Worked in a local restaurant for almost 20 years. They filmed Terms of Endearment there, so got to meet Debra Winger, and James Brooks (Producer); Martin Sheen and Hugh O'Brien showed up for lunch; Caryl Ann Fugate (Starkweather) also ate there with attorney; Dack Rambo (Dirty Sally tv show) for breakfast (my first interaction with the "famous") and Dr Hook and The Medicine Show - lunch and all I could do was stare at the razor blade necklace around his neck. Many years later figured out it wasn't a weapon, but was used for "other purposes".
Normally, I wouldn't walk across the street to see someone "famous" and have no one I would go see in concert. But if they come to me, well, that is different!
Mutt - saw a MRL bottom dump hopper car go thru with graffiti that said "Walt was here". So noted!

Interesting, musta "Tagged" it when it was in this area; 'cause I've never been that far West.
Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
Just getting ready to go out the door, but dropping in here real quick:
Coffee, juices, etc., are ready. Cinnamon rolls and caramel pecan rolls on the warmer bar. See everyone after Produce.
Good morning Gracie, how about some Maxwell House coffee and Carnation Evaporated Milk...
77 and sunshine in Carolina, headed for the mid/high 90s and thunder later. I will be glad to see September when things start to mellow a bit. So far, NO hurricanes in sight. Everyone take care

A contentious woman is like a constant dripping! (Solomon)
Hmmm - Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels, Jefferson Airplane (possibly at the infamous OKC concert), Beach Boys (twice), Chicago, Don McLean, Peter, Paul and Mary, Blood, Sweat and Tears, James Taylor, Chubby Checker, Lee Greenwood, Jo Dee Messina, Blue Oyster Cult (two of the members are from my area) and a well-known old-school female country star whose name I forget.
Many of the performers I've seen in fairly small venues - so you get a lot more "up close and personal" than in an arena, stadium, or large auditorium. Blue Oyster Cult and Chubby Checker appeared at a local "Woodstock" style event my fire department had food and beer concessions for...

Tom, Not Now of course, but this evening before bed time, don't forget to get back on the Forum and Cafe and say: "Say Goodnight Gracie"!
A lot of the concerts that CW & I have seen have been courtesy of the State Fairgrounds here in Louisville. Several have been in different venues. Not sure about CW, but while I was in college, I was able to see a few others in concert, such as, B.J. Thomas, Iron Butterfly, Ferranti & Ticher(sp) and several more I can't remember.(Student Activities Cards were nice!)
Had a very hard storm last night, got a little over an inch in about an hour; very much scaring a lot of people around here thinking they're having a repeat of last week. (was some localized flooding, but nothing like last Tues.) More storms are predicted for this afternoon, but hopefully it won't be anything like last week!
edit: Let's see Larry, how close to "Woodstock" do you live, and what were you doing 40 years ago? Oh, that's right, you grew up in Michigan, so you weren't that close.
In the past several decades our local Ball State Un. Campus has hosted most of the main stream entertainers here, so we've had a wide variety of choices.
Emens Auditorium here on Campus is a state of the art facility and anyone living here in the Muncie area has had great opportunities to select and attend to see the performers of their choice.
Edit: Walt, I observed that mess of weather down south of us and expect it was what crossed your area last evening.....Our skies were clear as the sun retreated....Clouds evaporated as it cooled a bit. observed high yesterday was 91.4....{may have been a bit higher}, and this morning my first peek at our instrument indicated: 74 degrees.....Partly sunny now and humid.

I was actually even further from Woodstock than MI. I had just gotten out of tech school at Chanute AFB and was headed for Tinker AFB in OKC. I don't even recall being aware that it happened until much later.
That said, the concert locale is about 4 hours from where I now live.
Tuesday Produce wasn't too bad this morning. I had 9 helpers, and we had 45 'clients' this morning. On the truck today: lettuce, ochre, limes, green beans and potatoes.
For the rest of the day, here's the menu: Tuesday Mexican Fiesta
1. Burritos (beef, beef & bean, and beef enchilada style); 2. Tacos (soft shell and hard shell); 3. Chimichangas; 4. Fajitas; 5. Spanish rice; 6. shredded lettuce with chopped up onion and tomatoes;
And there is also plenty of tortilla chips w/picante sauce, salsa, con queso, etc.
I think Walt and I will be going out after a bit, to a different library, to return our books that are due today (although some of them aren't due until Thursday), and we have read all of them.
Regarding "Celebrities Met" over the years, Walt and I have both met and talked with Elliot Gould, and I have met/and or seen up close and personal, Lorenzo Lamas, Patrick Duffy, Ken Kerchival, along with a few wrestlers and performers at the annual Carl Caspar's Custom Auto Show.
Everyone have a very good afternoon, take care, and I'll see you all later.
The only celebrity I have met was Gary Coleman,at Allied models when it was on Pico Blvd. He also worked at a now long gone train shop in Brea. As far as concerts,I have seen Johnny Cash, Tennesee Ernie Ford,Red Sovine,Ricky Skaggs,Marty Robbins,Merle Haggard, and Loretta Lynn.
Day 46 of 100+ degree weather here in Alamo City. We are 11 for 11 for the month of August.
To date we have received 7.94 inches of rain for 2009.
Egad! I completely forgot about Jerry Clower, twict! He showed up in a shiney fire engine red suit and put on a classy southern show. He is missed a whole lot by us Southrons.

