Saw 6 engines work a train back and forth a couple hours ago. Last I saw of it, it backed west as far as I could see. Tried the other cam, but it didn't work. Well, at least this seems to be doing well {now}.
No , Jim , the van was towed before the camera went down . RON
Semper Vaporio........... Thanks for the Info........

Has anybody had the patience to count the number of cars in some of the long trains that run though the hotel camera scene. As slow as some of them go I just don't have an attention span long enough to count them (My daughter says it is because I am so poor that I can't even pay attention! )
Same here , i start to count and then give up . Last night`s snow sure went away fast . RON

As slow as some of them go I just don't have an attention span long enough to count them (My daughter says it is because I am so poor that I can't even pay attention! ) No, but I suspect the returning empties come close to 200 cars (given a fifty foot coal car that wold be near 10,000 fee)t. Some head west with seven locomotives on the head end but I think only a few of them would be online. NS also runs some pretty long coal drags eastbound toward Norfolk but I've yet to see distributed power on any of them. Makes me wonder if NS uses DP or if the line from Roanoke to Norfolk is flat enough they don't need that. Does anyone know if NS uses DP? I've not yet seen it if they do.

I haven`t seen any dp used in roanoke . They may use it somewhere else on the system . RON

(It was not a yard movement, it had a FRED. Also missed a EB of at least 16 autoboxes while I was typing the previous OS.)
....Just witnessed two {maybe more}, hi rail {trucks}, with flashing lights heading east on the far track. That's what I saw as I just tuned to the site.
I wonder....Is there another problem.....?
They all disappeared , so it must not have been too big a problem . RON
In the last couple of days, I have seen empty dump trucks headed east and full ones headed west in the parking lot. And 2 or 3 different catepillar tread "diggers" headed east in the AM and west in the PM in the same "race track"!
It seem there is something going on to the east of the hotel walkway.
But I think it is some sort of scheduled work, not due to a problem with a train -- too orderly and fewer MOW trucks parked everywhere!
If you view the VMT cam you can see one of the diggers parked on the north side of the tracks on the left. It went there by the hotel cam about an hour ago.
I have noticed all that equipment also . I agree with you , it is probably routine maintainence somewhere up the line . RON
Snowing again and starting to stick . Quite a bit of traffic tonight . RON
....Just checked the site for work activity, saw none. But did see a single power unit pulling about a dozen auto carriers east as I looked for a min. or two.
Been listening to the radio . A lot of activity going on in the yards to the west . RON
C & O 614 is going to arrive at VMT on feb. 12 . It will be displayed in front of 1218 . RON
Saw one of the cabeese go east late this AM, so I figured I'd wait until it came back like it usually does within an hour or so and get a screenshot of it on the VMT cam...
Waited 3 - 4 hours and almost missed it going by the hotel., but it stopped down near the pedestrian bridge, so I got the VMT cam on and ready... Waited another 15 minutes or more and just as it started to move again toward the VMT cam... the VMT cam shut down! When it started to work again the whole consist was gone.
This is the 3rd time this has happened! I am beginning to think the VMT cam as a "caboose detector" on it that shuts it down when the caboose is near!
The VMT cam is almost worthless . It keeps dropping off line and when it is online i can`t take the jerky stop action for very long . RON
