Chris, Those ice formations are like the ones deep in the Lava Beds caves up near the Oregon border.

I went spelunking up at the Lyman caves near Baker Nevada dureing Thanksgiving. I'll send you some pics tommarrow if I remember.


I am just now getting over a major railfan bummer that happened on that trip. I didn't post anything about it till now because just thinking about it made me mad. Anyway I went to visit my bro up in Ely,Nv over thanksgiving week. He is not a railfan but usually tolerates my addiction. Anyway the first couple day we went out exploreing abandon mine shafts. Thats no place for a camera so no pics from there. The next day we went and explored the old ghost town Oseola and then went and checked out the Lyman caves at the foot of Mt. Wheeler. This was a tour guide / group kind of thing (witch I don't like) so I took the camera. I got some good pictures that day. Then things went south. We had taken his girlfriends car and the next day they got into a fight and she took off with my camera. She had to go work at one of the mines and I actually had to stay an extra day to get it back when she came back to town. So then I was left with only my video camera. That I could have lived with. The next day the Nevada Northern was running two trips up to Ruth and back with the just re-built #93 and I had planned on doing some chaseing. That morning I charged up the camcorder and went tocue the tape to the right spot and it ate the tape. I fixed the tape and tried it again and it did the same thing. I went to Radio Shack and got a head cleaner and tried that. No luck. So we did some chaseing and that was cool but [censored] I wanted pictures. And they would have been great as it was a cold 15 degrees out that day and that makes for a much more dramatic show. I did get a few pics from around the shop the day I left but the whole camera situation was a real railfan bummer. But don't get me wrong It was a great trip otherwise as I had not seen my bro in over a year.

As far as IP addresses go, that's great except for national ISPs where multiple users can share the same IP address over the course of time. Blocking an IP isn't fool proof, unfortunately.

Yeah Chris, those ARE the ones;don't worry,there should be plenty around
for now....................I've fought that the entire last week and a half,several times

Boy, I hope so!

Speaking of the great weather (as somebody was), I was able to get out of the house at 5:30 this morning and bike to work, arriving well ahead of my 6:30 class (too dark for the scenic route!). We crammed an eight-hour class into about five hours' time, ignoring the luxuries like a lunch break, etc. So, in the good weather I was able to get the tires pumped up on my bike at the repair shop. Then I saw:

One commuter train as I locked my bike in the rack.
Two freights as I was getting my hair cut.
Three more freights and one more scoot as I was having lunch with Pat at our favorite Italian restaurant.
Two more freights and another scoot before I could get out of Elmhurst (the time between the first scoot and the third should have been one hour).
And two more freights in Lombard, as soon as I could get close to the tracks again.

And now, before I drop from sheer exhaustion, I have to check out all of these interesting freight cars I saw!

Well, the sore throat ballooned into a full blown sickness during work tonight, complete with headache, body aches, fever, etc, etc. I'm just going to heat up and eat the soup, crawl into my sweats and go to bed to try to beat this thing down before Monday.

okay I checked my email and found out the head chef is gone so for supper tonight we are going to make chilli and cornbread.we have 3 choices.mild, medium and 5 alarm fire.i'm glad cw stocked up on the onions and green peppers.this should help those with colds and stuffy noses.please help yourself to the fridge for leftovers at lunch. i'm going to clean the fridge and freezer out and take out the trash.

The weather roller coaster continues to roll out here. Cool day with snow up in the high country again. Today we're back in the 50's, and 63 is the forcast for Broncos Saturday. After that we could actually, gasp!, have a chance for some precip in town! My, what a novelty that would be.

Meanwhile, Mook, let me know what I can do to be of assisstance in the absence of our esteemed cook.

As Chris stated, the weather roller coaster is on again. Yesterday about 3 pm I had to put on my sweatshirt at work. About 8 pm I was outside and actually had to take it off. [:0] A line of thundershowers moved in about midnight with heavy rain and wind. Now the rain is stopped but the wind is very chilly. So the sweatshirt will be on this afternoon/evening at work. Our weather just continues to be crazy as time progresses. Some of you might have heard of a shortline called, Ashley, Drew & Northern. It ceased operation some years back. [:(] It basically served a paper mill down in a forestry area. Early this week, they had a forest fire in that area burning over 1,000 or 3,000 acres. I understand a few homes were also lost and some shop and sheds. [:(!] The worst thing about that fire was that it was intentionally set. This is one of Arkansas' dryest years since records began being kept. The rain last night should help some.
