City of Fort Worth SD70MAC.
Posted by traingeek087 on Wednesday, March 31, 2004 1:21 PM
I was reading an article on BNs first shipment of SD70MACs, and they said they were going to name few engines. Such as BN 9400, the first SD70MAC delivered, was suppose to be named "City of Fort Worth", naming it after BNs system headquarters. I've looked at this photo http://www.trainpix.com/BN/EMDORIG/SD70MAC/9400C.HTM
and it said it was suppose to be behind the handraills. If you look close there is a silver metal plaque directly behind the handrails. Is this it? was there any other engines named? Anyone have a better photo? and were is this engine assigned now? I heard it was Alliance, Nebraska.

I don't know but that pic is from 1993/4 and was at the Amtrak station in FW during the inaguration of the new (at the time) BN headquarters there. I think from the new paint, the U.S.A. flags and the passenger cars in tow that this is indeed a picture from that event. I'm not for sure if any will be named but I too have heard that it was in Alliance, Nebraska.

At the time of this photo the 9400 also had CHROME grab irons on the front!!
The 9400 was just through Pueblo the other night and has been repainted into
the current style. Also the grab irons are white now.

Cream & Green was always the best on the SD70MAC!

THAT is the quintessential locomotive. Brand spanking new, the cream bright and clean, the pinstripes looking good, the BN logo non-faded. That was the apex. Sigh...I wish we could have the Grinsteins back, and lose the corny, wanna-be skate punk H3's.

I agree with what you other guys are saying, the dark green and cream paint scheme that the BNSF had applied to their SD70MAC's is a scheme that should have been left alone. To change the subject just a bit, I had the pleasure of riding behind two of Alaska Railroad's SD70MAC's; #1402 and #1403 in September of 2003, and in their navy blue and yellow livery, they are sharp looking engines!
