CW:  Since my dad left the farm to my uncle, the uncle has had quite a few issues, especially with the bottom falling out of the milk prices.  Dad and I are still scratching our heads on how he paid for everything.  I'll settle for nice and informal, save everyone some money......

Spent the day working on the layout some more, installing ground throws and giving the track some tuning and cleaning, now the Walthers Trainline GP7 I installed a decoder in will now creep along all day long, especially after I re-gauged and cleaned the wheels.  Added some more cars to the fleet, though I still need to renumber them....

Will try dinner, but sister and I are trying a simple recipe for chicken pot pie soup that we found on the internet.  Will let everyone know how it turns out.....

The roast beef dinner went well - far better than any of us thought it would.   And that's a good thing, boding well for future such events.

Tomorrow it's a day at the train show, showing the 'colors' and drumming up business for the railroad.  Gotta hit up the ATM, though.   There's always something I can use for the layout, although I have to set myself a budget.

To duplicate our dinner, the menu will be roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans with mushrooms added (I pick them back out), coleslaw, rolls, and pie for dessert (blueberry, rasberry, cherry, strawberry-rhubarb, and chocolate with whipped cream).  A relish tray provided some pickles and olives.

Time for bed.

Here is our Sunday Dinner menu for today:

Roast beef, mashed taters, gravy, green beans w/mushrooms, coleslaw, rolls, and, of course, the selection of pies (made a nice selection of all the pies Larry and crew had yesterday.)    Added some sliced tomatoes to the relish tray of pickles and olives.  Hope you all enjoy, and have a good afternoon.

A beautiful Sunday here in central Indiana.  Just recently returned from Church.  Next, meet friends at Olive Garden....for Sunday meal.

1/2" of rain was the total out of the fringe of the Texas weather system passing below us.....Need more, but of course that helped.

Paula, I've always had an interest in the history of the Civil War, and if I can ever buckle down and do the necessary research, I could write a book about some some of the interesting characters and events that happened during that war.

The Confederacy had a major general who's name was Leonidas K. Polk, and while he wasn't very brilliant as a military officer, he ended up being a Bishop in the Episcopal Church.

After President Lincoln was shot at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C., he was carried accross the street to a boarding house where military surgeons attended to his mortal wound. At that point, he was still alive and still breathing. It has been argued that these surgeons were inderectly responsible for Lincoln's death, because they introduced infection into his wound with their unwashed, dirty hands. They had no understanding of bacteria at the time.

Good Sunday morning everyone!  Larry, thanks for give me an idea for what to have along with the roast this afternoon.  I'm glad the dinner went well for you all!

Randy, I like your idea of how to have a wedding.  In my opinion, informal is the only way to go.  Save the parents from going bankrupt.

Coffee, juices, and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go.  On the serving station this morning:  pancakes, waffles, scrambled eggs, and fried taters.

I watched a very interesting program on our local KET (PBS) this morning:  Abraham Lincoln:  I Too Am A Kentuckian).  Watched it until just after 6, and then I switched over to the local news/weather. I hope it'll be back on later today, so I can finish watching it.  It was very, very interesting, and I learned a few facts that I didn't know about Lincoln.

Everyone enjoy your Sunday morning, whether you'll be going to work, Church, railfanning, etc., keep safe and take care.

Evening all.....

Busy last two days at home here, had one of my cousin's wedding last night, which was okay, but took a long time (it was 9:30 before they started up the music, and my sister and I were getting tired, so we left), and seemed overly elaborate for my tastes, knowing the parents of the bride and groom (not sure how they managed to pay for everything, given my uncle's financial situation).  I think if I ever get married, it will be very simple, more of a picnic style with a pig roast, and very informal.  But that's just me, and I've yet to find a woman to spend the rest of my life with anyway.....

Had my dad's birthday dinner a bit earlier tonight, very nice and quiet, we got him a new satellite radio, after mom broke the first one, and my sister gave him a new stepladder.  (I love my dad, but he is a pain to shop for!)  Back home at the apartment now, listening to the CN run trains like streetcars (the fourth one in about 90 minutes just rolled by).  Have a good night all......

