While I was Logged on to the site I could still see my photos. But I logged off, the logged back on and .... my photos are now gone.

Why does Kalmbach require the use of a third party photo site to post pictures ? Worried about un-appropriate pictures I suppose. I belong to another on line forum about 3 rail model trains and they let you post pictures directly and I have yet to see a problem.

Previously shown photos somewhat left the interpretation of which tracks the cantilever structure’s signals were for up in the air. This eastbound facing photo leaves little doubt which tracks the signals are meant for.
The Main 1 track (left) has its signal unseen way behind the camera. Main 2 (a dark track) is in the center, and that third track, a future lead type track (also dark), is on the right.
That single lamp head over a single lamp head mast signal is barely visible in the background erected on the ground in alignment between the two high up cantilever signals.
A Thought about Past Posted Photos
Reportedly, a reporter who became interested about the current great photo posting mess actually interviewed the CEO of the popular photo outfit that sent K.P. to the afterlife, and uncovered that the whole matter is a “sad” situation all the way around with no winners. Exactly what is meant by that supposedly will be found out this Sunday. If true, K.P. will attempt a link in this thread to the article for all interested here at the forum to read.

Ontario-Pomona, CA Activities Situation
By the Etiwanda Ave. overpass (between Ontario and Fontana), more accurately, the paralleling Loop Road overpass, K.P. got to the site AGAIN right after the power of a westbound passed.
More equipment was on site, but nothing popped out as dramatically different from last visit. Above, in the distance, that orange fencing was on each side of piping, as below.
In Pomona, on the west side of the Humane Way overpass, whatever they are doing was in full operation, though the staff had gone home for the evening.
Review and odd tidbits …
Before K.P. got to the Etiwanda Ave. overpass (first photo), as he was passing West Colton Yard (to the east), he passed that above mentioned westbound, with UP 8881 on the point. But, it beat him to Etiwanda Ave. Later, in Pomona, that UP 8881 finally got to the SP grade crossing at Temple Ave.!
A contact unrelated to this report advised that there had been activity earlier in the day between CP AL513 POMONA and CP AL517 NORTH MONTCLAIR on the Alhambra Sub AND between CP C026 GRAND and CP C033 WO TOWER on the Los Angeles Sub, and (“and”) the signal system had been suspended during that activity! (Why? All new signals suspended?) That all must have transpired before K.P. got to the area, as he didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.
This will end the update posting. However, a Second Section follows.
Second Section
By Etiwanda Ave. (and Loop Road), there was equipment on the south side west of the overpass.
Previously, industrial trackage SOUTHWEST of Etiwanda Ave. looked rather empty. This visit, however, things were quite different.
Looking east, towards the old Kaiser Yard, things were quite different too, with much freight cars and power.
So, in analyzing things, looking west (from Etiwanda Ave.), the second track may be laid to the north side (right) of the present mainline, whereas it looks like the second track may be laid eastward on the south side (right). The zone immediately west of Etiwanda Ave. is a big question mark for this analyzer …

Recent postings suggested ‘something’ was brewing and ‘something’ was going to happen this date in reference to the San Gabriel Trench. But, K.P.’s sources had NOTHING of significance, which didn’t jive with all the hoopla circulating. There may or may not have been some kind of congratulatory celebrating this morning, but it doesn’t appear to have affected us or the railroad per se.
Obviously, the incomplete trench will have to be put in service sometime and thereafter completed, but it does not appear anything of significance is in the immediate future.
Is there any activity on the sunset route east of San Bernardino? Is all of New Mexico double tracked? How about Arizona? And the bridge at Yuma. Where do we stand on completing the double tracking in California east of San Bernardino?
Looking at the google maps near Marsh Station road .. shows the stored power and reworked I-10. Using the measure tool it showed over 3 miles of stored power.

While it does meet the Rule Book defination of a train, it is not a revenue adequate train!

We seem to be getting off the subject of the Sunset route double tracking. Lets quit worrying about the bad Kalmbach and trick questions and get back on the subject of this thread.