I was in college at Morehead State University (Ky) and ROTC, but the "Grapevine" kept us informed about such things as "Woodstock".
I didn't join the Military until 1972, after leaving college for Vocational School which my Draft Board said was less technical than college, so I lost my student deferment.
Tom, Jerry Clower is Very Much missed!! Along with a few others that Passed Much Too Soon; mentioning Jerry; I saw a Hee-Haw run the other day on RFD-TV, kept me laughing the rest of the day.
Rain north and rain south.A rumble and grumble here but not a drop. The air is alot better now.Matt did get to go swimming with his cousins today.rest of the week looks dry for now.Cw thanks for supper.time to get things around for work.
stay safe

Deshler Ohio-crossroads of the B&O Matt eats your fries.YUM! Clinton st viaduct undefeated against too tall trucks!!!(voted to be called the "Clinton St. can opener").
Joe, got a couple of containers fixed for you, for work tonight.
Everything has been refreshed on the warmer bar for tonight's Mexican Fiesta.
On the rain front, all we've gotten so far is a few sprinkles, turning to a very light drizzle, then drying up. That's about all Walt and I saw after we came out of the library, and were waiting for Sarah to come pick us up. She dropped us off, on her way to run a couple of errands.
If any of the following tall people are around, I need birthday decorations put up for tomorrow: Dan, Brian, Larry, and whomever else is around and available. I'll let everyone know whose birthday is tomorrow in the morning.
We got up to swamp cooler and iced tea weather today--in the nineties; no more hot tea until late September.

Careful, you're going to give Dan a big head there, lumping him in with the likes of us "trees"...
Brian (IA) http://blhanel.rrpicturearchives.net.
I just happen to have a stash of crepe streamers....
We actually got .45" of rain early this evening.....A system passed west to east and we were on the southern edge of it....A half hour and it was finished and on the way out east.
Good morning! It looks like I'm the first one in here this morning, so I will take charge of serving breakfast, which will be fairly simple. This morning we have a pan of cinnamon rolls, fresh out of the oven, and a generous assortment of donuts, cream-filled rolls and bear claws. The coffee is about done brewing, and in the fridge we have orange juice and pineapple juice.
Paula mentioned last night that someone here today would be celebrating a birthday, and while I do not know who that individual would be, I am leaving my 6 foot step ladder here for Dan, Brian and Larry to use when it comes to decorating this diner.
I will be leaving home in a few hours to head out to our railroad club's layout out on the fairgrounds with another one of our club members. Yesterday we kicked off our 1st day of the Sioux Empire Fair. I sure enjoy myself running HO scale trains for the public and watching the expressions on the faces of little kids, but I also get distracted a lot by a lot of very pretty girls who file through the visitor's isle. Our club's layout is all behind glass.
Well, I hope the rest of you all have a very good day!
Ray
Streamers are all up, fire extinguishers all checked. Ready for a birthday!
I'll be in the corner booth with my bearclaw and tea...

Good Wednesday morning, and: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOM (grandpaw petibone)!! Tom, I hope you have a Very Happy Birthday, and may all your birthday wishes come true. May you have many happy returns today, and every day!
And guys: Thank You from the bottom of my heart for helping with the decorations!!!!!!
Ray, thanks for the cinnamon rolls for breakfast: now, everybody gets to have a double breakfast, in honor of Tom's special day: pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs.
And, since everyone is being treated to two breakfasts this morning, lunch/dinner won't be ready until about 1:30. But, I'll be around, hetting everything prepared for a barbecue for then and for supper tonight.
On the lunch/dinner menu: barbecued beef ribs and all the toppings for loaded baked potatoes.
For supper tonight: barbecued beef ribs with steak fries, and whatever side dishes you all wish to have.
For everyone, all day today, there will be plenty of diet root beer and fudgecakes. (Please, just leave a couple of the ones with the birthday candle in them for Tom.)
Thanks, CW, for the fantastic wishes. I am 62 today, but don't look or feel a day over 90! It is good to have friends remember you! 77 degrees and partly clear in Carolina, on the way to 89 and thunder. Thanks again, and have a great day.
Hey Tom, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! I hope yours will be a good one and will be thinking about you all day!
Ray ooo ooo ooOOOOOo
grampaw pettiboneI am 62 today, but don't look or feel a day over 90!
Which goes along with my standard line - some days I feel like 16, some days 60.
Happy Birthday. Enjoy it, and many more!
Happy Birthday Tom! I ordered a new sprinkler system for your lawn, but unfortunately, they got the instructions wrong and are installing it in our lawn. Sorry 'bout the mixup. Will try ordering you a new BMW and see what happens!
Many happy returns on your day!
Mookie
Thanks Mooks. That new sprinkler system came through here about 0400 this morning and woke me up! I think it ran out of water tho. Must check the warranty.
Tom, may this day come back many more times, with joy and pleasure each time!
My grandfather would tell me, on my birthday, "Many happy returns," and I was many years figuring out what he meant.
