To get back on track with the title of this thread, my ultimate wish list would include:

1. Enough money to buy a nearby short-line with enough left over to hire the brains to help run it.

2. Money left over, or profit, to get it up to Class II or III standards.  Invite NKP 765 over to stretch her legs while I ride behind in my custom Amtrak-compatible dome-lounge.

3. A railroad world where no more mergers take place just give brokers, lawyers, and accountants some busy-work.

In the real world:

1. a set of SPV rail atlases and a scanner that doesn't pick up the weather when listening to the railroads.

For me it would be buy the old NYC line Hennepin to Kankakee IL and the Illinois Railnet line that goes through Streator IL.  Bring the IL Rail Net up to Class 3 track work standards.  Then go to Mendota and have that 2-8-2 restored to operating condition and then run it in FREIGHT service EVERYDAY as my local engine.  Then run a Dinner Train on that line and also drum up any and all business I could to expand it.
Always at war with those that think OTR trucking is EASY.

Murphy I have 100 acres you can use but I'm nowhere close to South DakotaLaugh [(-D] as you can see lol.

I guess you probably do have the better site.  'Tell you what-if Kathy gives me the RS3, we can keep it at your place.Approve [^]

Well let me know murphy if she does, I have roughly 70 -75 acres clear farmland and about 25-30 acres of woods. If she gives it to you then Ill start laying the track... Trust me the farm aint making that much money even if the price of grain is around 8 bucks or whatever it is now lolSigh [sigh]

Cool site to visit http://www.trainweb.org/peninsularailfan/index.html - local site, very cool http://crcyc.railfan.net/ - Conrail site, also cool http://www.thedieselshop.us/MPR.html

1) To have many brass engines and rolling stock of the Milwaukee Road.

2) To have my own private rail car and travel the country to see all the sites.

3) To have parks like Rochelle at every busy train intersection. A train watchers dream.

My wish list?  The impossible:

 1. One more Trains issue edited and mostly written by David P. Morgan.

 2. One more outreageous book by Lucius Bebee taking on the current RR scene.

 3. A ride on the Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia Scooter from Chattanooga to Gadsden with a stopover in my hometown of Flintstone, GA.

 4. A seat in the observation car of either the Dixie Flyer or the Dixie Flagler.

 5. One more Sunday afternoon walking the platforms of the Louisville Union Station with steam hissing at the bumper posts and beholding the departure/arrivals of the Pan American, the George Washington, and the South Wind, in their glorious twilight.

If the above can't be arranged, I would settle for two hours of expert instruction in how to sort, handle, e-mail, print, and find the RR pictures I am taking with my new digital camera.  They seem to disappear or get stuck in my computer.

Merry Christmas,

PZ, I already have one of those (almost--my yard's too big!)

Carl -- maybe it's that your tower is too short. Big Smile [:D]

  OK, how about,

  1. To travel back in time about 45 years before all the major mergers started taking place.

  2. A year's paid vacation to travel the USA and spend the day in a different railroad hotspot each day.

  3. Kalmbach to publish a national railroad atlas (you guys would do an excellent job with it!).

  4. Someone to underwrite my railroad book wishlist.

  5. Someone to do the wiring on my model railroad (the rest of it will be fun).

I'm sure I could add a lot more but this will do for this Christmas.  I'll give you another list next year.

Boy, I smell the sweet smell of satire in that!  Surely someone on this board would have the talent to write that book, or maybe only a magazine length article would be needed to cover it.Tongue [:P]

A bit far out perhaps but I would like to see a SD40/SD40-2 (or one of those modern things from GE or EMD) running here in the Netherlands from Rotterdam to Utrecht or Amsterdam - Utrecht. Strictly as a scientific experiment to see how strong (or notSmile,Wink, & Grin [swg]) the peat bogs are beneath the tracks...

(Soon after delivery of the then new 1300 class electrics from Alsthom, France, in the fifties, one was involved in an accident on the Amsterdam - Utrecht line. They never managed to get all of it out of the ditch after it rolled into it. The remains were probably only removed with the quadrupling of the tracks which went into service earlier this year.)

greetings,

Marc Immeker

Ahhh, perchance to dream . . .

Take the throttle of UP No. 844 over Sherman Hill (step aside Steve Lee).

To rewind time to have Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 3780 saved from the scrapper's torch.  It made the last regular steam operation on the AT&SF Aug. 27, 1957 (50 years ago); Not a single member of the 3776-class (BLW-1941) was saved "for posterity".

To have a tourist train operation on Raton Pass: 3.5% grades between Trinidad, CO. and Raton, NM.; with restored second track on NM side, restored ATSF 2-10-4 "Madame Queen No. 5000, one way, a team of warbonnet Fs (the long type like F-3 Nos. 16-21 had) the other way, both with ATSF varnish, heavy (Calif. Ltd.) and lightweight (The Chief).  And, oh yeah, photo stands all along the way - and not a gung-ho, post 9/11 cop in sight!

For me it would be to ride the trans-Siberian railroad, preferably on the luxury one. Then do some Russian rail fanning.

Luxury

or on the cheap

I would love to have one of the new Blackstone engines painted for the Rio Grande Southern too!

Kathie, when you first started this thread, I was like most of the others that have replied; I'd like to have a long cab ride, a new Digital camera, a locomotive in my back yard, (GP-30) but now after reading all these posts and everything, besides Peace on Earth, I'd like nothing better than to see all Forum members act better, and not "flame",

or throw "rocks" at each other. Let's have some "Peace on the Forums"!

(and yes, I bear a grude or two myself)

Being Crazy, keeps you from going "INSANE" !! "The light at the end of the tunnel, has been turned off due to budget cuts" NOT AFRAID A Vet., and PROUD OF IT!!
