Diced fried taters, with just a little onion, covered in salt and pepper, some smoked bacon, biscuits and two eggs over medium…a pot of coffee…load the car, take a nap…then when Aimee gets home, a light dinner and we will head out.

Pretty easy, just get on 59 north and go.

Will take a photo of the Mason Dixon line when I find it!

This may be my last post before departure.  Eight hours of work to go, then a quick loading of the car and we're off.  We'll see a lot of you (I hope!) in a couple of days.  Our forecast is for some good weather for the trip west, anyway.  Willy, don't feel bad--everybody else was agreeing with you, too, and you're only as good as the information you receive.

Mutt and Cher, please give your new arrival a hug for me.

Good Thursday morning, everyone!  Well, we woke up at 3 a.m. (and both of us still
up and going) to a light rain.

Coffee is ready, juice and iced tea are made, and have hot tea and cocoa.

Breakfast this morning:  bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, home fried sliced potatoes,
homemade from scratch biscuits w/sausage gravy, oatmeal, toast, and bagels.

To our forum family members who will be in transit today, Godspeed and a safe trip
to you all!!  Be especially careful, if you're going to be running into any rain on your
way to your destination.  Want you to make your trip safely and soundly.

Morning everyone.....

Willy, rain coverage here in the Mad City was spotty, my Bug said four tenths, but the weather radio this morning said seven tenths, all falling between three in the morning and noon.  Cooled down quick, though, had to close windows before I went to work today.

It's been one of those interesting weeks at work, mostly a 'Bad Day At Black Rock' thing.  Last night I couldn't get the computer I was using to bring up the suspension stats, and had to write up torque sheets manually, one of the other guys had a problem with his machine too.  Tonight was going smoothly untill the welder installing cross sills realized he welded the last five units on upside down, which made for one big headache.  Not sure if I want to be at work tomorrow, could be another interesting day.

Chris, nice shot of the Chi-town skyline.  Well, see everyone later.

Good Evening.

Carl - About the instant I posted about the supercell near La Crosse last night the thing started to weaken. I guess that shows how much I know about weather!

Big chemistry test over atomic structure and the periodic table tomorrow. It certainly will have the ability to make or break a lot of grades, but I think I'll do well on it.

Time to do some more studying. I'll be back tomorrow afternoon.

The DIL is headed for a new assignment in DC.  Since they've lost two days so far on their trip, she's going straight in to DC, but my son will turn north on I-81 for a trip up here, at least for the weekend.  They were supposed to be here tonight...

I've been giving him weather reports all evening - and they've been right in the mix of it all night.  He called me about 7 to ask about the tornado sirens around Columbus, OH.

....Chris, was that telephoto shot of the Chicago skyline sunset actually made from 35 miles west....?

That must have been a heck of a tele....Earth curvature would only be about 23 ft. from that distance but wow....From 35 miles...!

That's exactly what it's like!  He got that from Fermilab?  That's more like 25-30 miles away from the Loop!  His show is on the opposite sides of the equinoxes from ours, since he's south of due west and we're a bit north of due west.

You'll notice the John Hancock Center, toward the left in the shot, isn't reflecting any light.  That's because the walls aren't vertical.  It puts on a show of its own a little earlier (in fall) or later (in spring) than the rest.

Thanks for posting that, Chris!  I won't miss the real thing quite as much (actually, I'll be <ahem> out of town during the peak show--wish you were coming, too!).

Larry, how come they're headed south from here on 65, if they're coming up your way?

We got only a little bit of rain--not enough to even dampen the dungeon floor.  But soon after I got to work, the front went through, and the temperature fell about ten degrees in as many minutes!  Except when it rained, I could see the lower half of the Chicago skyline from work--never the tops of the buildings (anyone paying all that money for the Sears Tower Skydeck would have been screwed!).

Another thing I'll miss about working afternoons--this is one time of year when a person sitting at Proviso can see the setting sun reflected off the skyline, especially Sears Tower.  It lights up gold or orange brightly enough to cast shadows back at one.  And before or after the big "fire", the skyline stands out in incredible detail.  The distance is about 15 miles.

By this time tomorrow, we expect to be on the road.  Good luck and Godspeed to all Forum travelers, whether or not Lincoln is their destination.  (And Chad, we're sorry yours can't be!)

Hey!  Somebody get some decaf into the kitty's cup!  She's a little wired today!

Chili is in the pot, simmering.  Bags of Fritos are on the shelf, in wait.

I can probably handle the brats and sauerkraut, although I don't eat sauerkraut myself.  Don't have time to put together the soup, though.  Still cleaning.

Spoke with son-on-the-road today.  They overnighted in Carl's area, with accompanying rumbles.  He asked about some nasty weather they were seeing, but being headed south on I65, they were past it and headed into some clear weather, which should stay with them as they turn onto I70.  Does look like southern Michigan, northern Indiana and Ohio, and possibly Pennsylvania are in for a rocky ride today.  We're in the "potential" severe area, but nothing blossoming just yet.

They certainly won't be here tonight, though....

Supper?  Chili and Fritos.  Brats and Sauerkraut. Beer Cheese Soup with popcorn on top.  (It's ok - the alcohol all cooks off and just gives it a twang!)  Serve popcorn on top right before eating - makes it crunchy!

Let's make Runzas!  (cabbage, ground beef, onion, seasonings - baked in a little loaf of bread.)

