Wish list, huh? Hmm... How about special permission to traverse your favorite railroad's r/w in non industrial areas when demonstrated that you can do so safely? Like a permit similar to what hunter's carry.
You'd have to pay for and attend a 40 hour railroad flagger/safety course, be registered and have a liability waiver signed and on record, wear appropriate clothing and ppe and be required to carry a radio scanner with you so you'd know where the trains are at all times and stand down when a train approaches.
Think of all the really great photos you'd be able to get in those places where only railroders and their guests are permitted. I know that there are those who do this and "trespass" where they shouldn't (you know who you are ). They travel the r/w's and hide out in the brush or woods when they see or hear traffic coming their way only to reemmerge and continue treking along until they reach their destination.
I'd love to be able to legally walk my favorite railroad's r/w but I know that will never happen. Not unless I become an employee which then it probably wouldn't be my favorite for long.
This is, after all, a wish list and that's what I'd probably wish for.

I wish CN would doheritage engines, bring the WC SD45s back, and keep 5 engines from each of the lines it took over in their original paint schemes. I can just picture what a lighting striped green and orange EJ&E painted SD70M-2 would look like (CN is getting them next year. Or you could rename the entire system EJ&E or WC.

Don't hold your breath. UPs hertiage fleet was done to preserve UP trademarks, not because UP cares a hoot about its heritage lines...

Actually, they do honor them...drive through any Kentucky, Virginia or Pennsylvania coal town, and you will find monuments, plaques, buildings and street named after, or in honor of miners.
Every high rise has, somewhere in the building, a plaque with the names of the guys killed helping build the thing.
Go talk to the Boston Irish, and I bet almost any one you do speak to has kin who worked the high iron, and they could name most of the guys who died in the last ten years, all from memory.
There are monuments to them too....
Come on down to Pasadena, Deer Park or Jacinto City, and I can show you statues and monuments to the refinery workers...Both Deer Park and Jacinto City have pavilions with plaques and a interactive display, describing the refineries accidents, and Texas City has its City Hall and Municipal building named after workers.
Just about any city and town of any size has a memorial to its fallen Fire Fighters, most have something for their Police Departments also, Houston just unveiled a life sized Bronze of the Fire Fighters on Main Plaza...and I assume you realize what the park at Ground Zero is going to contain...
Yes, most train accidents fall into the realm of an "industrial accident"...but look at it this way.
Find me any facet of your life that has not, in some small way, been impacted by railroads...most of your consumer goods arrived, or at least traveled part way to their final destination, via train.
Virtually any town or city west of the Mississippi exists only because the railroads brought the people and material to build it.
Railroads and ships are the earliest forms of large industry in America, and there are monuments to the seamen, ships preserved as museums and exhibits in the Smithsonian to ocean going ships and their crews...
Should the guys and gals who die who on duty in these "industrial accidents" as you termed them be any less honored?
I am not saying the railroaders who died should be honored above any other...most others have already been honored, and rightly so.
What I was suggesting was maybe it's about time we recognize the sacrifice these people made...not as heroes in the traditional sense, but as the everyday heroes they are...they guys and gals who get the train over the tracks and to your city with the things you want and need, things most of us take for granted.

Saw this post and was thinking that there does exist a large brass plaque in Union Station in Washington with the names of Amtrak employees killed in the line of duty, so indeed, why not a bigger monument for all railroaders killed in the line of duty.

I wish for my own set of private passenger cars (enough to make a 12-car trainset).
I wish to be able to travel on every stretch of railroad track in the US and Canada.
I wish Conrail was still here.
I knew there was something I forgot to add to this the last time I posted to this thread... is it to much to ask for a nice size building say 40 x 60 or 60 x 80 feet to build the model railroad of a lifetime.... and trust me I didn't ask for money so it would take me a lifetime oh well just thought I would throw that out there...

Just wait and be patient. We recently had several Culver's open here in the St. Louis area, so I imagine they are going national. And the food is as good as I remember from Wisconsin Dells.

1, a private car to tack onto the rear of frieghts (for free ).
2, an AWESOME new (free ) camera (mine was cheap 4 years ago....).
3, a nice new (& free ) trackside house in Alatoona Pass.
4, a large enough (& free ) building to model Atlanta to Knoxville, and Atlanta to Chattanooga HO Layout.
5, about 5,000 other things (that are free ).
OH! OH! MY TURN! since we dont have to be realistic, here goes:
1. some real CNW equipment. by that, i mean freight cars, an SD60, SD40-2, SD45, amd a dash 8. and heck, why not a 400 train while i'm at it. 2 E7s and an E9B. and throw in some 400 passenger cars i can chill in and give rides in.
2. some trackage i can run these trains on and a way for me to control the locomotives via remote...or have a robot drive it while i relax in my awesome train. what. reality doesnt play into this after all!
3. the end of all ex-CNW motive power coming to Altoona. and be replaced with SD60s, tunnel motors, pure UP SD40-2s, SD70Ms, and the new stuff. especially 1995. er anything that isnt ex-CNW or an SD60M.
4. a new room added to my house with a big awesome HO layout added to it.
5. a big HO fleet of my choosing. i need me some tower 55 heritage units, a UPP train, lots of steam, and a MASSIVE CNW freight fleet
6. a new camera and a tripod. a camera with more or just as many settings as my current powershot A40 and better megapixels.
7. a jetpack and a neat-looking suit of armor just to look cool and fly.
8. MONEY!
9. the ability to always get at pizza and crazy bread from little caesars. no matter where i am. all i have to do is snap my fingers and it appears in front of me
10. the ability to not have this aforementioned food make me fat or give me any health problems at all so i can just eat it as much as i want.....in a lawnchair....watching my CNW trains.....ohhh man what a day!
11. a good light system so railfans can photograph my CNWs even at night. and a good security system so they cant loot or steal my units.
12. FREE RIDES ON MY 400! what i already wished for money. i dont need to charge people for it.
and then i think i'll be happy forever
but in a reality sense, we need to find a way to hypnotize people so that they can go to such a happy place in their minds. away from reality's harshness

This was, after all, a wish list...I doubt it will ever happen.
It seems that we tend to over look the every day heroes among us...not to distract from others, but....
Oh well, if wishes were horses, beggars would ride.
My wish list, of course apart from the opportunity to meet the delightful Ms Kube again, and impossible things like the ability to banish clouds when I am out photographing or to levitate photo line offenders out of view, would be a three ring binder with letters from the Presidents of every railroad in the country. And each letter would say "To Whom it May Concern, Mr. David Nelson has full authority to be on the property of this railroad without hinderance for purposes of railfanning and photography."
It would also be nice to be able to take train pictures as nice as my friend Keith Schmidt does. But first I gotta go digital. Folks are looking at me funny when I stop to load film ...

Kathie, when you first started this thread, I was like most of the others that have replied; I'd like to have a long cab ride, a new Digital camera, a locomotive in my back yard, (GP-30) but now after reading all these posts and everything, besides Peace on Earth, I'd like nothing better than to see all Forum members act better, and not "flame",
or throw "rocks" at each other. Let's have some "Peace on the Forums"!
