Quentin, Cannonball:
Can always tell the ones with out of balance tires as they go by, those are the 'drum beats'. A while back, while running the NY Thruway, got a call on the CB from a double-drop getting ready to pass, he wanted me to look at his tires and see if anything was shaking. I told him the back axle on the trailer was bouncing so much I could see air under the tires on occasion. Back to the balancer he went.....
Played rocket ship on sunday and monday in PA, is nice climbing the four and five percent grades on the turnpike and I-80 at the speed limit, I really like light loads. Off to LaCrosse, WI, tomorrow, two foodservice companies needed product from Mountain Top, PA.......

Evening, all. Produce went well this morning. Truck arrived at 8:44, and we were through with it about 9:20. Then, we had to wait for about another hour and ten minutes for the bread truck to show up. So far on that truck, all we see is bread, doughnuts, and maybe some danish (usually just cheese danish), no pies or cakes.
On the Produce truck today: potatoes, green beans, peppers (sweet, but looked like hot peppers) and summer squash.
Sorry about not making it back in earlier. Came home, got busy stringing and breaking the beans, and then took a nap, and went to the grocery store. Finally got my exercises in a little while ago. Still need to do them once more before I call it night-night time.
Got the grill going for tonight: chicken, steak, pork chops, hot dogs, brats. Side dishes will be: green beans, mashed taters & gravy, macaroni & cheese.
Dessert: yellow cake w/chocolate icing, peach cobbler, blackberry cobbler, and whatever flavor ice cream you want (have plenty of chocolate on hand for Mookie, Quentin, myself, and whomever else loves chocolate ice cream).
Everyone enjoy, have a good evening, and you all take care.
Tom, I am sorry that you do not feel much like eating. Last fall, I had the same problem, and lost several pounds (coming back, they are coming to my middle). It turned out that a bird (thrush) had flown into my mouth, and nothing tasted good. I trust you will get your appetite back soon.
Yesterday, as I was getting the laundry out of the dryer (at home), I wondered, "Why does either the washer or the dryer turn the pockets in a lady's dress inside out? Is the machine looking for money?

....Cannonball.....Some interesting comments.
Speaking of tire chorus on interstates...Many moons ago, shortly after Uncle Sam let me go....and I was still at home in Pennsylvania, late at night as I would be putting the car away, under certain conditions, one could hear the "tire chorus" 10 mi. distant on I-76 {Pennsylvania Turnpike at Somerset}...We were north of that location.
And I suppose the "drum beat"....was tires with some tread / belt separation. Nice song of steady "singing", was what signaled one was doing well.
And your sharp eye on the "engine"....It's a die-cast model the size of a large human fist. Specifically, it's a very detailed 1957 283ci Corvette fuel injection engine rated @ 283 hp. It's displayed on a stand. One cyl. on the other side is "cut away", and one can see the valves going up and down from the "cam", when rotated. Fan belt, was off it when I took the pic. and since I've got a replacement back on it. Original one dried up and cracked, so I removed it and stored it in an envelope.
Franklin Mint made these a very short time, and their value has been very attractive since...I've had it for perhaps over 25 years.

Good Tuesday morning everyone. Yeah, I know: I'm actually awake and up this early this morning. Woke up at 4:40, and couldn't go back to sleep. Going to make a very long morning for me, what with the Produce truck and the Bread truck coming today.
I believe our temp is in the mid 60s this morning (about 67, last time I checked), and going for a high in the low to mid 90s today. The last two days, our high has been 92 degrees F. Hopefully, we'll get some rain relief in here Friday.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are freshly made and ready to go. On the warmer/serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, and the rest of the regular breakfast menu.
Everyone have a good morning, and I'll see you all later.
BLTs and fries are now ready and on the warmer/serving station. Enjoy, everyone, and you all have a good evening.

Afternoon, all. Mookie, that's why I suggested we just stay inside this morning! I don't have any trouble with ragweed, so to speak, but my nasal allergies are sure as heck in overdrive. We have maple, pine and oak trees close by, and they definitely affect me.
For lunch today, I've made some Sloppy Joes, and have put out some potato chips, Fritos, apple sauce, and salads. If anyone has any ideas for supper tonight, just let me know. Maybe BLTs w/fries?
You all have a good afternoon and take care. Our current temp is about 80 degrees (according to our thermometer).
....And we too have a nice morning. Mild and partly sunny.
Might get rather warm today. Windows are open.
Good morning all. It looks like another glorious day. The coffee is just what I need. Returning from the Black Hills, we followed the DM&E tracks through SD into MN. The two trains we saw were parked. None of the power was CP.
CW - must stay indoors - gotta da ragweed sniffles.
only this morning. Pass the cough syrup, please.

matt is on time and on the bus.going to get a nap then run the mower this afternoon.Cw thanks for breakfast.Guessers say a temprature roller coaster will be going this week.
Good Monday morning everyone. Everything has been cleared from the serving station from yesterday evening, washed and put away. And serving station scrubbed down, ready for a new day. We currently have 67 degrees here in Louisville this morning, going for a high in the upper 80s to low 90s. Still no traces of any rain headed our way, so watered the flowers, tomato plants, and our little trees last night. Soaked them good, as the soil was really soaking up the water.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the warmer/serving station this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy.
Mookie, if you're around got your coffee mug ready for you. Think we'll just sit inside this morning, to watch the trains. Got our rockers station by the big bay window, so we have a very good view of the tracks.
Everyone enjoy your morning, and take care.
Up at oh-four-hundred for a young lady whose twins appear to be destined to arrive a few weeks early. Pretty sure they got her to the hospital in plenty of time. As for me, I'm going back to bed...
Got Mom back in hand with no problems. Took the "long" way home, including passing through areas she knew as a child and stops at a couple of cemetaries that contain the graves of numerous family members. I need to find my copy of the family geneology so we can sort some of them out. Mom remembers them, but some of the relationships are a little fuzzy after all those years.

