Hi All

Yesterday I worked 4 hours of overtime before I worked my normal 8 hours of regular time. [:0] So I was a little busy and didn't stop by.

I have some bees or wasps under the wood paneling of my house. There are right by the steps coming up to the front door. Today is cloudy and very humid so they are not out and flying around. They just appeared yesterday. I thought I had killed them all out last year. [:(!] [V] [:(!] I wanted to take the wood paneling off after dark but several people have advised me not to do so. Those critters normally don't fly after dark but might if their house if threatened. So I will just go the spray wasps killer for now. I only have about 4 inches between the step and where they are going up into the paneling so it is hard to get any spray up into where they are resting. I am not a happy camper about that. [:(!]

Well off I go.

Rochelle....okay...that makes 2 so far for August/Sept. Mookie, without you, it wouldn't be the same. If any of you wants to go and can't drive for what ever reason, email me. If I can't swing by, then maybe someone else from the diner can.

I was at Rochelle for about 10 minutes on the way home from Milwaukee. It was very cold and my daughter and I were anxious to get home. I did see one...a BNSF mixedfreight. Forgetting they whistle through the crossing, I thought I would lose the hearing in my left ear; rang quite awhile afterward. I met a very nice couple from Southern Illinois. They had a good comment...why doesn't Rochelle/Trains promote the park with more signage? Having been there more than once, I still get confused trying to find it. How many people come into Rochelle just to visit the park, just to leave when they can't find it.

Of course, if anyone would actually stop and ask for directions...[:D]

Jim, sure hope you get the bees/wasps taken care of, and out of your paneling. Also
hope you aren't allergic to their stings, if you get stung by them.

Lunch today will be: fried fish, hushpuppies, fries, and cole slaw. Will also have some
baked cod for anyone not wanting fried fish.

Still getting light rain; but they say we may get some severe stuff later this afternoon,
and tonight. Hope the severe stuff does'nt develop.

For those who "must" eat fi***onight, fixing more fish for supper tonight, along with
fries and hushpuppies. For those who don't "have" to eat fish, there will be burgers
w/sauteed onions and mushrooms. I'll also fix some bacon to go on the burgers.

Tina, if we can convince my lil' sister (AKA Mookie) to come east to Rochelle, I'll be there, too. As far as I'm concerned, Rochelle and points east are the center of the universe for railroading, and I have the "homework" today to prove it.

With proper advance notice, any day you set up should work for me. The shop there is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so those might be good days to avoid. The C&NWHS Convention is also going to be at Rochelle this year (it's in May, IIRC), so that would be a good time to avoid, too. Maybe the city can use that little ol' convention as a dry run for us!

Good Saturday morning, everyone. Saturday brunch is all laid out on the
warmer bar; all the usual buffet breakfast items are on there. Coffee is
ready, and the juice is made.

Everyone have a great day.

Nothing like nutritious start to a busy day! Mother nature woke me up this morning with a peal of thunder and a quarter inch of rain. Looks like it will quit before long, but hopefully it dampened all the grass and we won't be out chasing grass fires all day.

...Jim, I'd keep working with the Wasp spray.....That is potent stuff. Believe it will eventually get the job done. Continue to saturate the entrance area.
A few summers ago, I noticed up in one of my evergreens about 10 ft. off the ground, as I came around that tree with the tractor, a very large bees nest. Maybe a foot in diameter. I got 2 cans of Wasp spray and started to work on it...It took several days of applications but I eventually came out the winner, and it was really swarming with "bees"....Wasps I suppose. But I won the battle. Don't know how they managed to build a nest that big before I noticed it. Good luck, that Wasp spray is really powerful stuff....It almost kills on contact.

Oh yes, we have the noisy little critters. Would you like some? [:o)] [:D] [:p]

All of the normal "summer" critters are now out in force. I have not seen many mosquitos as yet but know they are here too. I need to mow the lawn again but it is a cloudy day and I have to be at work at 2 this afternoon. I also have some errans to run also. One of the errans is getting some cans of wasp spray. [:p]

It is about 70 now and yesterday they predicted today would get to 80. Since it is cloudy with about a 40% chance of rain I am not sure 80 will get here.

Hey you home lawn maintaince people, I have a question. I have a variety of weeds, they are chocking out my real grass. I have all sorts of clinging weed, clover like weed, dandylions, etc., so what poison can I spray on them to kill the weeds but keep the grass? I was going to put down Weed and Feed but it is way too late now. I can do that at the end of the summer for next year but like I said, too late for this year. [:(]

CW

I MUST eat fish every night. [:D] Unfortunately I don't get too. [:(]

I love it. Since I am a country boy I like it fried, but baked, or broiled is ok too.

And everyone [:)]

Jim, what I would do is contact a local Lawn Spray Business and have them come out and give it a once over with weed, and whatever else treatment they would think appropriate with it....If you don't care to have the regular treatments...generally 4 or 5 per season, {I use 4 treatments}, and that will bring it somewhat under control and perhaps you can find a product to maintain it yourself after that.....

It's my understanding that, as long as the weeds are actively growing, you can apply the weed and feed and expect it to do the job, so I wouldn't think that it's too late yet to use it. Up here in Iowa, it's still too early, although the lawn is really starting to take on a nice green look today.

Was outside enjoying a quiet moment Friday night when a mosquito joined me. Got the little sucker, but not until it got me.... I was really suprised to see one so soon - there's still snow to be found in isolated, shady spots.

Talk about your wasp/bees nests - a young couple discovered one in their attic. It was something like 7 feet high! The pros took care of that one. They were astounded, too. I think they were going to try to save the nest (sans occupants) for display at the local zoo.

Modelcar I agree Spring is here! Yesterday was the first day in a long while I was able to ride in my truck with all the window's open!!! I am a bit disappointed that the only snow storm Pennsylvania received this winter was the Big 18 incher, I was expecting a lot more snow than that. So I guess I'll just have to wait until next season to do some snowboarding. NOW.... I can concentrate on agressive inline skating. I might get some done tomorrow, in South Philly at the skate park.

What is this I here about some of the diner members meeting up in Rochelle this Sept or Aug????? I wish I could say that I'm in but, I don't have the money, plus I've got college to attend to. Goodness, I can't WAIT TO GET OUT!!!!! Actually, I can't wait to turn 21.

Best wishes to the folks at nance69. Sarah...Let's not incourage any more snow this season....with the pretty green stuff and next blossoms on the way....
Ok, CW....I'll not mention the yard mowing too loud...but with fertlizer, and warming temps and last night some rain....It's growing for sure and will require another run over it by Tuesday.
Sarah, you would have a ball on our 30 plus miles of trail {with your inline skates}, as it's on the former CSX railroad grade and of course not much grade to contend with...Smooth paved surfice...It's really great..!
And we hope Jim has been able to apply a good dose of that Wasp spray to the "entrance" of where they are getting under his siding....That is powerful stuff and I believe if he will continue to soak that area it will do the job.

If you are wondering, I haven't been around very much as I am waiting for Spring to arrive. I think it got stalled somewhere in the Northern part of Indiana. If it doesn't get moving soon, it may take until August to get here. Does keep the bug population down.

Speaking of August, that would be the right time for a picnic at the Roselle park.
