I'd have to go with my favorite diesel of all time being my ID. :-) the EMD DD40X. Being of an engineering background (as in mechanical engineer, not locomotive driver), I just gotta love the simple, brute force solution that the DD40X shows. Ok, so it couldn't corner worth a darn (hates tight radii), but just one of them could do the work of a few of its peers.

I would love to see a modern rendition of the DD created with an articulated truck set...or one of the new self steering trucks....and a modern traction control system. Hmm...maybe it should be an AC unit too? :-) a man can dream. :-)

Ooooo... I like that idea...

I would have to say my favoriote diesel all-time would be the FM H24-66 "Train Master". The most powerful single-engine diesel of its time. Plus, they were built in Wisconsin [;)]. Too bad the engine was of an unusual (read: hard to maintain) design. [:(]

Of "modern" EMDs, my favorites are the GP15-1, the SD45 and 45-2, and the Tunnel Motors.

Santa Fe's "6-motor F unit," the FP45 in red and silver warbonnet paint, pulling the Super Chief! [:D]

Other favs: L&N's E6 locos as they didn't have the built out headlight on their noses, like other railroad's E6's have.
SP/ Rio Grande SD40T-2. Are there any plans to save one?