....Murrary:

We actually did get some rain from that left over weather system here today.....It was just a fine, gentle rain, but upon checking the rain gauge it added to .05"....Wow, a half inch....Most we've seen in many weeks.  We'll take it.

Now it's clearing, so I expect that's it from that system.  70 degrees.

Larry, you're making my mouth water for roast!!  Now I know what we'll be having here in the Diner tomorrow!  Thanks for the suggestion. Smile, Wink & Grin

Here is our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:

1.  Canadian bacon

2.  Cheese

3.  Chicago style

4.  Goetta

5.  Hawaiian

6.  Italian sausage

7.  Pepperoni/mushroom

8.  Supreme

Tonight's dessert will be:  Seedless watermelon

Figured that would be good, and they won't be around much longer.

Hope everyone has had a very good day today.  It has been a very quiet one here, as Sarah took a train out on the shortline this morning.

Walt and I have had the TV on History Channel most of the day.  They've been having things on 9/ll all day.  It has been a very quiet, reflective day.  Take care, you all, and see you in the morning.

We held our annual firefighter's memorial today, to recognize all firefighters in the county who have answered their last alarm.  Most notable this year was the young assistant chief who died in the line of duty when a silo he had climbed in the process of dealing with a fire within it exploded.

He is memorialized with a plaque on our memorial stone at the training center.

We chose September 11 for this annual observance several years ago.  It used to be held during our annual convention, but we don't do one any more.

On other notes, I stopped in at the train show to drop off a poster and some additional brochures and ended up chatting with a local CSX engineer for a while.

Now it's time to go work on our roast beef dinner for tonight.  Busy, busy.

....Overcast, but it is looking less of us getting any major rain from the weather system that came up from Texas, and then headed east, but mostly south of us.  We're to see 72 degrees this afternoon.  But sunshine and warmer tomorrow.

We are really in need of it too.

Edit:  Wow....Rain...!  At about 1 pm, a nice rain started, and continued for about a half hour, and it's still a {very}, light rain, but we'll take it....

Quentin, we had over 8 inches of rain from Tropical Storm Hermine here in San Antonio.  The flooding was pretty bad, even here in the city.

The good news is that the Edwrads Aquifer has risen well over 3 feet from all the rainfall.  That is benefitial to us in the long run.

Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday!

Deggesty

I still remember the morning of 11 September 2001. I was watching the Today show just before leaving for work. The time-delayed broadcast was interrupted with the news that an airplane had crashed into on the the towers, and I thought, "This must be an accident." But, when I saw the second plane crash into the second tower, I KNEW that we were being attacked. This morning, even before the sun rose, I went out, raised our flag to full staff, and then lowered it to half staff.

I too was watching the Today show.....Katie....and was so in awe as I saw the second plane coming around the far building and turn right into it exploding in a massive fire ball....

A bit later that morning, I was in the waiting room of our local Chevrolet dealer, waiting as my truck was being serviced, and the TV was on, and looked up and one of the buildings was collapsing.  Terrible sight...!

Justin, two weeks ago tomorrow, I was chatting with a gentleman at a church in my hometown, Faith Temple. We had talked about the violent and extreme hatred of the muslim people toward America and Israel. And I remarked to him that I honestly refer to these people as "Islamic Perverts", and for good reason. But then I also acknowledged that we should be praying for them, that someone would be able to win their hearts and minds for Christ Jesus.

I will acknowledge that it is difficult to place myself in a mood to even want to pray for them, when on 9/11 they murdered, in cold blood, some 3000 of our own citizens. I could have lost one of my own family members in that mess.

And as someone else has pointed out here, if we give in, in fear, they have won. Let's not let that happen!

Good Morning all!

Spent the night at a friends house with some school buddies after the game where we won 37-7!

