QUICK!  Go fast and turn left!  Wait...go fast and turn left...(repeat!)

Gotta love NASCAR!  Anyone seen Smoky & the Bandit II?  The beginning is great: NASCAR for big-rigs!  Maybe that should be tried!  Mischief [:-,] Laugh [(-D]

Yawn. NASCAR says track will be dry one hour from now. They plan on running all 250 laps yet tonight. So far they have 85 complete. THe Nationwide race (formerly Busch) will be noon CST on Monday ESPN2.

....Dale:

I don't think we'll see the 5 and 77 in backup cars.  Believe that would be against the rules.  But Earnhardt, could be out {on the track}, in his repaired 88 car.  They had all kinds of body panels laying out on the garage floor seemingly making ready to install them.  Heard them say of 2 {A arms too},...to be installed.  I didn't see what looked like much damage to the actual running gear from what I saw as they pulled it in, but must have to replace those front end parts.

I turned over to another program {while waiting}, and missed them actually calling the race for this evening.  We can find out when they will run the remaining part of it right on here at Nascar.com.  I haven't looked yet.  I'm guessing it will be tomorrow, but really don't know yet.  If so, it most likely will be televised here.

Edit:  Yes, race will resume Monday morning.

Hi Quentin,

What happens now? Do the 5, 77 and 88 start Monday in their backup cars at the back of the field?

They never show delayed Monday races on TV up here.

BTW, thanks for the coffee. A stop here is always worthwhile.

That was one of the weirdest wrecks I've seen in Nascar.....{The 5 car and 77}.  They will have to work on that weeping problem at the track.  Believe it was the new track down in Texas some years ago that required major repair surgery from water penetration and a few other problems.

NO NASCAR RACE SO I WORKED ON MY TAXES. SIMILAR, ROUND AND ROUND IT GOES. SORRY ABOUT THE BAD PUN.

I WILL 'HIT THE GROUND RUNNING' IN THE AM SO I MAY MISS EARLY BREAKFAST. PAULA, PLEASE SAVE SOME OF YOUR ALWAYS WONDERFUL OFFERINGS, AND I TAKE MY COFFEE BLACK AND STRONG.

ABOUT COFFEE, WHEN WE WERE BUILDING RR,s YEARS AGO IN THE WILDERNESS OF AZ WE ALWAYS TESTED COFFEE FOR STRENGTH BY TOSSING A TRACK SPIKE IN THE BOILED COFFEE. IF IT FLOATED THE COFFEE WAS TOO STRONG, IF IT SANK WE ADDED MORE GROUNDS.

Rt. 30 is an interesting drive thru that area.  About 15 miles east of my home area there one can see 3 states and 7 counties. {At Grand View Point}.

It is where the famous Grand View Ship Hotel was located for decades.  Literally on the side of the mountain.  Rt. 30 was the main east - west passage thru there before the Pennsylvania Turnpike was built and opened in 1940.  Lots of tourists traveled old rt. 30.

My family had an Esso Station right on rt 30 there {Stoystown}, for 45 years.

By the way, back 5 or 6 or so years ago some fire bug burnt the Ship Hotel to the ground....It had been there for some 70 years.  Look in Google and I'd wager you can find info on it.

....dinningcar:

I have never given it a thought how each Post was assigned their number.  I believe our home Post was established earlier on as my father in law was a WWI fellow and always very active in it...I see it indicates on our Legion Mag. cover, established in 1919.  I can't say it was organized before WWII or not, but If I had to answer, I'd say it was.

Post 257 is located at Stoystown, Pa.  They have a nice Legion ground just outside of town, and a bar w/food avail and a brand new large addition to the building.  Have a Vietnam era Helicopter and similar 55 ton tank on display at the Post.  I understand the helicopter was flown someplace for the Post to pick it up to bring in to be set up on it's stand, etc....so it's a really nice one.

I haven't been in the new addition to the building yet and hope to see it over Memorial Day week when we go back to the home area and join in the activities, etc....Visit old friends.

Stoystown is located in southwestern Pennsylvania in Somerset County.  Find the Pennsylvania Turnpike {I 76}, and look for the Somerset Exit and our little town {450 pop.}, is 10 miles north of there on US rt. 30.

PS:  I will be watching the Nascar race too if the weather allows it to run.

Here is today's Sunday Dinner menu:

1.  Pot roast w/carrots, potatoes, corn, hominy, cornbread and cole slaw.

2.  Fried chicken, fried in an iron skillet, w/mashed taters & milk gravy, cole slaw, green beans, apple sauce and homemade buttermilk biscuits.

Saw a few snow flurries earlier; wonder when it will turn into the predicted rain showers.  Both were predicted for today.

Jack, hope the rain lets us, so you can watch your Nascar this afternoon!  Everyone have a good afternoon, whatever you plan to do.