MikeF90 (7-25): The Live Trench Track
Great news clip fined and photos, Mike!
However, I noted the UP “train” shown in the trench photo had no cars, just like a light engine move.
Since sources have said there are no circulars on the San Gabriel Trench track, which there would HAVE TO BE, I don’t think it is actually in service yet, but those light engines just used the hand throw switch at the west end to get into the trench track for PR purposes.
An interesting tidbit, and I am on shaky ground in saying this, but the trench track switch on the west end likely is a maintenance-of-way track without an electric lock, which would mean a regular train, such as that light engine P.R,.train, would have to leave the switch open when operating through the trench! If it closed the switch they couldn’t get out except by rescue by another train or some special absolute block authority between CP points, at least that is how I understand it.

Yes, forty years can make a mind foggy, very foggy, about which town a railroad goes through. But, TECHNICALLY, BOTH billio and you are right! If you look at the below Google map link, CP SP542 LOMA LINDA (on the Sunset Route) is actually within San Bernardino city limits, that southernmost little extension on the bottom of San Bernardino.

San Gabriel to Ontario, CA
Part I (of I-III)
Track equipment is now staged just west of Walnut Grove Ave. and the eastern end of the San Gabriel Trench construction.
It is understood by mid-August the trench track will be in service, so anytime between now and then the trench finally will be seeing mainline though-freights.
The track equipment DIDN’T seem to have UP decals on them.
The covered over track with pavement still waits connecting to the mainline.

CP C028 SPADRA’s east westbound signal bridge has two of four signals activated. View is from Pomona Ave. looking south.

The Cal Poly educational growing field is seen in the above photos. The road PREVIOUSLY giving easy access to the four-track wide right-of-way for close-up photos of the east signal bridge now has a relatively big sign (easy to see) by Pomona Ave., that says “NO TRESPASSING.” Things are become harder and harder to photo document any additional track laying!

At Humane Way in Pomona, the workers seemed to be working overtime and filling in the big hole that has been present for a few weeks. One had a hose and spraying the dirt being ‘leap frogging’ moved around.
A couple of workers were building sort of a ‘bedroom wall’ for unknown reasons.(right of center).
After K.P. walked off the Humane Way Bridge, he followed the LA&SL track(s) east to Ontario. Where Airport Drive east of Grove Ave. swings close to the tracks just west of Ontario International Airport the south right-of-way ground looks to have been dug up in places! Unfortunately, there was no quick easy parking, so K.P. passed on photos. He surmises Kinder-Morgan is relocated their pipeline even here, and not just between Milliken Ave. and Etiwanda Ave. on the east side of Ontario. That would finally clear the way for two-tracking the Ontario to Fontana single-track stretch!

Excitement at the San Gabriel Trench

According to the Alameda Corridor East Construction Authority, Walnut Grove Ave. on the east side of the San Gabriel Trench construction will be closed Wednesday, August 2, 2017 to Monday, September 11, 2017, CLOSED FOR NEARLY A MONTH AND A HALF!

When there will be a transfer from trains using the shoofly alignment to inside the trench is unclear, but when K.P. was there back on Friday, July 28, about a week ago, things looked somewhat ready for the track relocation. Reshown photos from that day:
In K.P.’s assessment, this or the next weekend will be the big cutover, probably on a Sunday or Monday, when trains will start using the track in the trench, days traditionally with lesser train traffic.
When looked at in an overall sense, putting the track that is now in the trench in service early on in that month and a half period will allow time for the shoofly track to be taken up, and the lowering of the roadway at Walnut Grove Ave.
If any will be out that way please give us an update report.

Status of the Pipeline Work

Part “A” (of A-B)
Necessity brought K.P. to Ontario and between assignments the pipeline relocation project was checked out. Looking west, between Grove Ave. and the new Vineyard Ave. Underpass, alongside Airport Drive (and the Sunset Route) much vehicles were present.
Looking northeast, note the line of dirt piled up on the right.
We now go over to the Etiwanda Ave. area.

Upon arrival at Etiwanda Ave. (Loop Road) and parking the vehicle, some emergency was taking place, and there was so much traffic log jammed in the area a fire engine with lights and siren got stuck in traffic and couldn’t move. The southbound traffic light had turned green and things started moving, including the fire engine!
Pipeline-wise, things looked much as before, however, there seemed to be a lot of equipment just west of Etiwanda Ave. / Loop Road and south of the tracks.
That group of equipment seemed to be feeding a pipeline underground eastward!
Looking east, there was no obvious activity, but that feeding the pipeline eastward must have been moving east underground unseen.
That pipeline feeding was at an angle, so where the pipeline was actually going underground is a mystery, at least at this time.
