Had a break from the constant parade of ES44ACs and ET44ACs in a pair of SD60Fs on a manifest today.  Sequentially numbered, even...a nice change of pace.  I still like the sound of those big GEs under load, though...

Get to do some elfing around this weekend.  Now on vacation thru Jan 5.  If only we had snow now...oh well.

Bite your tongue!!Super Angry  We got just a dusting in our neighborhood yesterday.  It should warm up back into the 40's tomorrow and continue in that range through at least Christmas.  The only real problem for me is that at this time of year the ride both to and from work is in the dark and I can't see anything.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

I wish all that rain we had was snow...we'd have about four feet.

We are hosting an exchange student from Italy right now. He's puzzled at the lack of snow and at the fact that I like to go and watch trains.  In trade, he's really good at cooking, haha!

Dan, we'll have to find out why he thinks our hobby is so strange.  Are there more trains where he comes from?  You'll have to take him where the trains are bigger and heavier.  And do consider coming to Chicago (we won't take him to our favorite pizza place!).

Heck, a lot of people find our hobby strange.

The lake effect machine kicked into high gear overnight, but not here in Utica, or at home.   The areas hardest hit are looking at from 15" to 2+ feet, so far. We did get some snow during our second visit to the North Pole.  And I ended up standing in it since I handled the "ground work" at the North Pole (moving the train a car at a time so the kids can see Santa).  I think they got an inch or so there after we headed back south.

One more night of sold-out Polar Express trains and we're done for the season.  I'll be on as conductor again.  While it's fun running the locomotives, it's really enjoyable seeing the families enjoying themselves on the train.

Our P-E took the second hit in a week with, unfortunately, the second and third trains not running last night because of a subgrade subsidence issue that showed-up that could not be fixed during the show. A rapid melting of the snow in the hills above the track probably was the trigger and might also answer a couple of other foundation issues the museum was experiencing. A mechanical issue was the earlier problem. As much as the hundred or so folks on the train were unhappy, CRRM was doing the right thing by running a safe operation. An awful lot of good people were improvising to create an experience for the P-E in spite of the problems.

As much as the hundred or so folks on the train were unhappy,...

We had around 550 on each train last night...  That included a few folks who had missed earlier trips for some reason.  There were virtually no empty seats...

I expect we'll see the same tonight.

I just got back from a family Christmas party. Katie had me up to the house, along with her son John, his wife, their son, his wife's mother, Katie's daughter Jackie, and John's three half-brothers. A good time was had by all-even by Katie's dog who had not seen me since the middle of July. It was good seeing them all again.

I forgot to add that Jackie gave me an HO scale UP caboose, #207. I wonder if the N-scale Rudolph John gave me two years ago could pull it?

PE15 is in the books and the "North Pole" is back in storage.

Great turnout, lots of compliments on-line and in person.

Picked up my houseguest for the next week (daughter's standard poodle).  The pup is still exploring the house, but she seems to be settling in just fine.  She's used to an electronic fence, so she's maybe a little confused by the real thing, though.

Tree - Standard Poodle - pretty close to a Dalmation size.  Maybe kinda nice to have a 4 legged nose around again?

Standard Poodle. Is that the American Standard Poodle there?

I get easily mixfused about these breeds anymore.

Standard poodles scare me.  Poodles should be small.  Imagine a chihuahua or a weiner dog the size of a dalmation.  That's scary too.  (To be fair, I'm also kind of spooked by the idea of winged monkeys, but that's a different deal there.)
