.
I stated that I have the right to my opinion...and I did just that. But I exercise no control over what a moderator does or does not do.
Schlimm, you are hardly in a position to state how discussion should take place...especially when you have committed one of the worst ad hominem attack I have seen on a forum to date.

I beg your pardon Schlimm...I did in fact say that you Bucurus and Conviocted on ran the forum.

As far as I recall, he has used that sig line in a lot of different places. Going out in public to complain about a sig line Perfesser, is a bit gauche. Try a PM to the Moderators if you really need to comment at all.
I still fail to see how a link in a signature concerns us all...?
I sometimes use random quotes in my signature. I guess we should start a post to see if that is OK. Maybe we need a forum town hall meeting. Or a forum sweat lodge... boy, that's a bad mental image...
PS. What I find funny is that the same people complaining about the anti-foamer site are the first ones that pile onto any thread that discusses where a railroad might be at fault for something. Things that make you go hmmmm...
coborn35 How in the hell would his link concern us? That place is not anti-railfan, but you went and told mommy before you could figure that out, didn't you.

Thank you for your support Max.
I went ahead and removed my signature since it upset Schlimm so terribly much.
Max, stop in at the chat anytime.