Big veggie salad, cuz we all need our veggies.  Vitamin pills for everyone - we must stay healthy.

And for dessert - let's have creepy suzettes!  Baked Alaska!  Cherries Jubilee!

Now - who is going to cook all this?  I would, but I need to paw the dough for the Runzas and CW won't let me touch the stove.....Thumbs Up [tup]

Tree?  CP?  Houston Ed?  I know you all can cook - don't be bashful!

CW there's nothing like a primordial grunt and the sight of a cast iron skillet flying, nay soaring through the air.  Then comes the satisfying thunk of it hitting the ground!

Joe, do they use regular fry pans, or the good cast iron skillets?  As to Mutt telling MY throwing
range, think I need to find an old frying pan and see how far I can toss it.  Don't want to do that
with my good cookware:  it'd get all dented!!

Lunch today:  going to be a help yourself day to whatever you find in the fridge.  Still doing laundry,
so I'm not going to be around too much this afternoon.  Perhaps one of you could fill in for me on
supper duty?  I'd really appreciate it.  Trying to getas much done before those storms hit us later.

Morning Everyone,

Not a whole lot to report here. We've been having lots of overcast skies thanks to the cold front that's affecting everyone else. I think it's probably good, too, since I get to hang out at work so much. Under really ugly, gray skies like that, I don't worry about getting out and taking pictures so much, and can actually concentrate on work a little more.

Mook, your description of Kansas amused me. Last time I drove to and from Chicago, I stopped and saw some relatives in Missouri. Of course, that meant driving I-70 back to CO. I was absolutely amused at the long distance advertising they do there. "Come see the World's Second Largest Ball of Twine!" was advertised for at least 40 or 50 miles. I remember some confectioner that was advertised for almost 100 miles. I think Wall Drug in SD is the only place that advertises more.

Still, in my treks betwixt my two "homes" I've found that Nebraskans and Kansans are some of the nicest people anywhere. I honestly can't remember ever coming across anyone in either of those two states that I didn't like.

Anyways, I suppose I must set about my business. Hope you all have a great day.

^ - I heard my name being dropped several times.

Need to set a few facts straight.

Tin ankles need not worry - he is bringing a body guard.  He did some fast talking and convinced his wife to go for a drive in the country - ending up in Lincoln.  Hmmm - crossing state lines.   Want to ponder that.

Carl & Pat are also crossing state lines, several, but the drive is a good one.

And Mudchicken and Boss Hen - a beautiful drive going east at least 3/4 of the way.

Poor Ed & Aimee - having to cross (shudder) Kansas!  A very nice state for friendly people, and lots of - I say - lots of flat, flat, flat land.  1st hand experience having driven it a few times myself.  (before I got a driver)

Willy has his own driver and a quick trip down the big road.

13 so far for lunch on Sat.  Shades of Halloween.

CP - I have enough gold in my "teef" that I am very careful who opens my "mouf".  But I must go in for a quick filing - so they look like this:    (VVVVV)  (more shades of Halloween!)

Joe - mowing?  Is that anything like.......

Good Wednesday morning, everyone.  Hope everyone is feeling well this morning.

Coffee is on, juice (orange tangerine) is made and in the cooler.

Breakfast this morning:  Corn flakes, Raisin Bran, Fruity Pebbles, Cocoa Pebbles,
Cheerios; or: bacon, eggs, sausage, biscuits & sausage gravy.

Still doing laundry (getting summer things washed up, and winter wear washed up,
preparing for the changing seasons.

Has anyone heard from Josie lately?  Don't recall seeing her in the Diner lately.
Wonder how her book is coming along.

As I'm leaving for work this morning (driving--too stiff to bike!), we have a current temperature of 74, with a forecast high of 66.  That's what they say!  Guess the cold front hasn't come through yet--when it does, we'll get the rain, and we're under a flash flood watch until noon.

Dungeon looks good, though!

What a busy week I've got on my hands!

Today I had a quiz in geometry, world history and chemistry. There is an essay due in English class on Thursday. There is a chemistry test on Thursday and a Spanish test on Friday. Who knows what other "fun" they'll come up with before the week is over.

Carl - Looking at radar I see a nice looking supercell just northeast of La Crosse. It's moving southeast and I think if it stays on its current track it would pass quite near you, but maybe just off to your east. Here in Omaha our already slim rain chances have totally vanished with the passage of a cold front. There are more chances later this week, though.

I'm off to do some essay writing. TTFN.

According to the Weather Channel, it looks like northern and central Wisconsin are getting it tonight.  We were supposed to have a chance of severe weather here later, but now I'm doubting that- nothing on radar yet in the whole state of Iowa except for some light showers around Des Moines.  We did hit a record high today of 90.  Keep your fingers crossed, Carl- you might not get so wet tonight.

Joe, we just finished waxing the dungeon floor a few minutes ago.  When it dries, I have furniture and boxes to move yet before retiring for the night.

Problem is, we're supposed to have a repeat performance tonight.  According to the Weather Channel, tonight's storms could bring another two inches or more.  Ground's saturated from last night.  As of now, nothing's showing up, but a lot can happen in a relatively short time.  Temperature still has about twenty degrees to drop to reach the forecast lows.

We took a walk out this afternoon.  There were several places where high-water marks were in evidence along the streets downstream--I mean downhill--from us.
