  • I heard about that yesterday...it's not really a crushing blow to me, it's just another neat shortline (They rostered mainly ex-CN GP9RMs, but were leasing 2 ex-CP NREX SD40-2s as well as an ex-CN SD40) but it still makes me sad. I'm not sure what they're trying to gain with this, maybe a share in the tar sands? I can definitely see this going badly. Considering it's operated with 5/6 units that have already been written off by CN, I can't see them operating much longer.

I need to look the other way before CN's "strategy" makes me drop dead from sheer dismay.

*This is the point in my post where I actually read the article*

Well, I see I was right. I'm not quite as bitter anymore, seeing how soon it was to be abandoned! Seems like CP should step in soon to avoid a monopoly. It doesn't go quite that far north (And, holy crap, there are no longer any shortlines in Alberta as CN has swallowed 4 of them in the past 2 years, good job) so they would have to extend from their one line that goes north of Edmonton. I hope they do, by the end of this post I'm feeling significantly more bitter towards CN.

  • He was joking....Whistling [:-^]

Cool photoshop, BTW. (Or is it MS Paint?)

  • Looks like Paint to me. That's what I used for my Christmas cards.  Which were much more seasonal, btw. All red and green...CP locos in a pine forest, and gifs of lights and a Christmas tree inserted. Ahhhh, good times.

  • Ya know Atmo, I think I prefered your original version of your post to the edited one. Mainly because it was saddly true...

I actually thought the card was funny, though perhaps a tad odd. I guess I wouldn't have thought of putting a Santa Hat on locomotive....

Thanks for the compliments on the card too guys. I'd been wanting to do a christmas card for the last few years, but I never had a good photo. This one fell into my lap (though I guess I did have to work a little on the composition and exposure, but other than that). Hopefully next year's will come just as easy!

Neat shot Tyler. What's the snow effect? Cotton or something like that?

  • why thank you, noah. i edited my post cuz i didnt need to accuse anyone of something i dont know they're guilty of yet.

WCL, dont pick on me. you dont have a reason to, and we dont need more arguing. and FYI, i only saw "Cars" ONCE!

well i have been looking for a new road to enjoy and follow, and i think i may have found one that really hit home for me.

it's pretty far from where i am, but it's a great road. i love it. it is the "Reading, Blue Mountain, and Northern Railroad".

RBMN has such a nice roster of power. a fleet with variety and the bigger 6-axle stuff i do so enjoy:

this is RBMN 3054, once a proud CNW, it now sees a new enjoyable life on the Reading and Northern. obviously my favorite unit on the fleet, but their SD50s are quite nice too.

some day, i intend to fan this road out east..then maybe get some NS shots too. and visit the REAL Altoona. the yard Altoona, WI was named after. Altoona, PA.

  • Atmo, on a note you may find interesting, our BUDD Car #9169 was purchased from the RBM&N (90% sure, may have been Great Smokey Mountain) and is ex C&NW.

It's this "Magic Snow" stuff, you just add water and it soaks it up and expands to about 4 times it's origanal size!

Guilford Guy's snow looks WAAAYYY better!

  • Nope it wears North Shore Scenic Railroad Paint, a green strip above the windows and zebra stripes on the ends. It will most likely never be restored to its original paint because it isn't owned by the Museum but by the St. Louis and Lake Counties Regional Railroad Authority, the organization whom owns the Lake Front Line,  museums excursion line. The NSSR 9169 is lent to whom ever the operator of the line is. In this case it is the LSRM but who knows that could change. So as long as it stays where it is it will be NSSR 9169, BUT it is the OLDEST operating RDC in the world.

Anyway While I was out here I got to go to Moffet Tunnel that was pretty cool. I should have the pics up 2 days from now. If you would like to see some moutain scenery (With out trains) send me an Email or PM. I've also done some Snow Boarding. That was pretty fun. I didn't venture up to the Black Dimionds up at Peak 7, 8, 9, and 10. But I did hit some blue runs. Well I haven't been able to few the 2 pages I missed yet. So have a Merry Christmas, a late one, and a happy new year.
  • Jordan, good to hear you are having a nice time out there.

I've heard nothing but good things about LSRM. LSRM and Green Bay are two more museums I have on my list to visit.
