Didn't get in yesterday as I was dog-tired when I got back from working on the railroad (it's not so much the work on the railroad - two trips is only 40 miles - it's the two hour commute each way) and I crashed when I got home.

Headed down today for another couple of runs, but the total passenger count at departure time for the second run was zero, so we put the train away and went home. It's still early in the season...

I do have to get into the NORAC book so I can work on taking the rules test. Being a car host is OK, and I do get to do some "real" railroad stuff from time to time, but it'll be a little more fun when I can really do some of the stuff Houston Ed does everyday. Of course, that amounts to conducting a couple of run-arounds each trip, but hey, you still get to tell the engineer where to go!

Our primary engine, NYC 8223 (the original, too) is out for some brushes, so we're using an SW1 (have I mentioned that before?). It has it's work cut out for on some grades, even with just two cars on the drawbar...

I'll just have a burger. All that other stuff sounds good, but...

I'll take a leftover chop, thank you- been a busy weekend here, and I have a nice sunburn to show for it. Blue Angels, and other acts as well, were spectacular as usual, but watching them fly over without applying sunscreen is very stupid. Maybe tomorrow night, if I feel more up to it, I'll upload the pictures to Snapfish or Flickr and link a few to here. Got a few shots of UP transcon freights on the way down to Davenport as well. I even pulled a Bergie, took a couple of shots of an engine consist I was pacing while driving...yeah, I know, [D)]

Press Release:

Due to a medical emergency, the local diner cat will be out of service for awhile. She had to have brain surgery for confusion and clutter. More brain cells were added, the clutter was drained and she should make a complete recovery very soon.

Meanwhile, her doctor has advised lots of hammock rest, a diet of milk and a little chocolate cake and no more vacations for a long time to come.

Her family told doctors they found a small box in a corner of the kitty litter box. It contained what looked to be human skin, from possibly an ankle. Doctors are investigating but aren't sure they can identify the source/person.

Mookie had no comment.

Good Morning to you all,

Hope you all had a great weekend. Didn't get up to Georgetown like planned, but should be able to make it next weekend. After the weekend here in Denver (with high's in the low to mid 90's), a trip to anyplace with a higher elevation will be nice (I think highs ranged from the 60's to 70's in the loftier parts of the state).

Brian, I just happen to have a first aid kit here. Help yourself to some aloe vera and a tourniquet.

Mookie, glad to see that you've found your way back here. Let me know if you need anything while you're recovering in the hammock.

Well, must be off. Unfortunately I came back to a BIG plan that has to be bid by the evening today.

Hope you all have a great week.

TTFN!

Good Morning All

CW [^]

Your supper is on me errr the diner tonight for starting the new page.

That Mississippi Mud Ice Cream Pie sure is going over well. We may have to start doubling the order. [:D] I will definately be in tonight for a piece. That is, right after I get off from my normal shift and the 4 hour overtime call. So I might even start the coffee since it will be about 3 am when I come in.

I see Bergie did a little "dusting" today already. Funny, it is one of the same people who caused him to work overtime last holiday weekend. Some people kids just never learn. [V]

Well here we are already in June. Many of the forum kids are out of school and having their summer break. Awwww yes, I remember summer break, errrr, at least I THINK I do. [B)] [8]

Hey Mookie, glad you are back.

You know, I was just thinking (I do that upon occasion you know [;)] ). You and I have not sent anybody to the couch in ages. [:o)] [:I] [8)] [:X] [:p] With Kevin not showing up much anymore we don't have to. [:o)] [:D] [:o)] And let us not forget about Dan. [;)] [8D] [:D]

Well I must go check on some other things.

Everyone Have A Great Day

Mookie, glad to see you back, and occupying the hammock, once again!
Hope you get better real soon, girlfriend!!

Chris, that's a great looking pic of the eagle. Is it on a cactus??

Jim, I'm very glad everyone likes the Mississippi Mud pie so much. With it
being summertime, I think we will have it quite often.

Lunch today: tuna salad sandwiches, bologna sandwiches, hot dogs,
and open-faced turkey sandwiches w/mashed taters & gravy.

Speaking of Kevin, what the heck has happened to him?!?! Did we unintentionally
hurt his feelings, and he decide to leave us?!?! Sure hope not. But with him and
Dan MIA, guess we'll just have to use the couch for anyone who comes in and
wants a nap, and the hammock is occupied by Mookie.

Hmm, getting kind of crowded in here, with both a couch and a recliner. Guess
we'll have to place several groupings of two tables together, to make more room
in here.

And Jim, thank you for supper tonight. Even though I haven't decided what
we're having tonight yet.[:I]

It's actually on the remainder of a tree along the Madison River on the west side of Yellowstone National Park (not too far from where the eagle on the Elk carcass was). If I remember correctly, this was all part of the big burn in 1989 or thereabouts.

Thanks for the kind words![:I]

In the interest of preserving my other ankle, I went back and removed the link to a certain Rochelle picture. Thanks for the aloe vera and the tourniquet, Chris. Now my sunburned lower lip doesn't hurt so much, and I'm not messing up the diner floor.

Anyone have a crutch I can borrow?

Brian, thanks for supplying more chocolate cake for desserts today.

I've finally decided on something for supper:

beef stew w/cornbread. And that will save us all room for more
chocolate cake for tonight's dessert!![C=:-)][dinner]

Afternoon everyone....

Had a nice weekend here in the Mad City, went to a jazz festival on Saturday night, was a good event, met up with a few friends and had a good time. Also played poker on Sunday, got seventh and fifteenth places and a really nice deck of cards for my troubles (they're the high quality plastic ones that do not take a set when you bend them).

Sorry Brian, I don't have a spare set of crutches around, the last time I was on crutches was in 1992, when I had a silage fork fall down the chute of a sixty foot silo and make two holes in one leg. Oh yeah, that hurt big time.

The stew sounds great for dinner tonight, CW.

Laughing my feathers off:

http://www.progressiverailroading.com/prdailynews/news.asp?id=8952

They are called "sleds" and we were still using them (albeit homebuilt ones made out of scrap rail & OTM) in 1990 on ATSF for spot jobs out in the high desert. They could be dangerous if not handled carefully. We pulled ours with front-end loaders and motor graders harnessed to thick steel cables. Well, I guess it's new technology in Mexico[(-D]

Yikes, Randy, that sounds almost as painful as my 'axe'ident I suffered in 1994- had the family out camping for the first time with our new pop-up camper, got everything set up, and decided to go to work at building a campfire. Only piece of wood available was this big fat log, so I decided to split it up with my axe which I had just sharpened earlier in the week. The stupid thing wouldn't stay standing up on one end for me, so like an idiot I braced it with one foot while trying to plant the axe in the end of it. Needless to say, the axe glanced off the side and buried itself into my tennis shoe. I did a very neat job of splitting the long bone that goes to my big toe. Luckily, there were a bunch of EMTs camped in the site right across from us, and they witnessed the whole thing. Spent the night at the University of Iowa Hospital, with emergency surgery to put things back together, then went home with a cast on my foot the next day.[:I][*^_^*]

Man, I think I am going to stay away from the DD&CS for a bit. Blood on the floor being soaked up by chicken feathers. Jim better bring in crime scene cleaners before the next health inspection or we will either be back to having sandwiches for lunch in the car, or worse yet have to go over to the MR forum.
