Willy way to go!  That's the way to git 'er done!  I see that the weather machine finally got tuned correctly for snow, however this batch has a very high moisture content!  Had to plow in 4L versus 4H this morning, which doesn't usually happen unless the snow is deep!  I'll have a first for me this morning...I'll try some coffee!  See you folks for the 'za fest!

As a bonus for starting #901 today I'll set up lunch:
-grilled cheese sandwiches
-tomato soup
-and...tada...fudge for dessert!

Greetings from Burlington, WI....

Snow machine still has a few bugs in it, didn't get any around here, but if all the rain we had the last few days was snow, we'd have at least a foot, maybe more.  Rained all the way to my parents yesterday afternoon, and US 12 was VERY busy.

Well, see everyone later, off to pick up a gift certificate for my grandparents for the Cotton Exchange, a local restaurant, seeing as my sister couldn't get one to the Duck Inn (they were closed), then I think I might get some photos of Burlington and the trains passing through.

Good afternoon to one and all!

Dan - very good lunch. Sometimes something simple like grilled cheese and soup tastes the best and the fudge is delicious.

I went to one of my favorite train watching spots this morning and sat around for 2 hours and not a single train went by. I will have to try again after Christmas.

Thanks for lunch today, Dan.  Grilled cheese sandwiches were great.  (Does anyone make grilled peanut butter sandwiches anymore?)

If it is going to reach the upper 50's, it had better hurry.  It still seems rather chilly outside and I have the temp as only 49 degrees.  There is more rain on the way although today seems to be just a gloomy, somber kind of day.

My wife Joanie does!

Supreme for me, please.  I see I missed out on stomping in for some more fudge.  Oh well, better luck next time!

Hey Willy, where is your favorite spot- in the Omaha city limits somewhere, or out towards Fremont?

Well, Sarah made it to the airport, and we've heard from her.  She is safely in Philly.

On the pizza menu tonight:

1.   Canadian Bacon
2.   Cheese
3.   Goetta
4.   Hawaiian
5.   Pepperoni/Mushroom
6.   Pepperoni
7.   Supreme

Larry, there's plenty of iced tea in the fridge, along with a gallon container in the cooler.

Along with the iced tea, there's sodas, hot chocolate, hot tea and coffee.

Hey Willy, where is your favorite spot- in the Omaha city limits somewhere, or out towards Fremont?

I really like this spot called Oreapolis which is the junction between the BNSF Creston Sub and the UP Falls City Sub. It is just northwest of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, or a few miles south of Omaha, Nebraska. I just discovered it almost exactly one year ago (it was last Christmas vacation) and it really beat out the Omaha Amtrak station. BNSF is the big player and many of the trains that head through Oreapolis also go through Camp Mookie. UP is more of a side show with just a few trains each day.

Fremont is not too bad either, though. The Union Street grade crossing is an excellent spot, but I usually have to stand way back because there is one section of track that I think is just a disaster waiting to happen.

I'll have to check out Oreapolis next time I get out that way.  I've been to both Fremont and Omaha's AMTRAK Station, had a great time at both.

And you caught a westbound at the Amtrak Station which is rare good luck. I see a westbound at Amtrak about 1 time for every 5 times I go there.

I figured as much.  This one must've been a local transfer- note the second engine is a little switcher!

Thanks for the compliment, Quentin.  I owe it all to my Digital Rebel.

Well,

All the stuff is wrapped and under the three...Aimee's pecan pies just came out of the oven, I don't think one of them is going to survive the night!

Anyway, wanted to take a moment to wish all of the diners in here tonight, and all of you who will show up tomorrow a Merry Christmas, as I will be working tomorrow and Christmas day and it looks like we will be there the full 12 each day.

All of you folks stay safe, keep warm, enjoy what you have and share what you can!

Ed decided to put his adaptation of "The Night Before Christmas" in it's own thread.

And it certainly deserves it.

Indeed it does.  Ed is a man of many talents.  Many thanks for sharing with us.

And while I am here, I might as well grab some of this left-over pizza.  I'll just smoosh some into my pockets to take home with me.

It's late/early depending on where you are and it's kinda peaceful in here.  Nice warm embers in the fireplace, outside the windows a gentle snow is quietly falling.  Soft light coming in through the windows from the porch light.  Peace...and quiet...

God Bless Everyone who passes and has passed through this place...

Merry Christmas to all!

Let me help you out Joe with some fresh made doughnuts, and bagels.  I've also got a ham in the oven (should be done in ~2 hours or so) and there's a couple kinds of creme cheese for the bagels.

Good Sunday morning, and Happy Christmas Eve to everyone!

Joe, thanks for making the coffee, and I've got fresh juice made; Thanks for making the cinnamon rolls, and I've just put them in the oven.  They'll be ready to ice and eat in just a few minutes.

Dan, thank you for making fresh doughnuts and bagels!  That ham is smelling very, very good!  When people come in from Church services this morning, they can eat on that, while the turkey is roasting in the oven.  I'll be putting it in the oven, in just a little bit.  I'll also be contributing green beans (shellies) and potato salad, homemade dumplings (no chicken in them today), and whole kernal corn, Stove Top Savory Herb stuffing w/cream of chicken soup mixed into the stuffing, to keep is moist.

Ed, is Aimee would let you bring in one of those pecan pies?  That would be really, really nice!  I love pecan pie!!

Other desserts today:  our prerequisite chocolate cake, white cake w/white icing (in case Jhh drops by, from his parents), homemade jam cake w/caramel icing, na egg nog, and boiled custard.

Everyone have a terrific day, and remember to stay safe!!

Good morning, everyone.  It is always so nice to see so many friendly faces.

I'll just take some orange juice and a couple of bagels for now.  But I'll be back for some of that ham, and I'll save room for turkey too, you can be sure of that.

Good morning, fellow Diners- I'll have to settle for a quick doughnut, then it's off to our morning church service.  After that, Joanie and I hit the road for Minnesota.  I may check in from there.  Have a safe and Merry Christmas, everyone!

.....Weatherwise we are off to a great start this nice morning...the day before Christmas.  Temp here this morning is low 30's but I'm sure that will rise somewhat with the bright sunshine flowing now...

Hope the many stranded {by storm}, passengers are now working their way to their destination.

Our mission in the next few minutes here is to attend our morning church service and then our late 10 pm Christmas eve program tonight.

Hope many others are able to do similar services.

This is the lead up to a special Lords Day.  No storms or snow here to hold anyone back this morning.

Last season at this time we already had over 11" of snow and this comparable time it's just been a measurable 1/2" of the stuff....

So hope everyone will be able to enjoy this day and not forget it's really true meaning.     Quentin Mong
