  • New York city or New York state?
  • Hi, You DON't  go into rail yards. They are private property. Two that are accessible to see from public property are Allentown, PA and Selkirk, NY near Albany. I prefer Allentown. You can get close enough to the hump to actually talk to hump employees if they are not busy.

  • new york city :)

  • If i go to allentown, pa , do you think that one employee can talk to me? I want to learn the process of becoming an employee and what not! thank you so much by the way :) i cant wait to go now!

  • Start with a Satellite Map view from Google or MapQuest so that you can see all the roads around the railroad yards in order to decide where to view. The only way to be inside a railyard is to view it with a Telephoto Zoom Lens. If you had an inexpensive radio controlled flying platform with a High-Definition Camera then you could view the railroad from a different perspective. Make sure it does not crash land on the railroad property. You will lose your flying HD camera.

  • "I want to learn the process of becoming an employee..."

Most railroads will have a web site. Chances are employment opportunities will be listed somewhere on their site. Railroads also generally have a phone number in the local phone book in a community where they have a presence. Call them and ask about employment. I would think you will get much better information that way than going to a yard and talking with a random employee.