.....A nice warm, sunny {for the most part}, day here. Did get less than 15 min. of rain, but rather light. That's the first in a long time. Mowed yesterday for the first time in 17 days.....Most on here, see me talking about mowing every 3 or 4 days, but since the August dry spell has settled in, that has changed. Believe they said it was the driest Aug. on record here.
Been hearing, what I think is more train activity on the N S route at night thru here. It passes east / west about a mile north of us, and some nights one would think it's just a couple hundred ft. away.
But I'm glad to hear what I believe is more traffic.
Good afternoon. 86 and sunny here, whilst just a few hundred miles away, Bermuda is hit hard. We surely are blessed.
Not a whole lot to report, other than I am fighting a medical issue. More later.
Take care
Larry, glad you were able to get everything programmed the way you wanted! That's always a very good thing!
For our Sunday Dinner today, here is what I've managed to come up with:
1. Italian spaghetti w/garden salad or Caesar salad
2. Leftover pizza
3. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers (dressed to the max, with whatever you want on them)
Items 1 and 2 are served with your choice of homemade dinner rolls, garlic Texas toast, Italian bread or plain or garlic bread sticks.
Everyone enjoy and have a good afternoon!
Time to get cleaned up and head for the airport.
Finally got the right combination of program, adapters, and cable to mass program the four walkie-talkies I bought. Pretty sweet when things work the way they're supposed to. Overnight it occured to me that there were several other channels that I had wanted to include. It took longer to type them into the program than to actually reload the radios.
I hear the shower calling...
morning
drizzly and 63 degrees this morning.time to get ready for church and sunday school.Back to work tonight.Cw thanks for breakfast.
Good Morning all! Washed grandmothers car last night. She was so appreciative of it. She has very little energy anymore. Off to church now. Have a good day all! Here are some pics. The road to to success is always under construction. _____________________________________________________________________________ When the going gets tough, the tough use duct tape.
Good Sunday morning everyone. Nice and cool here, with a temp of 64 degrees. It was 66 a couple of hours ago, and they're predicting the temp will drop a couple more degrees. Going for a high of 91 today.
It is very, very dry around here. A couple of areas are banning outdoor fires due to the dryness. Sarah watered the flowers, and our little trees before she left yesterday evening, and guess Walt and I will water everything again this evening.
Coffee, juices and other morning beverages are fresh and ready to go. On the warmer/serving station this morning: leftover pizza from last night, bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, blueberry and oatmeal raisin muffins, along with turkey bacon, pork sausage links & patties, scrambled eggs, toast and jelly.
Everyone have a very good morning, whether you're going to Church, work, or railfanning. Take care, and see you all later this afternoon.
Thanks for the pizza! I'll take some of the Canadian bacon, too.
If you want to get some strange looks - go to Canada and ask for Canadian bacon....
Not a bad day on the railroad yesterday - would have liked some warmer weather and some more passengers and some more sunshine, but we all got out and back all day with no troubles to speak of.
Found an inexpensive source for handheld two-way radios. So inexpensive that I bought four. Now I'm trying to get them programmed, but the computer and the radio don't seem to want to talk, so I guess I'm going to hand-jam the frequencies, etc, into all four. Sheesh!
Mom's back from MD tomorrow, so it'll be back to life as an innkeeper and tour guide.
Joe, et al, sorry pizzas are late tonight....just been a busy day around here. Sarah got in and got her 10 hours of rest and then back out, CW's been doing laundry, and I've been out on my bike doing some railfanning. Did manage to catch a couple of Chessie cars!
So, here's the LATE Pizza Menu:
1. Canadian Bacon
2. Cheese
3. Goetta
4.Hawaiian (for Tree)
5. Italian Sausage
6. Pepperoni/mushroom
7. Supreme
8. Anchovy (for Jay)

need some pizza.Deshler was interesting today.Q 340 had a genset switcher in the consist. The south deshler siding was full of tonka toys and track 4 in west Deshler had mow cars too. That was a problem with s 386.They had a car with a hotbox and had to wait for a mow foreman to come and unlock the switch so they could set out the bad car.Made some new friends from New York and Virginia today too.I hope csx remembers to set of an engine for the Y101 sometime this weekend.
We have a beautiful morning here....Sunshine. Temps warming back up again. To have several very warm days in the upcoming week.
News in our morning paper: A couple of young people came out of a near by bar {to the RR}, here in Muncie, night before last....and a train was backing on N S tracks and one decided to crawl thru {over the coupler area}, for what reason, perhaps we don't know, but fell down between the cars and had his right leg amputated above the knee....! Left leg badly damaged too.
Paper indicates he's in critical condition. I believe he was taken to a hospital in Indy. That was a costly trip to a bar....Terrible end result...
Hello Americans it's Saturday. Paula, I was a bit taken back with your typo. I was afeared that I had misplaced a day somewhere. Once a day is misplaced, it can be hard to find again,
77 and sunny in Carolina, headed for 91 later. I doubt that I will go out tonight, but one never knows. The foot is much better, though not quite healed so things are iffy still.
Everyone have a great day