WHERE IS STOYSTOWN, I COULD NOT FIND IT IN MY ROAD ATLAS?  MY ANCESTORS CAME FROM SCHUYLKILL COUNTY AFTER EMIGRATING FROM IRELAND.

RAIN IN AZ THIS AM SO I WILL WATCH THE NASCAR RACE IF IT STOPS RAINING IN SO. CALIFORNIA.

....My trivia comment is based on a 18.5 gal tank.

Also, the comment is based on non-leaded regular, of which both are totally satisfied to run with.

I let the low fuel light come on in my 1/2 ton Ram the other day. $96 was the bill.
Pan fried chicken, mashed taters and gravy is always me favorite for Sunday dinner if the cook feels up to it. NASCAR is having trouble with rain in Southern California.
EDIT: Pot roast is good also.

...Good Morning all:

It's 19 plus degrees here in Muncie....Overcast but getting lighter and to be lots of sunshine as the day moves on.

Have a little across the counter trivia to quote:  Both of our vehicles have the same capacity fuel {gasoline}, tank.  Today, cost to fill either one if it was totally empty:  $58 plus dollars............Same situation back in 1938:  $3 dollars plus....!!

Pot roast, cornbread, etc.

Couldn't get on earlier this AM - not sure why, but no matter what route I took, the Forum wouldn't come up.  It's working now, though, and that's what counts.

Only 16 here right now, but the sun is out in all its glorious brightness, so I'm not complaining.

Off to the day's projects....

Good Sunday morning, everyone!  Tom, sorry to hear you're under the weather!  Hope you feel better soon.

Joe, thanks for fixing breakfast and the drinks this morning.  I had trouble getting in  the door this morning:  someone apparently locked it.

Think I'll take a couple slices of leftover supreme pizza for my breakfast this morning.  Any requests for Sunday Dinner

Good morning and happy Sunday to each of you. I got me a dose of the miseries that won't let me sleep and that's why I am here at 5AM. I missed out on my weekly barbecue outing last night due to whatever bug I have. That in itself is enough to make me ill....... CW, how about some thick buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup??? Thanks

Tom

We have an A L post # 1 here in Florence. I am not a member of this post. Mine is the state post 0513. Not much need to transfer since my disability would interfere in attending the meetings...... From what I hear, they are a great bunch of guys

Guess it's time to get our Saturday Night Pizza Fest under way.  On tonight's menu:

1.  Anchovie
2.  Goetta
3.  Hawaiian
4.  Pepperoni/mushroom
5.  Pepperoni/sausage/mushroom
6.  Supreme
7.  Three Meat Pizza
8.  Calzones

No dessert pizzas tonight, as we have plenty cobblers and pies that I made yesterday.

Sarah and I did see a little bit of sunshine, while we were out this afternoon.  Not a whole lot, and it wasn't too bright, either.  Good thing I forgot to get my sun glasses.

....Jack:

That program sounds like a really good feature of the Post, doing for the Vets., etc....

#6 post....Believe that's the lowest number I've heard for a Legion Post.  My home Post is #257....It's back in Pennsylvania and I still maintain my membership.  That one is in Stoystown, Pa.

The overcast I mentioned this morning has turned to bright sunshine and clear blue skies starting late this morning.  Nice winter day.

I worked {running auto tests}, in the Kingman area many years ago and there I remember it being about 3,300' elevation.  But still lots of sunshine and lots of {then}, Sante Fe traffic to watch.

Hello to you all on this bright sunshiny day here in Aurora, IL.  It is a relatively warm (never thought I would say that about these temperatures) 29F with very little wind so I am going to get out trackside and watch the action for a few hours.

Bright sun today - and just over freezing.  We only got an inch or three from the storm that hammered the east coast.  We had a system engineer flying out last night - hopefully the fact that he was headed for Charlotte means he got out somewhere near on time.  The weather here was fine, but with the major NE hubs messed up, it's hard to say.  The ripple effect can be far-reaching.

It's past noon - I probably should get started on the day's projects...

Had to work until 3 AM last night.  I was working Parking/Event Security for a benefit concert for a little boy whose parents don't have much cash.  I heard they raised almost 35K.  Pretty touching.

Gotta throw some salt down today to get rid of more ice on the walk.  I caught some kind of switch cleaning machine last night in Menasha, WI lettered for WC but I haven't seen one before.  I'll see about getting a pic or two in here as I process them.  Maybe I'll find some time trackside tomorrow.  We've got a b-day party for Misty's (fiancee) cousin tonight so I don't think I'll be back for the fest.  If there's any pepperoni/sausage left over just wrap it up in plastic and stick it in the fridge.  I'll be happy to 'clean it up' tomorrow!
