It appears this version of the Flatwheel Cafe is suffering an early demise and is being preempted by yet another version...although I am not sure why...see you all on the latest iteration of the cafe.

One thing about his unique voice and delivery - if you were scanning the dial in an unfamiliar place and ran across him, you always knew who you were listening to.

DeggestyOf course, when you travel in a civilized manner (by train), you may not have room to carry your own pillow(s). We both prefer a firm mattress.
Understand about that Johnny.....We frequent a Hampton Inn over in Pennsylvania area {our home grounds}, when we visit at least once a year and of course we've plenty of room in the car to carry these things.
One other item: We carry a small travel size Lysol disinfectant spray can with us to use on the door handles, TV control, telephone, etc.....in the Hotel room just for a little extra measure of safety.
And yes....really a firm mattress and likewise for the pillow suites me fine.
And we agree with the comments re: Bed spreads.....Pull it off the bed and put it down at the foot end. We stay at the same hotel each time to not be sampling many situations...and we happen to like this place.
Quentin
Quentin, when it comes to pillows: different folks, different strokes. Ricki likes a flat pillow, and will beat hers down before lying down; Mine is not flat, and I will fluff it up first. I sometimes tell her that I feel sorry for her pillow. When we go up to Snowbird for a week, we take her pillow with us. Of course, when you travel in a civilized manner (by train), you may not have room to carry your own pillow(s). We both prefer a firm mattress.
Paula, thanks for the supper. Ricki wishes that we would stay on one or the other time standard year-round. I say that there was one intelligent state legislature forty-three years ago. Of course, if we all observed time that is no more than one half hour out from local mean sun time, you and Quentin would be in the Central time zone. Get well! (And everybody else who has whatever-it-is, you get well, too!)
Johnny
Mookie, sounds like that gal's "an accident waiting to happen"!!
Thought I'd come in a little early and post our Saturday Night Pizza Fest menu:
1. Anchovie; 2. Canadian bacon; 3. Cheese w/extra cheese; 4. Goetta; 5. Hawaiian; 6. Pepperoni/mushroom; 7. Pepperoni/sausage; 8. Supreme; 9. Italian sausage calzones
Dessert tonight: yellow cake w/chocolate icing; chocolate pie; banana pudding; strawberry cheese cake.
I have sneezed so much in the last week, that now I have a scratchy, kind of sore throat. And Walt is the same way. According to the calendar, "Daylight 'Stupid' Time" begins 3/8/09, that is one week from tomorrow. Come, on spring!!!!!

We almost saw a "derailment" right in front of us - a gentleman in an SUV going with the green lite at an X crossing and a "woman" ON A CELL PHONE ran the red light and cut right in front of him. Good thing he was observant. She never stopped talking and never slowed down, either! AARRRRGHHHHH

car wash alert! It was about 10 above and what seemed like a 90 mph wind when we went to breakfast out on the prairie, so.... we must be going to have a 95 degree day within a week. Every warm day deserves a bitterly cold day and vice versa.
No trains today - it was too sloppy to get near tracks, so went shopping instead. Ugh. I hate to shop, but some things you really need to go into a store once in awhile.
I figured out how to avoid motel/hotel bedding - spend your vacation $$$ on your car or your furniture. Insures you never have to stay out of town!

piouslion1We do the same thing for the same reason. Besides I know the person that lst slept on that pillow.
In the mid-twenties here this morning, and when the sun came up over the Wsatch, it tried to shine in. It's almost high enough now so that I can open the living room curtains before I go out to walk and it will not shine in on Ricki's face as she watches televison while finishing her breakfast. Of course, eight days from now, we have to be up an hour earlier as we go back to what we call "daylight stupid time." I think of the man whose blanket was not long enough to cover him from head to toe, so he cut a foot off one end and sewed to the other, to make it longer. Why not just admit that some people really want to start work an hour earlier in the morning? To avoid the danger of heart attack and such, we ease into the hour ten minutes a day for six days. And, in the fall, we ease back ten minutes a day.
Modelcar pillow are really important for me to get good rest. I hate those soft sponge rubber pillow in motels....so often take our own with us when staying in one for a few days.

J.....Did you find Berne on the map.......?
And Thanks for the good wishes Tom....Still on all the meds. The decongestant will be finished later today, but still have roughly half of the antibiotics to go yet....

Roy - I have never had any serious health problems, but have found in my life experiences that you always want to have 4 very good items around you. A good chair, a good bed, a good pillow and good shoes.. 99% of all my aches and pains can be corrected with changing one of the above.
Most people with nagging backaches should look at their favorite chairs, first. If your posterior is lower than your knees, you put a strain on your muscles and the sciatica nerve. This happens when chairs get older and your posterier does too. Always wondered why my Grandmother put a fat pillow behind her back. Now I know. And don't favor one side. I have a tendency to sit leaning slightly left - leaning on the left arm. Both the chair and I had problems after a few years.
Neck/head - same thing. Check your pillow. And bed - well if you get up feeling like you have been in an all nite brawl -

Rain and about 50 here in Winston-Salem today with a winter mix tomorrow and Monday with temps in the 25 to 39 degree range. Looks like a sloppy week-end. Good day to stay inside and get rid of what remains of this cold of mine that wants to stay to long. Letting Lynda sleep in a bit and then out for breakfast (or brunch as the case may be).
In short typical for late winter here in the NC Piedmont. But hope is on the horizon with Spring start coming around in about two to three weeks.
Mookie, I hope that the chair is what you want < I like my Lazy-boy of now 25 years.
Everybody take care and stay well,
Tree: Did you get an offer on your NY weather yet?
It is sunny, 8 and looks like about 4 inches of white all over our squirrels.
Driver out doing drive/squirrel walk with snowblower. He is anxious to get out and do something fun today (Walmart, breakfast out, bookstore - not sure we can get close to trains; do that tomorrow.)
Mutt - it came with covers for the arm, so my ever present cough drop can be hidden under there!
Cheer up people - next week promises a warm up and I will make sure I shove it east.
Mooks
Woke up this morning and found out we had no temperature at all - zero.
The home weather station says it got down to -2F. That means a fifty degree change from yesterday afternoon to this morning.
A nice hot breakfast will be good. Then I have to go help a neighboring fire department set up a mail relay that will send dispatch information out to cell phones...
CW , nice to see the ( cafe ) back open agin. For me, the Diner will always be remembered in my mind .It will have the trackside front window of (4 over 6 panes) with the lower left pane cracked from the vibration of a long ago Y6b passing and hittin' the diamond. I hope the top row is still steamed up . It took a while to find this page . This puter has a case of distemper, ( can't send or recieve e mail.) Must call the white shirts & black tie geeks ---- OOPS AH , guys. Respectfully, Cannonball

