Compatible type RR Coaches

  • Can a L.I.R.R. M-1 be coupled to an M-2 or vise versa. Has anyone seen this before? What type of M.U. cars are compatible with each other. Can a Jersey Arrow be coupled on to a Silverliner? Thr pantograph arrangement will look very messy and ugly with a combination of diamond and half diamond shaped pantographs.

  • MU cars are usually set up to operate only with their own kind. M-1's, IC/Metra Highliners, and probably others have non-standard couplers requiring the use of adapters for emergency movements.
The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul
  • Some properties require mechanical coupling compatability between types/classes of cars, but not elecrtrical compatability, especially as they have incorporated new trainlines/data systems, etc. The mechanical compatability at least allows a bad order train to be coupled and pushed to a siding/yard, to clear the mainline.+
