Clarification: It isn't MY Chatterbox - it is a place that anyone can post and if so inclined, set it up for the next segment.
Carl & Mookie share absolutely nothing. Brother Carl and Sister Jen is merely a figment of our imaginations and does not claim any relationship. Any more than union brothers and union sisters.
I personally don't think most people here care whether I had the surgery or whether it was even noteworthy. I have never heard someone blamed for any health procedure.
Just like a story on a train derailment - the facts need to be straight.

I care, I hope everything works out.
I have Crohns disease so I'm no stranger to hospitals and such. I've had more hands stuck up my bottom than a puppet at a Mr. Rodgers themed birthday party.
Good luck all.
Our truckers around here have gone crazy in the last week.
1. First a TT fouls a crossing and causes a manifest to derail and tear up about 4000 feet of track but train stayed on roadbed.
2. Another TT at Main St crossing snagged new concrete panels at a the crossing requiring some repair.
3. Today at noon a third crossing had another a trailer really get hung up requiring a large wrecker to lift it off crossing. Thank goodness we got CSX stopped in time At this crossing a northbound would take out a dragging equipment bungalow and southbound would take out the siding CP.
Holy Cow! Batman. Let's not this get into one of those battles that requires moderators and buckets of cold water. Carl & Mookie- two of my favorite posters:
I can understand Mookie's feelings. I'm a private person. I tend to keep it all to myself. Heck- I never even mentioned my sex change operation on here, for fear that folks would make a big deal out of it. (Just kidding- 'thought I'd try to lighten up the mood a bit.) I can understand Carl's motivations. He's concerned about Mookie. I am too. On behalf of Mookie, if I were in her shoes, I'd simply say "Thank you for your concern". and "You know, that's kind of a private matter, and I'd just as soon not talk about it at this time." And then I'd hope that folks respected that decision and let it go. We all know how to send PM's. So, if we want to send Mookie a note in private, we can. If Mookie wishes to keep details of her life private, I can respect that, and hope others can as well.

Ok, that brings a really weird meaning to "Would you be my neighbor?"...
Funny, and weird at the same time....it sorta makes sense!

Sad phone call from daughter just now. Rosie, their standard poodle which I "dog sat" for a week, is in the final stages of kidney failure and will be put down Wednesday. They're all pretty down about it, which is to be expected.
I guess I'm lucky she didn't pass while in my charge (which apparently was a bit of a possibility) - my grandson might have never forgiven me for taking his dog.
The dog and I got off to a rocky start - she was very shy with strangers and it took a while for her to warm up to me. She will definitely be missed. After I returned her home I still found myself remembering that I had to let the dog out, or whatever, for a couple of days.

Tree - I still hear Mookie every so often.
I swear I see, every once in a while, my late Beagle, Crash, out of the corner of my eye. She has been gone for three+ years after being in my life for fourteen.

Definitely understood at our house. Give 'em a good life, short as they are, and be grateful for the unconditional love and loyalty. (Current "Skippy the Blunderdog" has some funny ways of showing he cares - but it's his house, he just lets us stay there)+1
had the local roaming by when I left work.Ns must not need it's train anytime soon.Time for chores and bed.
ns train still in the siding.has a BC rail lco on the point.did chores and errands.more to do.Tomorrow is Friday.
I know there are some railroad savvy people that check this forum and a lot of people go thru the CB, so here is a question.
We mostly have a silent zone around our house. Amtrak is one of the few exceptions and they run in on a diagonal.
Last nite I heard train whistles in a particular area for about an hour. Would work trains whistle in a silent area? That is the only thing I could think of that would whistle several xings (2-3). We have elevators in the area, but only with one xing.
Moo
Any train or engine will whistle when work men (MOW/signal) and machines are present. They also whistle when approaching a crossing where a train on the adjacent track is about to clear the crossing. Also to warn people or animals on the tracks or right of way.
Since you heard it at night, and it included several crossings, it could also be due to a crossing warning device failure of some kind. Without more info, this would be my guess as to why you heard whistling. (I don't know about the BNSF, but it's toward the end of the month. Our company officers have to fill their quota of efficiency tests and crossing procedure tests around here are popular for that.)
Jeff
Thanks, Jeff. You brought up things I hadn't thought of!
Gotta love it - Colorado shortline has been trying to abandon a 6.2 mile branch since 2008 - Now they reverse course and are going to rehab the line (right now its two 60# streaks of jointed rust out in the cornfields, what ties?)
Residential land butcher developers are gonna be pissed!

Old Forge (NY) FD was out for a chimney fire Sunday night as I was leaving the railroad. It was +44F there Saturday morning.
Busy weekend on the RR. On Friday I ran a special train from Utica to Thendara for the purpose of taping for a PBS travel program. Don't know when it will air, but I hear it's this fall. Don't know if you'll be able to pick me out in any of the shots... It was a long day, with several re-shoots at scenic locations. Drop film crew, back up, run through scene, back up, do it again, back up, pick up film crew. Repeat.
Had a lot more people riding this weekend than I expected, but that's a good thing. We occasionally invite folks into the cab for at least part of the trip, and a fellow who rode with me today was more than ecstatic. Really made his day! Had a gentleman visiting from Toronto yesterday - he's headed for Horseshoe Curve to look for heritage units next.
csx maintainer trying to get on the track.csx crew took paperwork with them when they left the train.Things backed up all around.need to get stuff for work tomorrow.
work is busy.Ns still has the train in the siding.something wrong with the cars or the track not sure which.chores to do.
The radios have been installed, and our new pumper (fire truck) is in service - and we're glad of that. It's a real upgrade over its 22 year old predecessor. Still have some dribs and drabs to do, mounting tools mostly, but it's otherwise ready to go.
Rain arrived this afternoon, although we managed to dodge most of the heavy stuff at my house. Did get a third of an inch of rain while I ate my supper, though.
Off to Utica tomorrow to pick up the materials for the train show this coming weekend. I'll end up doing most of it myself, but that's OK. I enjoy seeing the people.
We had some rain over the weekend but I don't think much more than 1/2-3/4 of an inch here at house.
A pretty good size lake north of town - lots of campers for the weekend and according to one "tenter", she had to move her tent 3 times because of rising lake water. Even had some trouble launching the smaller boats.
QE2 would have probably looked better out there.
Joe - looks like you had a great weekend with all the train traffic. It was so humid here, we didn't even venture out most of the weekend. People were complaining it was too hard to breathe. But this weekend should be in 70's. Perfect for trains and football. Go Huskers! (Again)
We had a cool August--with much more rain than usual. We are having cool (about fifty degrees) mornings.
MC, do you know what has been going on on the Moffat Tunnel route? For some time, the westbound CZ was scheduled to leave at 11:15 in the morning, and today the former schedule is in effect again. When I came home from the South (after seeing a few people I had not seen in sixty years) in June, we were held in Denver for a long time because the UP was doing some work (no description thereof) on the Big Ten Curve; by the time we were allowed to go, I did not see anything unusual there.

Picture says it all. Wonder if this could also be applied to RR crossings ?
