If the final round of mergers who else will merge with CSXT & NS???? Maybe KMT????

What is your fasination with rail mergers?

And who is KMT?

OOOPS!! It should of have been MKT had the K in the wrong spot.

MKT was swallowed up by MoPac in 1989; MoPac was merged into UP and WP in 1982, however, MP kept its name for marketing until 1997.

The next merger will be UP/CSX/CN and BNSF/NS.CP and they both will run KCS and the Mexican connection.

That's about what I thought too. At least it's better than the UP aquiring the BNSF.

Long live the BNSF .... AND its paint scheme. SchemerBob

No. Who in their right minds would want to take over something that does not make money? Amtrak has never made a dime sinse it began. Some freight is now moving over Amtrak routes in the northeast. Now if you mean buying the northeast corridor, and splitting it up between CSX and NS? Maybe, but there will be no Class 1's running passinger trains. They've been there and done that. No money in it.

CSX merge with a New Mexican transit line? ha ha ha that would never happen. The Roadrunner has no track out side of the state that I know of and runs in Alburquerque and goes to another city or more. This would be like CSX taking over Metra in Atlanta total bull butter.

None of the other railroads can afford to buy the stock of CSXT and NS, because they are extremely profitable.

The merger will only happen if there is an advantage for both parties.

CSXT and NS will lose big in a merger at this time.

A merger is supposed to save a company.

Mergers are not worth pursuing right now.

Reality will not allow a damaging merger again.

The next round of rail mergers are going to be North American railroad mergers since the North American Union (Hell we sold all our industry to everybody, why not just sell the U.S. right !!!!!!) is being conjured up right now similiar to the Europen Union. BNSF+NS+CN+KCS+O.N. Rail.
UP+CP+CSX+Ferromex+Ferrosur.  Since our United States government is in on creating a North American Continental Union (Why do you think all the money on this planet is worthless to create continental unions of all the worlds countries),  I wouldn't be surprised at all to see this in the next two decade's. Hey who knows maybe even will merge with a European railroad: BNSF+NS+CN+KCS+O.N. Rail+Freightliner of England.
UP+CSX+CP+Ferromex+Ferrosur+ French TGV Railway's HA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shock [:O]

Rahhhhhhhhh!!!!

These Global mergers means there will be flying trains or submergable trains.

How will the trains get from North America to Europe?

Figure out that technology! It will not be cheap or easy.

If we ever see a round of mega mergers (I personally don't believe it'll be happening any time soon) the most likely combo's will be:

UP-CSX: Both east-west RRs that would form a good coast to coast operation. It would make no sense for CSX to merge with NS, can you say duplicate lines? It'd be Penn Central all over again.

BNSF-NS: Same as the UP-CSX merger above. And like CSX and NS, a BNSF-UP system would be disasterous as well.

Anyone remember the Southern Pacific Santa Fe? I'll bet the execs are glad that merger fell through now, again, lots of duplicate lines. Local trafficmay not justify a line staying open, and operating 2 transcons would be fatal as well.

No One! How about there simply be no more mergers for American Class 1 railways be allowed. The railroads can expand all they wish but there just won't be any more mergers. That way we leave two carriers in the west and two carriers in the east. Sure that's never gonna happen... but it's an idea.

I could not agree more with that statement. Mergers are just stupid to have these days there needs to be compation.

I like NS but CSX has the B&O.

Perhaps not RR mergers, but mergers happen pretty often. Recent mergers include various Wireless Providers, the K-Mart/Sears merger, and BP/Amoco a few years ago.

If Pan-American Railways and CSXT merge one of the names will stick.

Pan-American Railways would be an interesting change over the CSX logo.

Locked Forever. How about erased forever. This thread needs a delete and a start over.

Preferrably some logic and hard facts included in the starting posts so that we can make a choice.

This concept was covered in a TRAINS article. Bergie could easily delete this post and post the whole article from TRAINS, so people will have some facts handy to make a choice.