Howdy and good mornin. Thanks for the breakfast, Paula. It hit the spot. At present, 54 degrees and rain and thunder for the next two days. The weather boffins say we may even get a snifter of snow tomorrow night. Jen, we had a La-Z-Boy East plant here until about 5 years ago. It was situated between Seaboard Air Line on the north, and Atlantic Coast Line on the south. SAL was abandoned in 1968 and the ACL line is now SC Central. I noticed the other day that the spur from the south has finally been taken up and the switch is gone. Funny thing tho, they left the rails in the street. Originally, the site was a large sawmill, which had its own steam locomotives and log cars. They logged in the Santee River Swamp, about 45 miles away and pulled in on trackage rights on the ACL Charleston run(now the A Line). My, how times have changed, and not necessarily for the better.Paula, Quentin, Jen and others what's ailing, I hope yall get over the miseries quick. Yall take care and enjoy the weekend.
Good Saturday morning everyone. Quentin and others, hope you're soon well! Guess I may call the doctor next week, if I'm not any better. Staying stuffed up , and sneezing up a storm. Don't seem to have an elevated temp, so that's one good thing.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready. On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausages, scrambled eggs, and your choice of pancakes or waffles (waffles are cinnamon flavored). Plenty of 100% pure maple syrup to go on the pancakes, waffles, too.
Everyone have a very good day, stay dry, warm, and take care.
locomutt Quentin, Mook and others, seems this "Crud" is attempting to work on all of us, be very glad not to even have to think about it. (for awhile)

Whatever it is Walt, it's nasty stuff......As you can see I'm up "early" this morning...just had to get something hot in my throat and of course take medicine. Good Jean brought home about 4 boxes of kleenix from the store yesterday.....
Wishing for a "Tongue-in-cheek" similey;
This isn't the same "Smith Brothers" that make,
sell cough drops are they?
If so, there should be plenty in the arm rests!
MookieOur new chair is from Smith Brothers of Berne IN....where is Berne?
J.....pull out your map and check about 35 - 40 miles northeast from Muncie. They are known for furniture.
Edit: And you can enter Smith Brothers Furniture, Berne, In., and pull up their web site.....Very nice looking recliners.
MookieQ - I think you must have gotten a virus
Could be J......So far, it's just about getting the best of me. Sure hope the antibiotics soon begin to overpower {whatever it is}.....! Have antibiotics to take for 10 days.
It was on the Grand Rapids & Indiana, 58.8 miles above Richmond. Now, it's on no railraod; the PC abandoned the track from Richmond to Decatur.
High twenties, with light snow this morning and no noticeable wind--almost decent walking weather. Such snow as did stick to the concrete was gone before noon.
Snow in Virginia? Of course! even in the southern part. Many years ago, Ricki's first husband's brother and their cousin lived next door to one another in one of the Washington Virginia suburbs. One day, as they were shoveling snow, the brother remarked to the cousin, "When I retire, I'm going to move to Hawaii." He did.
One perk of age (and retirement) is not having to scrape ice off the windows about seven in the morning. I d o not miss that chore at all.
All who still sniffle and such, get well. soon.
Tree - time to relocate further south and west. You would thrive here - you are used to really awful weather, so rain to ice shouldn't even be a consideration for you. Truly - our weather (even tho it is snowing right now) has been decent this winter. And since I found out that Virginia area gets snow and cold, you could pretend we are the almost south!
Q - I think you must have gotten a virus. Ours was just sneezing and trying not to let it turn into sinus infection (I talked to Willy and he has a doozy of one!) Ah - age hath its perks - well, for some of us.
Our new chair is from Smith Brothers of Berne IN....where is Berne?
locomuttSince it is the old Lazy-Boy Big Man's chair, we will need a surgeon for the poor two guys that need to get it out of the house and on their truck to cart it away
J....La z Boy's have been good ones for us...Had 5, now just 4....sold one. Too many for the space. We have two that are similar to Danish designs with the round wood bottom base and separate foot rest....{Foot rest has round wood base too..}. These two are our TV watching units. Really comfortable. Leather covered. Have one in the office here too....That one gets used for afternoon naps....Mine.
MookieQ - are you feeling a little better? Driver & I are both much better. Only cough once in awhile - kind of a dry cof
No J, I'm still fighting this crap.....and it's putting up a real good fight. Don't believe I've turned the corner yet.....Maybe tomorrow....I hope. Nasty stuff.
For Sale - Northern New York weather. Best Offer.
Half inch of rain today - high was 48F.
Then, between 6pm and 7pm, the temperature dropped from 41F to 26F. Wanna guess what that did to the roads?
One large hill near me is now closed off after numerous cars (including one sheriff's car) went off the road, several rolling over in the process.
But, spring is on the way...
MMM - decisions, decisions - yellow cake/choco or carmel....might have to sample both....I really do like yellow cake - next to chocolate or even near it.
Mutt - it is from the early 80's Chair was delivered. Two young men hefted the old one up and carried it out to the street to put it on the truck. I had trouble just moving it across the living room closer to the door. New one is very comfy, tho!
BC/Mutt - I just realized that the heading had changed. I wasn't even aware of it, since I never look at the title line. I always go straight for the note.
Q - are you feeling a little better? Driver & I are both much better. Only cough once in awhile - kind of a dry cof....

That is why I am letting them take it now. Driver and I would have to have rope and tackle and lo-boy to get it out to the curb and then another surgeon for the garbage man. I want to keep it longer, but common sense tells me to get it out now! And when common sense talks...you best listen. Sun trying to come out - maybe not such a bad day after all. After dark is when it will stink!

Ummm, if we ever have to replace CW's recliner, it probably will take a total
rearranging of the living room....
first floor, shouldn't need block and tackle though.

I see that somebody is trying to rename this place; it's hard enough to

Bailed out of work early - of course, I was there over 4 hours early. Just as well - if we get the wind they've forecast I'll be out chasing trees and wires down.
Up to 47 right now - that wind will make short work of a lot of the snow that's left. Probably flood a couple of basements, too....
Got some chili for those dogs?
Here in Louisville, when I went to the grocery this morning, the temp was down in the mid 40s, probably about 46 degrees, and the breeze was quite strong. Made me wish I had taken my gloves with me, standing over at the bus stop!
Following is the menu for the rest of the day: For Dan, hot dogs and a couple of flamethrowers
For the rest of us: Cod, perch, salmon patties, rolled breaded oysters, scallops, Talapia, haddock, halibut, flounder; fries, hush puppies, breaded fried mushrooms, mac & cheese, baked beans, corn on the cob, cole slaw.
Desserts: apple, blueberry, cherry and peach cobblers; chocolate pie and pecan pie; chocolate cake w/white icing, yellow cake w/chocolate icing, yellow cake w/caramel icing
Everyone have a great afternoon, stay warm, keep safe and take care!

he was wearing a scarf!
Mook, any plans for a Memorial Service for the "Old Recliner"?
Do you at least need "Taps" played for it?
MookieI petitioned Congress to repeal winter, due to lack of interest. All I got was a busy signal. And now they are predicting 2-4" snow for our area
J....you better not fool with Mother Nature....That little snow will just be a warning.
We got an inch and a half of frozen slush underneath the 3" of snow we got. Mook, I think I want a flamethrower for lunch. It'll make quick work of that slush...and hot dogs!
Dan

And today is the day my old, old recliner leaves to make room for the new chair. I am heartbroken, along with a sore posterior, backache and numb nerves from sitting in that old lopsided wreck - but it was still great for napping - you just didn't sleep too long in it. It took up 1/2 of our postage stamp living room, so we will gain some space with the new wingback, but ....
A dark (literally) day in the Mookie household.
What's for lunch?
The large line of weather that slid across Indiana {at an angle}, did so during the night and didn't seem to cause much trouble....here. Thankfully.
I've been fighting dry throat and uncontrollable coughing, aches and all the rest for a few days now. From the family Dr., we have 10 days worth of antibiotics and decongestant meds....Just maybe, as the day rolls on I might {might}, feel like we're turning the corner...Not sure yet. Not fun.
33 degrees...compared to upper 40's late last night. Wind chill now 23. Wind, but dry. Better weather on the way late in weekend and beginning next week. Seeing Robins consistently now....Could be mowing the yard in one month...This season, I want to get a roller to pull behind my tractor and do a job on the yard before the mowing starts. Getting rough especially from the dry spell we had 2 seasons ago. And it hasn't been done for years.
Barbara & I had to make a trip to Galesburg Thurs PM. We hit the brunt of the storm. Minor flooding on IL17. We came back a different way.
Say Paula. Have you ever made Brunswick Stew?
Jim, you're lucky. We were in the rain belt, too (Lombard was singled out in the flood warning last night). I'm home from work today because our anti-flooding precautions were too little (and too late) for this storm. I'm taking a break now until Pat goes to work, then it's back down with a mop. No major losses, thankfully. We, too, could have gotten two inches or more (I guess it was an inch and a half at O'Hare).
The temperature dropped below freezing last night, and we got a very light dusting of snow. Wind is now hard out of the north, and the temperature should be falling through the day (that's a sure sign that it's still winter--these "upside-down" days just don't happen with the summer weather systems).
This should be my 7500th post. Must be time to get back to work!
good morning
the wind is turning to come out of the northwest.colder air coming for this weekend.matt is on time and off to school.going to take a nap then will help unload the groceries when mamma gets home.
Rain???? Yes indeed, we got about two inches of rain here in Aurora last evening and it ended at about 9:00 p.m. after which it was all about draining it away. Out basement sump pump really got quite a workout last night and is still running hard to keep the basement dry. Darned good thing that rain wasn't snow....wheewww, it would have been about 20 INCHES!!!!!
Good Friday morning, everyone. Larry, thanks so much for fixing breakfast this morning!
Except for about a half hour, I've been awake since 2:57, when it started lightning, then the thunder started, along with winds blowing at about 50, 60 mph. The whole system as blown out of our area, and is in the central eastern part of the Commonwealth now.
For some strange reason, I cannot get my homepage to come up this morning. It keeps timing out, reason given: "ISP taking too long to respond". At least trains.com is listed in the pulldown address bar, so I could get in the door here.
Everyone have a good morning, and once again, Larry, thank you for fixing breakfast this morning!!
SG - Know the feeling. The old 'fridges at my aunt's cottage (actually two cottages) were there for years!
Watch the door when you come in - we're expecting high winds all day. I've gotta hang around anyhow, so I'll get started on the usual breakfast this morning.
Good evening everyone. Sorry I haven't been here for some time but I'm busy at work and also the refrigerator at my house went kaput. That meant US$1,400 out the door to get a replacement refrigerator; mind you, the old refrigerator has been in reliable service for our family for over 35 years!
Paula, thanks for the breakfast of grits and sausage.
Carl, I was going to ask Paula if that was a forty-footer, a fifty-three-footer, or a twenty-five foot pup.
‘Twas a pleasant day here–in the low thirties early in the morning, with little wind (that made for pleasant walking), up into the fifties by afternoon, and an occasional sprinkle of rain. Snow is expected in the mountains tonight.
Mookie, Ricki and I have at last gotten a new mattress after about thirty years. Friday, we contracted for one to be delivered Tuesday, and yesterday morning Ricki said that it was more comfortable than the old one, but it is too far off the floor; it seems that the manufacturers of inner-spring mattresses now use much taller springs than they used to since the taller springs last longer. We had not bought a new box spring since the old one was not worn out, but we then ordered a low-boy box spring (lower than our old one) which was brought out today–and the new combination is only about an inch higher than the old. I like being able to put my feet on the floor when I sit on the edge of the bed.
CShaveRRPaula sez it's "a semi slow day in here"--was that a pun?
No Carl, it wasn't meant as a pun. Just a statement. But with all the semi truck talk around here, I'll admit it could have been taken as a pun!
Well matt and I watched the semis on 24 while waiting for the maw to crawl along with their train of boxcars.rain has arrived in nw ohio.Cw thanks for supper.time to get things around for friday.
Morning all! Another Beautiful day here, Almost 40 degrees and calm. Too bad I am stuck in classes all day. Spring fever is definitely starting to set in.
Johnny - Remember that truck wreck up in North Salt Lake last June where the trucker dropped that huge tank in the interstate and it caused a 6 hour traffic jam? I had an opportunity to meet that trucker about a month later, and he has got to be the worst driver I have ever seen. There were 2 of those vessels coming to my job site, and then 2 more that were even bigger and heavier. I am glad that the heavy haul outfit out of Casper was hired move the other 2 vessels. That whole wreck was pretty funny though, the news stations were calling it an underground water storage tank. Not sure why we built concrete piers to hold it up 10 feet off the ground then!!

Looks like a semi slow day in here. Everybody must be like me: feel like you'd rather go back to bed and sleep some more. Nice day for it, with the rain. Humidity is going up, getting ready for that heavier rain system coming in later tonight. Nice and muggy outside.
The meal for this afternoon and evening: sloppy joes, fries, BLTs, grilled cheese, ham & cheese sandwiches, Philly steak & cheese hoagies, and there's vegetable beef soup, cream of broccoli soup, and beef stew.
Everyone have a good afternoon, and take care.
Johnny, Randy & others -
I've had the privilege of working with some guys who really knew how to handle a rig - especially into and on a construction site, such as backing down a railroad track well in a building - and a few who didn't. Most of the good ones learned it on the farm. But most OTR drivers that I see now in this area - mainly 53 ft. reefers - are scary. It seems like they just got their CDL's and have barely learned how to go forward - only - on the Interstates (mainly).
The simple test that I use to tell them apart - not the men from the boys, but maybe the beginners from those who have a clue, so to speak - around here is to watch them making at right-turn at a local intersection. It's around a 100-degree angle - a little more than a square 90 - from a 3-lane "collector" road here (1 lane each way plus center left-turn stacking lane) onto a 5-lane arterial (2 lanes each way plus left-turn lane with a concrete mountable median). The trick is that the traffic signal pole is - of course - right there at the curb radius. Often the tractor goes onto the median, and the trailer tires go up on that curb. Occasionally the trailer rubs the traffic signal mast arm, or there's a low-speed collision with another turning vehicle. Once every couple of years the traffic signal pole gets taken out. But the good ones move left as they go across as far as they can, and then make their "cut" to the right. It takes a little longer (it only seems) to get set up and a lot more effort at the wheel, but it's a thing of beauty to see when done right.
Safe trip, Randy.
- Paul North.
A little snow early this AM, but decent now. Looking at 40's in the next couple of days.
Early day tomorrow. Have to be at work at 3AM for some maintenance. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
matt is on time for school although it is foggy outside.some area schools have 2 hr delays.rain this afternoon then cooler.Time for a nap then we have errands to do in town.Cw thanks for breakfast.tonight will be friday.
Good morning, Paula, and thanks for breakfast. At present, it is sunrise in Carolina, 43 degres and fair, with a projected high in the 60s. The weather has turned off nice, and I wonder what it's up to. I think I will walk the bar and gather meself in a corner with a morning paper and some of the goodies. Everybody stay safe.
Good Thursday morning ,everyone. Very pleasant here this morning, with temps in the mid 50s. Supposed to have a high in the mid to upper 60s before the next cold front comes in later tonight. We're getting very light rain right now; but, later on, especially tonight, may have a slight risk of severe weather, with the thunderstorms coming in. Probably happen around 2, 3 a.m. in the morning.
Coffee, juices, hot water for tea are ready. Also have chocolate milk, and strawberry milk.
On the warmer bar this morning: turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, grits, oatmeal, and toast.
Everyone have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, keep safe and take care.
Yes, Randy, I have heard of those places that you need two or three shoehorns to get into. My experience has been directing drivers back to docks. Some had it, others did not. One of our docks had a square-cut apron on the leveler, and it was right next to a dumpster. I tried to keep the maximum clearance possible between the dumpster and the dock (push the dumpster over with a forklift). Usually, it took several tries for the driver to get set right so that I would not cut a piece out of his trailer with the corner of the apron (I did that once, when I thought he was set right). To complicate the maneuvering, there was hydrant out in the yard, with posts around it. Most drivers saw that it was easier if they went around it clockwise; one or two could make it counter-clockwise, but most had to go back, turn around, and come back if they tried it that way. Most of our loads in 53 footers came in in the morning, and the driver would be waiting for me in the driveway when I came to work. I would tell him which dock to go to, stop at Security on my way in to say it was all right to let the rig in, go to my desk for my clipboard, and go to the dock. Once in a great while, the trailer would be spotted just right by the time I got out to the dock. One afternoon, a load came in just as I was ready to go home. The driver apparently had had little experience, for it took him more than half an hour to get to the dock. The local drivers, with their forty footers, had no problems.
Watch out for the crazy people on the highway.
tree68Randy - I take it you had a pickup down toward NYC or in Binghampton - Kanona isn't exactly on the beaten path between Boston and points west.

Actually, Larry, Picked up in Saratoga Springs, company frowns on using too much of the thruway unless we are picking up or dropping off near it, even though its a touch longer and with more hills running 86 and 88. Traffic is a lot lighter, though. I don't complain, they pay for the diesel.
Johnny, you would not believe some places I have bent this rig into, a lot of customer's docks were built in the age of cabover tractors and 35' trailers, I am about 70 feet or so from front bumper to ICC bar on trailer.
I did not care too much for the Boston area, don't like the idea of using the right shoulder as an extra lane during rush hour, it's unnerving when you're tooling along at the limit and someone shoots by you on the right hand side like you're standing still.

Since we were so slow this afternoon, I've made extra of today's lunch menu for supper/dinner tonight. Along with making more yellow cornbread to go with both the soups and stews.
According to the latest weather report, we got up to anywhere between 56 and 60, depending on the area you live in. Now, we are 'waiting' for rain to come in from the west. It will probably come in sometime around midnight or after. They say we may even have a few thunderstorm showers in the morning.
Everyone enjoy your meal, have a good evening, keep yourselves safe and take care.
I can't speak about boston traffic but NYC traffic is crazy.Matt and I ran some errands and sent a package for a birthday boy in Pennsylvania.Jay Horsfall(noras oldest) has a birthday on saturday.Cw thanks for supper.time to get cleaned up for work tonight.
Randy, Ricki and I agree that Boston is a dangerous place to drive even a car (and people say that Salt Lake City is dangerous). Several years ago, we rented a car in Boston, drove to Cape Cod and then up to Hollis, N. H. We had planned to drive back to Boston in time to take a mid-morning train down to the Big Apple, but after our experience in getting out of Boston after people had finished their morning "drive time" (as it is called by some out here), we turned the car in in Nashua and rode a bus to Beantown (right to South Station). Among other thngs, it's a bit unnerving when pedestrians step off the curb in the middle of the block and start to cross the street without regard for street traffic.
You don't need forty acres to turn your rig around, do you?
Randy, glad you got a chance to drop in. Hope you make your 10/20 base safe & sound.
Since I don't see any meal suggestions for today, here is what I've come up with.
You all enjoy lunch, while I consider what to do for tonight's menu choices.
Randy - my introduction to Boston drivers was in the backseat of my brother-in-law's car - we were visiting that entire side of the family. He was a Boston cabdriver. Never quite got over that experience!
At least you dodged the lake effect we've had recently.
Nice day here - a tad cool but at least the sun is shining.
Boy, one goes away for a few weeks and everyone moves again, oh well, such is //WHAM!!//
//Staggers back up, looks around//
Oomph, did anyone get the plate off of that Boston driver?
Anyway, killing time waiting for my 10 hour rest period to end, then hitailing it back to Wisconsin to unload and take a weekend off. Was out in the Boston area yesterday, do not care for those drivers, is very unnerving when they come flying up on the shoulder.
See everyone later, should be checking in on the weekend, helping move my sisters back home, they decided to terminate their lease, and the place they were looking at doesen't have openings until summer.

Miss Paula:
By some chance would you have a bit of that wonderful chicken stew and yellow cornbread around. Seems that my head cold responds to nothing better.
Hopefully back to work tomorrow,
Clear and not as cold here in W-S, Might get up into the 60's tomorrow.
Wake up, wake up, the sun is on the rise,
And it's time...it's time...it's time to fertilize!
Increase the yield from your field, watch your profits swell,
You never lose when you choose Smith-Douglass fertilizer--with "Trell"!
Imagine that being sung over the radio every morning (except Sunday, of course--this was western Michigan!) by a couple of guys that sounded like they were dragged off the farm for that very purpose. I think the accompaniment was a guitar or two.
One of the things I left behind when I moved to the city, thankfully.
It's supposed to hit 40 here today; chance of rain today, thunderstorms tomorrow. Last week's snow will disappear. Still no robins, though.
Good Wednesday morning and Happy Ash Wednesday to you all.
Our temps this morning are in the mid 30s, going to a high into the mid 50s this afternoon. Unfortunately, supposed to see some rain sometime tomorrow, with a cold front that is coming into the area.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, turkey bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, hash browns, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy, oatmeal, grits and toast.
You all have a good morning, enjoy your breakfast, and if any of you have any meal requests for today, now's the time to speak up and let me know.
We've been seeing the annual advertisments now of all kinds of fertilizer for the farm crops upcoming so when we see them on TV, Spring can't be far behind......And saw more Robins in our back yard again this morning....
To be in the 50's next few days.
I like a well dressed dog - but I don't care for regular yellow mustard. Maybe some good brown or hot Dijon....
Nice out, if cold. Just discovered that my low temp this morning was minus 7. I missed that minus on the digital thermometer and thought it was 7 above. Silly me.
Reports of upwards of 4 feet of snow to the south of me from that latest lake effect event. Haven't talked to my daughter in Syracuse, but first hand reports indicate a foot + there.
Of course, I just signed up to work the Easter Bunny trains, so spring must be on it's way!

Must be molting season for dust mites! These are true allergies, and since nothing is growing, we have no pets and it can't be a dusty house.....well, maybe just a little....I am going to blame it on the warm dust we get from Kansas! That's it!
Ketchup - like it only on fries and pot roast. Otherwise, don't use the stuff.
Corned beef and cabbage for supper then back in diner/cafe for late pie, maybe cake and milk before bed! Yum!
Good morning and afternoon to all. Paula, thanks for the sausage and grits.
As to pancakes, Ricki will take pecan pancakes, if you have pecans. I like plain pancakes, spread with butter and almost awash in syrup. Maple syrup, of course.
As to catchup on the table, who can explain everyone's taste? One of my brothers would ask the waiter/waitress if he wanted steak sauce for his steak, "Is there something wrong with the steak?," not adding "and ou need to hide the bad taste?" There is something wrong with my keyboard; I keep having to go back and correct its mistakes. And you have seen people put lots of salt on their food before they have even tasted it.
In college, I learned about honey and margarine (we were not given butter) on hot cornbread, catchup on french fries--but freshly fried, freshly cut, potatoes do not need anything. The cafe where I often ate before I married ran out of the frozen french fries one day. The proprietess cut a potato up and fried it for me--and she did the same when I asked for french fries after that.
CShaveRRNow, can somebody explain why a pseudo-Italian restaurant, serving pizza, pasta, salads, and Italian-style sandwiches would have a bottle of ketchup alongside the grated Parmesan cheese at every table?
Recall that the late Jackie O used to infuriate the great chefs by dousing their creations in ketchup....
Carl, have no idea to the answer for your question. It does sound a little bit odd, that a pizza restaurant would have bottles of ketchup on the table, though! I admit, I eat some combinations that are odd to anyone else, but I'd never consider putting ketchup on anything at a place like that, not even on a hamburger pizza.
Our Tuesday Mexican Fiesta is now under way:
tacos, burritos, spanish rice, chimichangas, fajitas, black bean & rice tostadas, enchiladas, south of the border snapper, gazpacho w/shrimp, chipotle tomato soup, cheesy beef nachos
We didn't get much at Produce today: potatoes, yellow sweet peppers and little 4 oz. containers of orange juice. And we only had about 35 people show up.
We're supposed to warm up to the mid 40s this afternoon, may see 46 for a high here.
Everyone enjoy your meal, have a good afternoon, keep safe and take care.
Larry, I vaguely remember the smiley-face from the time we visited Johnny Rocket's, and wouldn't mind going again sometime soon. Granddaughter Emily had apparently been looking forward to the smiley-face, too; I guess she wasn't consulted when her sister asked for the Italian place instead.
Now, can somebody explain why a pseudo-Italian restaurant, serving pizza, pasta, salads, and Italian-style sandwiches would have a bottle of ketchup alongside the grated Parmesan cheese at every table?
Pancakes sound good, especially with some real maple syrup (almost that season here!). Blueberry pancakes would be even better!
Carl - I like Johnny Rockets - good old hamburgers and a smiley face in the ketchup tray.
No snow for today, but the temps will be all over the place for the rest of the week and we'll see both rain and snow. I'll take rain, I'll take snow, but I hate getting both on the same day....
happy fat tuesday.its also international pancake day.so what do we have first the punchkies or the pancakes?? matt is on time and on the bus.here are some tissues for in the diner.
Good Tuesday morning, everyone. Went to bed early last night: wore myself out yesterday, what with all the baking, and everything else done. I was out about as soon as my head touched the pillow. Hope everyone is beginning to see a little bit of improvement, as far as sniffles, sneezes, etc., are concerned. My nose is stuffed up this morning. (And no, I haven't stuffed anything up in my nose, either!)
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate, hot cider, and hot water for tea are ready.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, oatmeal, grits, cream of wheat, toast, turkey bacon, sausage, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy and western omelettes.
Looked out the front window a few minutes ago, and so far, no one has shown up to wait for the Produce truck. I normally already have about four, five vehicles sitting out front.
Everyone enjoy your breakfast, have a good morning, and I'll see you all later, after Tuesday Produce is over.
One of my granddaughters asked Pat if we could go somewhere else, so we didn't go to Johnny Rocket's, after all. Both granddaughters were asking us riddles that made no sense, and were laughing hysterically at the responses--the funniest thing about this was their brother (8 months) laughing at, or with, them!
SJ, you have my sympathy--both of you. You're apparently not alone--Emily has chapped areas all around her mouth, and Katelyn is puffy under the eyes (allergies?). We go through the tissues at an astounding rate here, thanks to someone always having something in season.
We have a force to be reckoned with here. Katelyn informed us, her grandparents, that she's growing up fast, and soon she'll be five (she hasn't been four for two months yet). "And what can you do when you're five?" Pat asked her. Katelyn's response: "Drive?" The look on our daughter's face: priceless! I was told that her interest in maps is no accident: she follows the GPS in their car with interest, and has no problem identifying streets, or water...or railroad tracks!
Johnny, my new computer likes to insert or omit letters, too. Fortunately, everything on the screen gets spell-checked, so others don't get much chance to see what comes out initially.
Thanks, Carl, for tracking that "n" down and putting it to use.(8:24 am MT today) Did it give you a hard chase? It simply got away from me before I posted my comment. Sometimes, even when I compose a post on Word Perfect, a letter will get away, or an unwanted one will insert itself. Business must have been booming thirty-eight years ago; it certainly did not take long for you get off the extra board.
Mookie, Do you and Driver need another box or two of tissues? I’ll send some over if you do (I have found that toilet tissue also works). Both of you, get well soon.
It was about forty-two degrees when I set out for my morning walk today–quite a change from the past few weeks. A cloud cover last night held the heat in.
I hope I am done with dentist visits, except for cleaning, for a long time now. Last week, I had a tooth added to a partial (made necessary because an olive that I did not see in a forkful of salad had a difference of opinion with a tooth as to which was stronger; my tooth lost) that I started using about a year and a half ago–and went in for a tuneup on it this morning. Aside from the hidden olive, it was a good salad served on VIA’s Ocean.
cherokee womanEveryone take care this afternoon, especially those of you who are coughing, sneezing and contending with drippy noses, whether it's allergy, sinus or due to a winter cold.
And remember - hay fever season is just around the corner....
Lots of snow to the south of us, but we're just getting occasional flurries. Several schools in the snow belt closed today, others are curtailing evening activities.
That soup does sound, good, though.
For those of you who are 'under the weather' with colds and allergies (seems to be hitting us a little bit early this year, doesn't it?), you'll find a big ole pot of vegetable beef soup on the warmer bar, along with leftover lasagna and Italian spaghetti, and corn bread, Italian bread and garlic bread sticks.
I've been in the kitchen all morning, fixing the pot of soup, and I've also done some other baking, other than the three kinds of bread listed above: there's fresh sugar cookies, straight out of the oven for dessert today, along with a couple more German chocolate cake, chocolate cake, and all the other cakes, pies and cobblers that are on the normal menu.
Everyone take care this afternoon, especially those of you who are coughing, sneezing and contending with drippy noses, whether it's allergy, sinus or due to a winter cold.

Sunshine still very bright and we're just up to {wow}, 20 degrees....
Achoo....

We are sharing a tissue box!
DeggestyCarl, were you paid overtime rate and holiday pay for that day? When I was working a forty hour week, if we had to work on a statutory holiday, that was the rate. Of course, the company did not ask (or tell) anyone to work thus unless it was felt absolutely necessary. Johnny

Hey, Johnnny (you left an "n" out of your name a while back so I stuck it in here),
Technically, I wasn't an employee yet that day, so they just paid us the straight-time minimum wage. However, by the next paid holiday (Memorial Day at that time--we now get Good Friday, too), I was off the extra board and on a job. To be earning over ten bucks an hour in 1971 was really something!
We don't have optional holidays--if you're on a job that's scheduled to work, you either work, or you lay off (and good luck with that!). In fact, if you don't work your assigned day before and after the holiday, you lose the eight hours' straight-time holiday pay. If you work the holiday, you get overtime in addition to the holiday pay, so a worked holiday pays 2.5 times the normal rate of pay.
Speaking of Johnny, Pat and I get to meet three lovely ladies and a cute little guy for lunch at Johnny Rocket's this noon. It's a neat little place, done up (both in decor and cuisine, but not prices) like a 1950s drive-in.
Bright sunshine with clear skies but cold this morning.....Was 15 when I first looked and now way up to 17. But with no snow activity it makes it so much easier to take.
Good morning railfans! I am on my way to Milwaukee for a daylong meeting today and then on to Stevens Point, WI where I will make my trip HQ for the week. Other than Stevens Point, I will be traveling to Wausau, Wautoma and Madison areas and hope to see some U.P., Wisconsin Southern and CP/CN traffic while in the Badger State. Hope you all have a safe, profitable, healthy and enjoyable week ahead!
morning
a balmy 7 degrees to start this morning.the cardinals were calling me to the feeder this morning.matt is on time and on the bus.thanks for the hot breakfast Cw.hope the kitten has her mittens on today.
Good Monday morning, everyone. I hope everyone had a good weekend. This morning, at 5:54 a.m., we have a temp of 20 degrees, with a wind chill in the mid to upper teens. The temp is supposed to get to about 36 for our high today. But, we're also supposed to have plenty of sunshine today. We'll see.
I remember, when I first started at the bank, that we got Washington's birthday off. And the same when I worked at the University, which was before I was hired at the bank. Back then, you celebrated Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays separately.
Coffee, juices, hot chocolate and hot water for tea are ready. Mooks, your coffee mug is on the counter, ready for your coffee to be poured when you get in!
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, muffins, turkey bacon, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs, homemade buttermilk biscuits w/sausage gravy.
I hope everyone has a very good morning, stay safe out there, wherever your go today, and take care.
Happy Birthday, George! Thank you for keeping your army together during that horrible winter at Valley Forge, for leading them to victory, and for presiding over the Constitutional Convention.
Larry, I agree that it is much more pleasant to relax in a recliner, hold the newspaper and read it--and go back again when it is necessary--than it is to watch as the news flits across the screen.
A gray day here, starting in the thirties and getting up into the forties. No more snow expected.
Johny
Not sure what our current temp is; right now, the sky is cloudy; we have had some sunshine today, w/a few ocassional flurries.
I guess we'll make this afternoon and tonight Italian Night. I've got some lasagna and Italian spaghetti on the warmer bar. There's also Italian bread and garlic bread sticks.
Everyone have a good afternoon (what's left of it in the eastern part of the USofA) and a good evening. Joe, have a container fixed for you for work tonight: with some lasagna and Italian spaghetti. Equal amounts of both in the container; but I'll let you decide whether you want Italian bread or garlic bread sticks to go with it.
sunshine and snowflurries at times.saw the y 150 was out and about this morning and we also saw the 110(ups train).the 508 was also stopped in the yard.might have been yesterdays 508 its hard to tell.cw thanks for dinner.time for some chores at home then back to work tonight.
Mild. Snow overnight - an inch or two. I'll have to push that off the driveway. No sun, though.
Got some stuff I should get done today. But not until after I go to the store and get the Sunday paper. Some people tout the instant availability of the news on-line, but there's something to be said for sitting in the recliner, perusing the paper, maybe with a cup of something hot at hand.
20 degrees and sun is rising. very light snow flurries floating around.
Not sure if it will be cloudy or partly cloudy.
Good Sunday morning, everyone. We're starting out at 24 degrees this morning, supposed to make it up to freezing today, which means temp's not going too far up the scale.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls made with real cinnabon cinnamon, and muffins (blueberry, strawberry, chocolate, oatbran).
Woke up just after 5 this morning, but seem to be moving very slowly this morning. At least the rain, sleet and snow are all gone from the area. Everyone have a good morning, be safe, those of you going to Church services this morning, and all of you take care.
Thanks, Quentin and Mutt. I don't think I need worry about my face breaking out at my age. I confess that I do not eat as much as I did my first year in college, when I was working twelve hours a week on the building and ground crew. I did not gain any weight, but I may have rearranged some. Now, if I am not careful, I grow a spare tire. One night, after supper, the girl who waited the table at which I ate for lunch and supper (we did call it dinner) asked me if my father had been a millionaire. She apparently liked to see me eat, for she would bring me an second, larger, dessert if such was available. There were six or eight other students who sat at that table regularly; they appreciated her service (and the company at table). There may have been regulars at other waiters'/waitresses' tables, but I really did not notice. I have been unable to determine if any students work for the college now, but back then a large proportion of the boarding students, especially, had workships; it helped with finances--even at fifty or sixty cents an hour ($100.00 per semester). And, the food service is strictly cafeteria style now.
CShaveRR Hmm...got that one, did you, SJ? Yesterday was a light day at work, and something got me started on anagrams. Among my fellow CROs are "Nine Naked Jars", "A Slush River", "Near Savage", "Run, Raw Stoner", "No, not squat award!", and "An Evading Stout". I can't do one for myself, though. And, since you brought up my imagination, guess who "Risen Jest" might be?

Sounds like lots of good food this evening for diner patrons......and Johnny, just go ahead and have both.....They're good for you....for a while.

You won't let me have both cake and a sundae? I don't need a whole cake, just a decent-sized slice.

Q - you must excuse Carl - he has a "punny" imagination.
We went trackside and saw a lot of eastern visitors! Had one each - CN, NS and CSX! And some coal trains carrying snow out west. Nice of them wasn't it....
tree68 Quentin - Happy Birthday! (And many more!)
Quentin - Happy Birthday! (And many more!)
Thanks Larry.....Lots of good wishes today....Much appreciated.
Your profression reminds me as we were out and about several hours ago finding a bit of lunch we had to pull over for, first 2 normal type ambulances and a larger Emergency Rescue Vehicle heading out of town.....Don't know anything about the emergency, but guessing it was possibly over on I-69 and an accident.....Some snow falling at that time.
Sat through our ambulance squad "strategic planning" session today. I think we got off on more tangents than even the curviest rail line. But we put together some decent ideas. Now we have to see if we can pull any of them off.
Biggest problem - they all cost money. Sometimes BIG money.
What's for supper? I know birthday cake is on the menu...
Hi Carl, yes....Muncie really does have quite a railroad history....long before we arrived here. I know some of it from conversations and reading and passenger trains went in many directions in and out of here some decades ago, plus the interurban and city streetcars, it all adds up.
Snow.....We did not get what they were originally talking about for today....just about a half inch of very, very wet stuff.....It's above freezing so that kind of kept it under control.
The Ball State Un. program sounds great....doubt if we'll get to it but hopefully many folks will take advantage of it.
Yes, another birthday under our belt so to speak....Actually not until about 10 pm this evening....I was informed many years ago.
I worked the entire day today without realizing that today was Quentin's birthday. Silly me--I thought it wasn't until Mongday. Oh, wait a minute...
We may have gotten some of your white stuff up here. We got two inches or so overnight, and thought it was going to quit. The sun came out, they changed the winter storm warning to a winter weather advisory...then the wind came up, the temperature dropped about ten degrees, and the snow started down again. Between the new snow and the overnight stuff drifting, we had a number of switch problems--poor calrods couldn't keep up. Fortunately, we could--and kept everything on the rails.
That program Monday sounds interesting, Quentin--wish we could get down that way for it.
Paula.....Not only cherries on top, but all over the chocolate ice cream along with the cherry "juice" all over it. I know, that's weird. Evening meal sounds really great.
....and more thank you's for additional good wishes to me from good friendly members.
Item: Article in our Muncie StarPress this morning.
LOCAL RAILROAD HISTORY TO BE SPOTLIGHTED
The program will be presented at our local Ball State University this coming Monday evening by long time railroad buff, Larry Campbell.
Featured will be railroad history around Muncie including:
Muncie's Citizens Street Railway....basically it was a streetcar service.
Also our legendary Interurban.....which went out in all directions.
Norfolk Southern....CSX.....New York Central....Conrail....Nickel Plate....Pennsylvania....and the C&O.
Some others were: Central Indiana RR.....Muncie and Western....Ball Brother's RR....Muncie and Western was a connector RR within the city.
The program will include historical photos acquired over the years.
One doesn't read about very many activities such as this very often.
For those who might know, Mr. Cambell worked at OMI for some years....that was a business of brass RR models. Have talked to the owner in the past. Not sure if they are still here in town or not.
Some of you may have seen their add in TRAINS mag. some years ago.
Happy Birthday Quentin!
Johnny, Don't forget about deep fried Ice Cream!
Today is a BEAUTIFUL day! Not a breath of the nasty 4 letter word, (I don't dare say it or even type it) just above freezing. Too bad I can't get out shooting photos today
Happy birthday, Quentin. May the day come many more times, with joy every time.
I had not heard of frying hot dogs; I’ll try one or two.
Paula, if the ice cream were in baked alaska, might you keep it on the warmer bar?
If there’s any of Mookie’s chocolate cake left, I’ll help finish it. She should not have to drage it anywhere else.
Quentin and everyone else, the hot dogs are ready and on the warmer bar, keeping warm.
And, I'll go ahead and tell you all what is for supper tonight: Quentin asked for roast chicken & roast turkey (dark meat) with creamed corn. We'll also have green beans, your choice of cole slaw or garden salad, homemade dressing, and homemade buttermilk biscuits.
It'll all be ready and on the warmer bar at about 6:30, 6:45 EST (except for the chocolate sundaes: we don't need the ice cream on the warmer bar, do we.) Now, everyone's mouths will be watering the entire afternoon!!
Happy Birthday and a tip of the Texas hat to you Quentin.
Enjoy your birthday!
Happy Birthday Mr. Quinton,
May you have many more.
.....I'm reading quite a bit about snow this morning here....We {once again}, have been spared. Forecast for us was 1 to 3" from this system passing thru and it must have shifted a bit north....We received just a very light dusting {not even much on the grass}, over night and I believe that's about it for today. And we're greatful for that. Possibly some from the "wraparound" tomorrow, but again, shifting north now might have reduced that possibility to a very minimum.
Don't need anymore snow here to supliment our water supply. Believe it's in pretty good shape now. Once again, it's fun to look out in the distance and watch for signs of upcoming Spring approaching. Much daylight time has already been added for us. Not too many more beautiful sights than when blossoms are in full bloom in our neighborhood. And yard mowing....ha.
Again, thanks all good folks here for birthday greetings. We'll try to continue to stick around a bit longer. It has been and is my pleasure.
From one aquarian to another and lets do it again next year.
Warming up in AZ mountains nbt still snow in the shady spots from the big one we had on the 9-10th.

A snowy happy birthday to Quentin.
The first batch of appointments have taken a pass for the day. Less than a mile to the office, so I am going to go over and hang out-maybe get some of the backlog cleaned up, followed by a session with the snowblower.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Quentin!!
Hope you don't have to shovel any of that "White Stuff"
that's supposed to come through today.
Happy Birthday Quentin - knowing you has meant being able to add another Q word to my vocabulary. Like you, there aren't many out there. Cheers to a scholar and a gentleman!

My....my.........early birds in this morning. Yes, this is one of many birthdays we've been thru. And we'll select some hotdogs later too....and look forward to that good meal this evening....
Thanks to all good members with the birthday greetings.....Older, but I'm blessed to still be here. So our thanks to all and any others coming in later.
, Quentin!
Happy birthday, Quentin. I wish you a happy day and many more birthdays. Paula, thanks for breakfast. At present, 26 degrees and clear in Carolina a few minutes after sunrise. I stayed up with the wireless and had a good time, so now it's time for bed. Everybody take care, stay warm, and birthday boy, enjoy yourself.
Good Saturday morning everyone. Today is a special day here in the Flat Wheel Cafe: Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday Dear Quentin, Happy birthday to you!
Now you all know why we had Thursday Night Pizza Fest instead of Saturday Night Pizza Fest this week!
Coffee, hot chocolate, hot cider and hot water for tea are all ready.
On the warmer bar this morning: bagels, bear claws, cinnamon rolls, country fried steak w/scrambled eggs, hash browns, turkey bacon, sausage, red grapefruit, pineapple slices, hot buttermilk biscuits (homemade, fresh from the oven) w/sausage gravy.
Between noon and 1 p.m. there will be hot dogs for lunch, with onion, pickle relish and the usual ketchup and mustard for the hot dogs. You have your choice of grilled hot dogs, or hot dogs split in half, and 'fried'.
Then, around 6 p.m., there will be a special Birthday Supper for Quentin. I'll let you all in on the special menu a little bit later on!
Happy Birthday, Quentin, and may it be a very good/grand day for you!!!
Up for an EMS call. Going right back to bed.
Might grab a slice of that dishevelled chocolate cake and a glass of milk first, though.
The place must be pretty empty tonight- I'm hearing echoes!
....Just checking in the new place......It's half time into our ball game so must get back to it as I hear them playing.
eau de chocolat....goes with everything!
eau de choc-o-lat - goes with everything!
Crumby decor here--and now I know who's responsible!

Smells good, though!
Johnny, I am planning on heading down Saturday the 7th as well(maybe even Friday night). Erin and I are going to stay with one of her friends that lived in Ogden and then we will probably head to SLC Sunday to do a little shopping then head back to Rock Springs that afternoon I am looking to get into the Photography contest that they offer during the show too, so that requires me to stay and pick up my work on Sunday afternoon too.
I really wish you would send me some white stuff... Looking at my dead lawn is depressing, it looks alot better in green or white! Really, Wyoming just doesnt have the resources to seed the clouds to keep up with what Utah takes out in thier cloud seeding. Guess that leaves more for Nebraska though.....
Okay everyone, here's tonight's Friday Fish Fry menu:
1. Catfish; 2. Cod; 3. Haddock; 4. Halibut; 5. Perch; 6. Jumbo butterfly shrimp; 7. Deep fried breaded oysters; 8. Scallops
Side dishes: 1. cole slaw; 2. corn on the cob; 3. fries; 4. hush puppies; 5. baked beans; 6. deep fried breaded mushrooms
Desserts: German chocolate cake; apple, cherry and peach cobblers; blueberry and pecan pies.
I was going to tell Mookie to stop dragging the cake around and start eating it (and offering it to us, too), but RJ beat me to it. It is good, with either milk or coffee.
Yes, we have not sent RJ much snow this week; what we had Tuesday was spotty. (I could say that it was Indian snow, but that might get me into trouble.)
RJ, Ricki and I are considering going up to Ogden on the seventh of March (by Front Runner, of course; we have not yet tried it, and Ricki especially wants to see how it is).
. . .Come to think of it, Some good coffee (high test and un-leaded of course) would be good with that cake.
I'll take a small cut (southernism) of that cake as well.
Well Mookie, I guess we will just have to eat some then!!! I'd take a slice! And that dandruff from the sky seems to be non-existant theese days.... sunny and wind here the past couple days. I noticed the deer haven't all shed thier horns though so that is a sign of more winter to come. Right now it's 35 and the wind blowing about 30 with a pretty chilly bite to it.
MC - Are you putting on the Surveyors conference in SLC this weekend or just attending? A friend mentioned that he was headed down to that this weekend for work. It actually sounded somewhat interesting.
Don't forget the Lounge over here--For some reason it never gets that broken-in appearance!
The CRO Extra Board has been cut in half--the gal I was refamiliarizing last month is hanging on by a thread. I got to work with her today, and she did a decent job. More cuts are coming, though, and if they trim the yard board like they were talking about, she (and a few others) may just be gone anyway.
Work on the new main line (third track) around Proviso might be starting already. I've seen an engine moving panel track and ballast cars around, and today I was hearing the two-short horn calls from road engines used for men and equipment near the track. There may be some pilot jobs put on eventually. I'll probably be able to keep an eye on this project when it finally becomes biking season.
Speaking of biking season--not!--we're under a winter storm warning for tonight through tomorrow evening. We'll wake up to an inch or more of snow tomorrow morning, and could get four to eight inches of the stuff before it quits.
