There's five deluxe sleepers, three crew cars, four business cars although one business car accomodates higher "crew" personnel on many trips. I wonder which business car has the "top dogs"? Then there are two dome lounges, a diner and a dome diner. What I wouldn't give for a seat there. I know I'd order the biggest steak. Could we hear from anyone lucky enough to have sampled this luxury train.

I've ridden it several times. I wasn't a "top dog" at UP (I'm retired now) but, if you are in UP management (and you don't have to be that high up), there are opportunites to ride business trains, particularly when they are deadheading. I know for a fact that this train is going to be used by one of the Omaha HQ departments when it deadheads back to Council Bluffs. And, yes, it is every bit of the experience that you imagine it is.
UP 1988 and 2010 were parked on the Great Southwest Railway overpass over Hwy 360 on Sunday. I wonder if these were used to power the special?

Well, that's because it IS a lot better than any Amtrak train. But I suppose the same can be said for any Class I railroad business train. That's what you'd expect, since trains like this are run for marketing and public relations purposes and aren't expected to make a direct profit.

Curious as to what is the max power out put of each power car? Trying to compare them to the various Amtrak HEP locos and motors.

I have no idea of the output of each of the power cars, however is suspect the power consumption of each of the 'passenger' cars is conspicuously higher than the normal consist of Amtrak cars/trains.

Was UP the only RR to NOT use mini bottles of liquor on its bar cars?
One of our local railfans, CNW fan and past president of the CNWHS, was friends with Bill Wimmer, former UP vice president of engineering. This friendship resulted in getting invited to ride some of the EC test cars and the business train on one of Mr. Wimmer's inspections. Of course he took pictures, which he showed once at the local railfan's monthly meetings.
He had a picture of a large bowl of mixed nuts in the bar area on one of the cars. He made the comment that there wasn't a peanut to be found in the bowl of mixed nuts. Inferring that the officials were provided with the best on those trips.
Other interior pictures showed very nice cars on the inside.

We use two HEP equipped cars on our Polar Express trains (12 cars). Of course, heating takes a lot of juice. When we park the train at night, we usually change over to just one genset, as it will handle the basic heat needs. We're talking temps that frequenly dip into single digits that time of year.

AC might be the bigger need for this train in LA. Game day is supposed to top out around 85. Lots of railroad brass and important guests will be using this train as a hotel.
I would expect they would park it at LA Union Station which is just 12.5 miles from SOFI stadium.

My recollection of when I rode a UP 844 excursion, the Power Cars have a through corridor in one side similar to an 11 bedroom Pulman car. I was able to walk the length of the train.
When UP moved its Chicago streamliners to the Milwaukee Road, they opened a bonded area to handle the liquor and their bar cars used full bottles. I rode other RR's in the fifties and sixties and never saw anything but mini bottles. Was UP alone?

The railroads I had the opportuity to ride before Amtrak - B&O, PRR, ACL, SAL, L&N and IC all served booze in minitures - tax sealed minitures. With minitures there was no argument about the amount served - there was also no argument when it came time for the car's crew to account for the amount that had been sold.
While I was too young to partake myself, my parents would partake in a drink or two when we traveled. During this period of time West Virginia was dry, B&O Stewards or Waiters-in-charge, would announce 'last call' about 20 minutes before Harpers Ferry or upon departure from Cumberland - so the drinks could be SERVED before the train entered West Virginia.
I'm astounded how long that train is. They must entertain a lot of shippers and their families, in addition to RR brass and families. I never dreamed such trains were ever that long. I wonder how many people were on board.