On this day let us remember the 9/11 attacks. I sit in silence…

Good Saturday morning everyone.  Joe, thanks for taking care of breakfast this morning!  Everything looks good!!

Yes, let us all remember our fallen heroes from 9/11.  As a matter of fact, I'm wearing my FDNY t-shirt today.  It sure doesn't seem, in some respects, that it has been nine years, since that awful day for us Americans.  Walt and I had gone out to breakfast at our favorite restaurant.  We were heading to the bank, and heard the news on the car radio.  Walt listened to the report while I was in the bank.  Then we headed across the street to KMart, and went straight to Electronics, and watched TV with some of my coworkers, who were glued to the TV screen.  The only way I will ever forget that day, is if I become an Alzheimer's victim.

We are getting some rain this morning.  Nothing heavy, just very light showers.  Supposed to get up to about 82 degrees, but more than likely, they say our high today will probably only be in the upper 70s.

Everyone take care, remember our fallen heroes today, and, as Joe said, Stay safe!!

Hmm. Perhaps a third dimension should be added to the GPS system, and the driver enters the heightof his vehicle?Smile Of course, if a driver does not know the height, or does not read well, he might still run into such a place.

Johnny: Garmin actually makes a GPS for trucks. The software includes height, weight & width restrictions for the route.

Ended up rolling all of the crusts for pies today - but that's not a problem 'cause the guy who was making the dough makes it easy to work.

Several blueberry pies cooling their heels in the cooler...

Still a couple of things on today's checklist, the comes the whirlwind that will be the weekend.

Monday and Tuesday will be tying up loose ends for Mom's arrival...

Afternoon all.  We did get some rain earlier this morning.  Haven't checked to rain gauge to see how much we did manage to get.  Supposed to be some more spotty showers coming through.  Our thermometer is showing 66. something degrees at 1 p.m.

Our Friday Fish Fry is now under way.  Here are your selections:

FISH:  Catfish, bass, cod, haddock, halibut, flounder, talapia, jumbo butterfly shrimp, salmon patties

SIDE DISHES:  Baked beans, cole slaw, corn on the cob, breaded fried mushrooms, fries, hush puppies, mac & cheese

DESSERTS:  Chocolate cake, yellow cake w/caramel icing, apple, peach and cherry cobblers; blueberry and pecan pies.

Tom, after I had my knee surgery, almost three years ago, a couple of times, Sarah brought her laptop down for me to use.  While sitting/lying on the couch, I had the laptop on my lap.  (I'd also sit in my recliner/rocker, actually using it as a recliner, so that my right leg was up a little bit.)

Everyone enjoy your lunch, have a good afternoon, and I'll see you again this evening.

Everything has been refreshed on the serving station for tonight.  Hope you all enjoy!

Quentin, our temp is hovering anywhere from the high 60s to the low 70s.  We have sunshine now, but there is still the possibility of some scattered showers throughout the evening/overnight hours.

Everyone have a good evening, and guess I'll see you all in the morning.

.....Clear blue sky here today.  63 early this morning.  Now, 72...So it's a very nice day.   But still bone dry...No rain in this area.

Radar map that I looked at this morning has that blob of weather coming up from Texas and is turning east.....And, I thought that was our chance to get some soaking rain, but looking at it's path this morning, it appears most of it might slide under us on it's way east.

Hanging computer stuff from the ceilng.....What about all the wires...?  That could be a mess.

And Joe I'm glad to hear 765 is up and running again.   Just wish it somehow would pay a visit to Muncie as it did back in the 80's several times.

And all the destructive fires out west....Terrible.  Bet the fatility numbers will rise as more is uncovered in Los Angles.  Terrible explosion allegedly from leaking natural gas.  When we had this house built...that was one thing I did not want in it....Natural gas.

Wink   Tom ; what a clever idea  to hang the puter from the ceiling. wish I thought of the idea. Foot pain and surgery is not fun time.  Best wishes and quick recovery on your next operation without pain.      Smile, it makes people wonder what your up to.
