trainfest is creeping up as we type! and this year looks promising! a P2K CNW SD60 must be mine! seriously, you can get some AWESOME deals on this stuff there! if you know where to look, of course

The only good deals I saw last year were at Lombard Hobbies, but otherwise I was extremely dissapointed. There wasn't really anything else for deals, and if things were on sale, it was no different than the 20 percent off I can get at my LHS. The main reason to go trainfest for me (well, along with seeing people I don't normally get to see) is for deals, but if there aren't any it kind of quiets my enthusasim. I'm more than likely headed after the SOO 1003 first, and if I happen to make it down to Trainfest, well, then that's good. But what I'm really looking forward to is going to the North American Prototpe Modeler's layout afterward. It's an AMAZING layout, the best I've seen in person. Definitely worth the visit.

  • Here are more photos I have taken at Eola Yard the past two days.

A BNSF Z train ducks under a bridge just west of Eola during my trip two days ago.

A  pair of executives head west throgh Eola with a coal train.

Various power sits at the engine terminal at Eola.

    A GP15-1 switches Eola Yard.

Here is another shot of EJ&E 654.

On Halloween, EJ&E switch engines work Joliet Yard.

  • Nice power in those shots EJ&E! I haven't seen an Blue+Yellow AT&SF since '01! Very cool pictures.
The question of what CSX stands for comes up frequently on these forums, so here you go. C=Chessie S=Seaboard, X=Many More/The RR's that Chessie and Seaboard were comprised of (L&N, C&O, SCL, etc)

oh man. you're so right. i got my 2 CNW models both from Lombard to be honest. heh. $50.00 SD60s is such a blessing. i hope they surprise me again!

and dude, we really gotta meet up this time. we both were there last year, but you didnt show up at the forum meet. ah i'll see if i can find you this time. heh heh. boy if you think i can whine annoyingly online, wait till you see what i'm like when i DONT have to type my mind out. hur hur hurrr...

no i'm joking about that last bit. Tongue [:P]

and gragg, nice shots. i especially like that one of the 3 locomotives in the front. 3 BNSF units with cablights. that's GOT to be rare at this point. heh. and nice ex-SLSF GP15-1 too. i got 2 of those up here working the WN. i really need to chase them some day

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Yup, I got a CNW SD60 for 50 bucks also (just not at Trainfest like you). Such a sweet deal.

And nice shots Robbie, always enjoy some EJ&E. Jordan, keep posting your trip reports, it shows me what type of power the transfer might have. Today it was the CN 9449,WC 3027, and the GTW 5938.

  • i REAAAALLLLY hope lombard has them in zito this year. or some P2K stuff. a WC SD45 perhaps. (tch yeah i'm dreaming...) though it would look great with my P2K CNW SD45. one killer MU. i also hope they got SD40-2s this time. i want to start a collection of those. one per road. (SOO, CNW, DRGW, SP, UP, MILW, MoPac, etc...)

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • No prob Alec. Tommrow hopefuly I can get to Point.

Anyway I'm gonna try to get to Train Fest this year. Which vendor has P2K's?  I would like to get another WC P2K SD45, but they go dang quick.

Robby, nice shots. It's always nice to see some BNSF. Also nice catch on the EJE.

  • ANY vendor could have ANYTHING. it's the thrill of the hunt for me as well as a nice new zito and green prize at the end Tongue [:P]

  • Well, another busy day here today, with lots of photos involved again! I'll post them on here when I get time to, but it invoved running into CNW 8646 again at Geneva. Looked pretty neat to see crossing the Fox River. I stayed there for a bit to shoot two other trains on the bridge. Then it was off to De Kalb to see a eastbound UP coal train. I really HATE the new wayside horns at De Kalb. They sound like fog horns instead of train horns, ick, plus the Xs that flash to tell the engineer not to honk are stupid also and are annoying to look at. After some non-train stuff it was on to Rochelle to get some photos of the Burlington Junction, and to my surprize there was a ex-CN S13 there! Then afetr more non-train stuff in Beloit, it was back to De Kalb to get some westbounds passing under the CNW coaling tower.

Here is one more from yesterday's trip to Eola. A GP38-2, GP7, GP38-2, GP35 consist. That is quite a wild consist for the BNSF, and not one of them was in BNSF paint.

  • well today i was in green bay for the New London Notre dame football game & we won 28-16. after the game i went to the train yard to see what i could see well their were 2 UP engiens their for the coal train, CN 5402 & WC 3024 was on a train, WC 3010 & IC 6139 came in on L536 WC 3022 was sitting their as well. their was WC 1568  a ELS engine their too. these pics are kinda shitty.

    UP engines

    WC 3022 Bridge shot

    WC 3010 Bridge shot

    CN 5402 & WC 3024

    thats it for now

well idk whats next for the trains

  • Well, my photos are posted now so here they are.

Stop #1, Fox River Bridge in Geneva. The first train of the day was train MPRCB with CNW 8646 and UP 9087 (patched CNW, formerly CNW 8575).

2nd train was a eastbound Metra train with a F40PH pushing on the rear. A couple of ducks showed up to be in the photo. Smile [:)]

The third train was a eastbound UP stack train with a SD70M leading. The ducks are still there for this one.

Next stop was De Kalb to see this eastbound UP coal train.

Next stop was Rochelle. First train through there was this neat duo, I guess this would be the second heritage duo of the day!

Next up is a westbound UP ballast train with another SD70M on it.

Next was a stop by Total Logistics Control to see the BJRY, and a Canac S13 was there with the BJRY power.

Next it as back to De Kalb, but this time at the coaling tower, first train was ZCSLT (Da Bird!) highballing under the tower with three GEVOs.

Second was a 5 engine set of UP engine on a stack train, led by none other then yet another SD70M. Still looked neat roling under the coaling tower.

Last stop of the day was East Normantown (technically Naperville) on the EJ&E as I saw a train sitting in the siding, led by a pair of BNSF Dash 9s.

Overall, it was somewhat of a slow day on the UP, but still a successful day overall.

Brent, great shots! Three WCs in one day is pretty rare nowadays!

  • quick question, Erdman.. that bridge in the background...were you near the twin ports? because that bridge looks a LOT like the Richard I. bong Memorial bridge, a bridge i really like

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Atmo, I'm not Brent., but those pictures where taken in GB. I too really like the bridge shots. I want to get more like that around here.

EJE, cool shots. I like the BN SD40-2 and the ATSF GP60M, pretty cool.

  • Nice catches Brent, too bad the shots blurred.

Robbie, love that CNW lashup, and ofcourse the BNSF Z Train. I caught a Z train today with the BNSF 7010 and the 7828. Much more on my site also, lots of SOO action today.
