What a time capsule of small town America fifty years ago! Thanks for posting it, it reminded me and Lady Firestorm of our own home town, Paramus NJ, about the same time.
Confederate flags in one of todays parades? Would probably depend on the context. If it were Confederate re-enactors as in that 1966 film there'd probably be no issue, but you never know, the perpetually offended are always looking for something to whine about. Of course, that 1966 parade was right after the Civil War Centennial which was a big deal at the time as I remember. The recent sesquicentennial seemed to be a ho-hum bust compared to the festivities 50 years ago.
Thought just hit me. Since that parade was in Waterloo NY those Confederates were "Galvanized Yankees" anyway. What's that you say? Well, back during the Civil War that's what Southerners called men in Confederate service who were born up North but had moved South and then went off to war with their new friends and neighbors. They'd gotten a grey "galvanized" coating!
Re: Memorial Day Parade- What no bagpipes!?
Q? Would you still see Confederate battle flags in today's parades?

Harriet Tubman on the $20 bill??? [Note the 'railroad' connection involved in this comment...] And what's the 'tactile feature' that's going to be associated with the $10 bill? This would rank high as an Onion parody, except that I don't think it is a work of humor...

Eleanor! It's been a while!
It just occured to me that Ms Roosevelt would have been a national figure when one of my aunts was born. I wonder if she was named after her.

Here is how the D-Day invasion was covered by network news live as it happened, today, 71 years ago. Definately worth a listen:
