Bedford Park IL UP yard?
Posted by rsovitzky on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 2:53 PM

I hear some train names in Milwaukee (Butler) such as BUBP.  BP refers to Bedford Park, right?  Is that yard railfan-able?  How 'bout Proviso?

 Thanks...

Bedford Park is not a UP Yard, but UP does run to it a lot. The majority of the yard in Bedford Park is owned by the Belt Railway of Chicago as their Clearing Yard. CSX also owns a intermodal yard right next to Clearing Yard. The most accessable spot of the yard is the Cicero Avenue bridge that goes over the yard. It has sidewalks on both sides of it. The majority of the yard isn't viewable to the public, and the BRC is not known for kindness and compassion when it comes to people hanging around the yard.

We have been running trains MPRBU and MPRBUB from Proviso to Butler lately.

I can't think of any trains we'd run from Butler to Bedford Park--if they were going to Clearing they'd be suffixed "CH"; if they were going to Bedford Park, they'd be intermodal, I suspect.

Trains out of the Bedford Park intermodal yard are classified as BP. There is a train, IBPCI that runs down the BNSF transcon that originates out of the CSX intermodal yard. That is another thing, I've never heard of a MBUBP or MBUCH. I have only heard of trains that run between Proviso and Butler.

I was able to confirm today that no MBUBP or MBUCH trains have operated.

I'm surprised that MPRBUB hasn't picked up the name "Bubba" or something similar as a nickname.
