Service Bulletin - Winter Weather Alert
January 14, 2004

A Level 3 winter weather alert is in effect between Buffalo, N.Y. and Boston,
Mass, and between Syracuse, N.Y., and Montreal, PQ because of extreme cold and
wind chill.

The Level definitions are listed below for reference:
Level 1 - Substantial inclement weather conditions are being encountered (or are
expected imminently) within the specified region. Scheduled service and traffic
connections will be maintained as practical to the situation.
Level 2 - Adverse weather conditions have affected the specified region.Local
switching, scheduled service and normal traffic connections will be affected.
Level 3 - Adverse weather conditions have severely affected the specified
region. Only critical trains will be operated. Trains will operate on straight
move and limit use of crossover moves to the extent practical. Local switching,
scheduled service, and normal traffic connections will definitely be affected.

You can also help us serve you safely by doing the following:
Keep the switch points clear of snow and ice so that the switch can be operated
safely.

Keep the area around the switch stand clear of snow and ice.

Clean walkway areas where the crews may need to access the facility or cars
during service.

Make sure that close clearance signs are free of snow and clearly visible for
the switching crews.

Today our high was about 5F.
Last week we have experienced temeperatures of about -10 with a windchill of -45F.[banghead]

Anything over 95 is hot. Then after about 105 it is so hot you don't want to do anything. Then add about 85 % humidity and all you want to do is jump in the lake.

Right now it is the coldest we have had so far this winter, that I know of. It is 23, brrrrrr. But it won't stay that way long. Our high today will be about 35 to 38. The sun is out so hopefully maybe a little higher. We haven't had any snow yet, and don't want any. But the last 2 or 3 days we have had weather around 50 to 60 and rain. So I am not complaining about the sunny sky and 30s now. [^]

Here on Ohio's northcoast it's 18F with a windchill of 4. I'm not sure what it was yesterday, but I ventured onto one of the breakwaters in Lake Erie to photograph the ore boat "American Republic" at the C&P docks in brilliant sunset light. Five minutes with my gloves off left absolutely no feeling in my pinky fingers. Brrr!!!

Here in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, it is about 25 degrees Celcius, a nice room temperature, and a great relief after several days of 38 degrees Celcius (around 100 degrees Fahrenheit). It's been overcast for two days, but we had only the merest excuse for rain yesterday. We have water restrictions, the supply dams are down to less than half capacity and we can't even hand water our lawns any more! Much of the surrounding countryside has been drought declared for up to five years!

....Overnight 2" of snow covered up the high water that has many, many central and southern Indiana residents flooded out....Temp. here in central Indiana is now around 16 and hading for single digits for the morning...Wind chill is a bit lower with a bit of wind. It is January and Winter is excerting itself this season....Unusual though....Temps. in high 60's...then...ice storm wiped us out a week ago....and now a bit of snow and real Winter temps....Hurry up March and april.

Delavan is on the main line for these cold arctic air masses. Understand this one has roller bearings and no dynamic brakes, so southern state residents should dig out those sweaters.

I have been hoping that the Dept of Homeland Security would get going on the northern border. These air masses should be stopped in Canada. LOL

As with the other SoCal posters it was in the 60s/70s F today. But I do travel to the east coast in Feb. so I'll get a week of 30s F temps. No President's Day Storm this year!
