All of the proposals suggested here, mean a bigger government.Remember:
Any government big enough to give you everything you want,is big enough to take away everything you have.

...Just a few comments:
If no one will build refineries...Let our government do it and supposedly when they are put to use, they will make a profit. That then, pays for itself. Contract it out to priviate operators with strick adherence to what we want them to do.
Agree, we ALL don't need large 2000 plus size homes...Provide an incentive to constructors to build 1200 size homes and the same for buyers.
I'm sure most of us here in America don't want 3 cyl econobox autos...but just continue to build reasonable size cars which get reasonable mileage...[about twice what they got in the 70's],...Even V-8's and V-6's do very well now....and there are plenty of 4-cyl versons available now that do very well on milage..[Put an incentive on those if necessary].... And we're now on the edge of Hybrids hitting the market this year and SUV's about ready to join the Hybrid market from several manufactures....and variable displacement engines coming from Chrysler this year and GM the same just a bit later...even in some trucks about ready to hit the market.....So, that part of the industry is about ready to move into the next step to do some work on better economies of fuel use....and still have good drivability.
We don't buy large vehicles because of cheap fuel....Americans buy them becaue they like them....and it looks like even those vehicles will soon be getting better milage.

Don't need to tax fuel. Both gas and diesel can be brewed to reduce imissions both in the refining process and in the consumtion process. It would be very expensive to do and new refineries would need to be built for this as well, all adding up to high fuel costs and reduced polutants.

This should not harm the economy because those who adapt fastest will prosper first.

So it would have to be a law, instead of a tax. The way it is now we just buy the cheapest fuel we can find regardless of poluting consiquences and put it in whatever motor vehicle we get hold of.

Everyone needs to do a Google or MSN search on Peak Oil..... The simple truth of the matter is that the United States of America is now consuming the maximum capacity of our refineries..... There is plenty of oil in the ground, there isn't enough refineries to refine the gasoline.....

There hasn't been any refineries built or expanded in America since 1972, just before the oil depletion allowance was taken away from the oil industry. Every other form of business in America is allowed to depreciate its assets.....but not the oil industry.

The average price of gasoline is broken into 42 percent for the crude oil, 31 percent for federal and state taxes, 14 percent for refinery and their profits, and 13 percent for distribution and their profits..... Ask most gas stations attendants across the country and they will say their lucky to get a penny or two profit on the price of their gasoline....

Another simple truth is that while we have reached peak oil, we are still building and purchasing bigger houses and cars, in other words we are demanding more... Last year over 50 percent of the new cars and trucks sold were V-8s..... and the average size of a new home was over 2,000 square feet......

More than half the oil consumed in America is used to heat and air condition our homes.....has nothing to do with our addiction to automobiles.....

Whatever happened to the 1.000 to 1,200 square foot bungalow or ranch house? Why aren't Americans buying and building more 4 cyclinder cars and trucks?

The best selling car in Europe today is the VW Lupo, a three banger diesel which gets 60 mph highway.....Notice its not for sale in America.....

EXPECT THE PRICE OF GASOLINE TO CONTINUE TO INCREASE, SINCE OUR GOVERNMENT OR OUR PEOPLE HAVE NOT CHANGED THEIR GREEDY OIL CONSUMPTION....

The reason most people buy a bigger house is to get a bigger tax deduction....that needs to change.....

The reason why Americans buy bigger cars is because gasoline is too cheap, if we paid the same price as Europeans do, over $5 a gallon, I'm sure we would be buying and building Lupos too.....

Some say we should increase the taxes on gasoline, but I prefer we increase the taxes on automobiles, up front, with a V-8 tax of $100,000 and a V-6 tax of $50,000 for both new and old vehicles.....that will change our greedy habits....

We can do the same with houses too.....tax the living daylights out of any house more than 1,200 square feet......

IF YOU ARE DRIVING ANYTHING LARGER THAN A FOUR BANGER, YOU ARE A GAS HOG! IF YOU LIVE IN ANYTHING LARGER THAN A 1200 SQUARE FOOT HOME, YOU ARE AN ENERGY HOG!

T HAS BEEN CALCULATED THAT IF EVERYONE IN THE UNITED STATES DID NOT PURCHASE A DROP OF GASOLINE FOR ONE DAY AND ALL AT THE SAME TIME, THE OIL COMPANIES WOULD CHOKE ON THEIR STOCKPILES.

AT THE SAME TIME IT WOULD HIT THE ENTIRE INDUSTRY WITH A NET LOSS OF OVER 4.6 BILLION DOLLARS WHICH AFFECTS THE BOTTOM LINES OF THE OIL COMPANIES.

THEREFORE MAY 19TH HAS BEEN FORMALLY DECLARED "STICK IT UP THEIR BEHIND" DAY AND THE PEOPLE OF THIS NATION SHOULD NOT BUY A SINGLE DROP OF GASOLINE THAT DAY.

THE ONLY WAY THIS CAN BE DONE IS IF YOU FORWARD THIS E-MAIL TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN AND AS QUICKLY AS YOU CAN TO GET THE WORD OUT.

WAITING ON THIS ADMIINSTRATION TO STEP IN AND CONTROL THE PRICES IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REDUCTION AND CONTROL IN PRICES THAT THE ARAB NATIONS PROMISED TWO WEEKS AGO?

REMEMBER ONE THING, NOT ONLY IS THE PRICE OF GASOLINE GOING UP BUT AT THE SAME TIME AIRLINES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES, TRUCKING COMPANIES ARE FORCED TO RAISE THEIR PRICES WHICH EFFECTS PRICES ON EVERYTHING THAT IS SHIPPED. THINGS LIKE FOOD, CLOTHING, BUILDING MATERIALS, MEDICAL SUPPLIES ETC. WHO PAYS IN THE END? WE DO!

WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. IF THEY DON'T GET THE MESSAGE AFTER ONE DAY, WE WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

SO DO YOUR PART AND SPREAD THE WORD. FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO EVERYONE YOU
KNOW. MARK YOUR CALENDARS AND MAKE MAY 19TH A DAY THAT THE CITIZENS OF THE
UNITED STATES SAY "ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
"I AM the higher source" Keep the wheels on steel
