It was a very nice day here. Mostly sunny skies and highs in the mid 80s, but the entire weekend is going to be cloudy, rainy and chilly.
I have a 3 day weekend from school. On Monday my school's golf players are going to be in competition and they have given us the day off to go and watch. Of course I plan on doing something more fun than that.
Anyway, I'll be back in on Saturday morning. Have a good evening.

I am hoping to make a drive out to California next year. We'd return via a different route than the one we take out, and a lot of the fun would be in planning some of the stops, and let the rest of them take us by (pleasant) surprise. The destination would be our daughter's place. But on the way, we might try to disturb a Mudchicken, a guy in a cop car, a certain kitten and her driver, an Iowa choir-boy, and anyone else who may want to be disturbed in such a way. I would hope to get back up to Cajon Pass, and make a visit to Tehachapi. I'm sure I'd also have to include some quilting and other fabric stores as partial payment for being allowed to fritter away my time at such places.
Those whose names have been mentioned here--we do not have specific dates or duration in mind yet. You will be warned sufficiently in advance so you can evacuate if desired.
Generally speaking, trips I take (be they in a car or on the bike) have to have a destination and a purpose. Given a destination, exploration can be considered a valid purpose. Also, given a destination, getting there along active rail lines and past good train-watching sites is bound to be included in the plans.
Life is one long journey, SJ!

Afternoon/evening everyone......
Just another nice day near the Mad City, got up to 80, but supposed to rain later and the rest of the weekend. Also supposed to get cool, high tomorrow of only 62 forecast. Hope it doesent rain too much, my dad is doing corn silage now, talked with him while at home last weekend, tonnage for corn silage is very heavy this year, dad was only making it halfway around the field with a two-row head and filled a ten-ton wagon. Dad doesen't need to bury another tractor up to the axles again.
Not too much else new, we should have FedEx trailers all finished by Tuesday or so, then it's all UPS trailers for about a month or so. Haven't heard too much from the WSOR either since the wreck in Waukesha about two weeks back, other than CN banned all but three WSOR units from their track.
I'll take a fish fry, CW. Think I'll sit on the porch and watch the trains go by.

See - therein lies the difference in age. I would like to take one trip (Maine), get there in oh, 1/2 hour or so and only stay a few days. Then home - another 1/2 hour.
You youngsters travel a whole lot better than we do. I fly - but under much protest, I would go by train, but they won't let me on the head end, Driver snarls at me if I even ask if I can help drive, and I have a tendency to fall asleep on the way to the grocery store - thereby missing most of a car trip.
But it is nice to see where the rest of you would travel.

Boss hen would vote for Sweden....Me, can I take a few days and catch up on my rest (away from the circus?)?? I get to move around the country on a regular basis and enjoy that perk.
We listened to a little presentation from the folks at Festinog railway over in Wales. Enjoyed the dry British humor and learned a little about our narrow gauge's predecessor.
Must try to find a desk under all of this paper by tonite!
Hmmmm...just one trip Mooks? That's a toughy. I think I'd travel around our country, though I wouldn't do it by rail. I think I'd do it by car, and mix in some sections of rail travel here and there. If I had to narrow it to one section, I'd love to make it out east in the fall, with some side trips to the many rail museums back that way.
Anyways, I'll catch you all a bit later. Hope you all have a great day!

I have to get a little greedy here - I'd like a nationwide rail pass, and a free ticket for rental cars at any place I decided to stop. There's a lot of the country I wouldn't mind seeing, a few old friends I'd like to look up.
Or the British Isles. Wouldn't mind going there.

Tea and a bearclaw, SVP.
Willy - I think that's a nationwide weather pattern. I've said many times that it seems the sun goes down on Friday night and comes up on Monday morning, at least in the summertime.
Looks like rain here on Saturday - I can stay in the RR cars, so that's not an issue. The trainmen might have a problem with it, though....
Sunday is now showing partly cloudy, which is good, as we are having a fire service memorial service at our training center in the afternoon, and nice weather would be a plus for that.
glad work is over today.getting stuff ready to go.I'll be wearing my B&O "cincinnatian" t shirt tommorow.
need to get a nap here quick too.
When I was Matt's age, I was actually scared of trains close-up--he's definitely ahead of me there (yes, I had some real steam engines to be scared of!). I hope he's surprised and thrilled, and want to see some Cincinnati shots whenever you can!
SJ has left the building, apparently. I don't know...metal in her mouth can't bode well for tin boots--be very careful if you notice her opening her own cans of food!

mookies rule is it can rain on mondays. glad your feeling better.Cw will take a plate for work tonight. the weekend in cincinnati looks good for thomas.matt still hasnt been told yet.hard to keep a secrect when your getting gear around.
Good Afternoon
Not much new from here this afternoon. We've stuck in a weather pattern over the past few weeks where the weekdays are really nice and the weekends are cruddy. So the nice weather is while you're in school and the icky weather is when a person actually has a chance to get out and do something fun. That pattern looks like it will continue this weekend.
CW- I'm going to have my mom try that new recipe, get the results back to you pronto.
Nothing else new from Omaha today. I'll check back in tomorrow afternoon.

The swamp is cooling down…made it all the way down to 74 last night…only going to get to 94 today.

Morning All,
Went out and bought a new card reader last night. Got one of the USB 2.0 High Speed ones. Man! Downloading a 512 Mb card has never been so quick or easy! I should have lost my old card reader a long time ago!
I started working on the trip photos last night. Should have something up tomorrow, or by the weekend at the latest. Didn't have anything truly great, but there are some shots I'm definately happy with.
Anyways, must set about getting some work done. Hope you all have a great day!

Joe - how is school going for Matt? Bet he knows more than most of his classmates...especially if they discuss trains - which is what every good school should do....
