OSB if none of you have worked with it is a Censored [censored] !!! i droped a peice of it scrached my wrist, so now it looks like i cut myself, not cool Sad [:(] pluss it splinters like no tomorow.

but the celling of this room is my new rooms floor, when my room is done, i am planing to do a shelf layout that goes around the room in HO or O. i will have a pocket door in my room so i dont have to worry about door swing.

LETS GO TIGERS! (clap, clap, clap clap clap )
  • you people should be happy you got pictures of these roads! as well as the fact that CN doesnt use PATCHES! i have only caught TWO WC SD45s to date. those and some wimpy little geep.

CN is killing these locomotives off and everyone seems to hate them for doing so. and yet i get chewed out for ripping on UP for the murder of all of MY favorite road's locomotives. is there ANY fairness?

at least a WC SD45 has a museum life now. CNW was not so fortunate.... at least you guys have PICTURES of these DMIR, WC, GTW, IC, and EJE locomotives, and at least ANY locomotives from those roads remain. none of this is the case for CNW or me.

it is because of this that i shall say what everyone says to me when i protest:

CN is just doing what businesses do! blah blah blah get over it or dont protest it! blah blah blah CN didnt buy these roads out to spite any of you! etc etc

    SHEESH!

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • While Im happy for CN not using patches, I would also LOVE to see ANY SD45s anymore in CN paint or not. You are in the middle of everything CNW. I dont get to see WC often anymore at all, and you see CNW remnants everyday. Your problem is that paint bothers you too much. The history is what matters, and hey, even CNW nose bells are still on a good number of UP SD40-2s. But no, not good enough for Atmo, come on, gimme a break. Businesses do what they do, but its still sad when it happens.

And maybe the reason you are always yelled at is because the CNW merger happened nearly 12 years ago!

  • i'm surrounded by CNW zombies. it's not a happy place. i dont know why you insist on saying it is....

how will photographing said zombies help me get CNWs in my roster?

to hell with history. that's all been said and done now. they aren't CNWs anymore. and therefore they no longer mean anything!

  • I still see EJ&E engines all the time but do you think I care how often they run? Abslutely not! I know what happened to the WC SD45s so I've been going out to the EJ&E nearly every day trying to see as many of them as possible. EJ&E SD38-2s are very unique. It is not all appearance that matters, but the sound of them is amazing. Two of them literally shake the ground in full throttle. I know CN donated a WC SD45 to IRM which was VERY nice of them, and I hope they do the same with a EJ&E engine, but I doubt CN is going to be that generous again. EJ&E itself has been very generous to museums.  EJ&E really can't donate a engine now as they are short of power, but they have donated a boxcar, several cabooses, two interlocking towers, and a old passenger depot to various museums and historical societies.  I was just about to say the same thing about it being sad CN is buying every single shortline in the midwest. Whats next, Iowa Interstate, Indiana Harbor Belt, South Shore Line? Now with CP getting the DM&E and IC&E I have a bad feeling that CP and CN might start a big war with each other to see how much bigger they can become. About the UP SD40-2 paint scheme thing, SD40-2s are still SD40-2s no matter what paint they are in. They won't be around forever, and one day you could see them and ignore them, then a few years later they could be all gone and you say, "darn, I wish I would've photographed those ". I will be the first to admit that I have had it happen to me before, many times in fact. I didn't really railfan the UP back in the late 90s when many CNW, SP, and DRGW engines were left. Now there are two CNWs, 1 DRGW, and not too many SPs left unpatched. Remember UP has two steam engines, a A-B-A set of E units, a DDA-40X, and six heritage engines, so UP really isn't that bad. Plus they are keeping the two CNWs and the DRGW 5371 unpatched so unlike CN, at least UP does actually care about its public image. CN runs the Santa Trains each year, but that is about it. Other then that all they do is take over any short line they can or scrap power that they could be using to move their trains. I want my past back also, but that will never happen, and it is the same for the CNW.

  • Great, another historic railroad item is gone! Someone burned down the switchtender's shanty at the Brighton Park Junction. The worst part about that is that NS was planning on donating it to a museum.

  • let me tell you how flawed your logic is.

UP has steam...UP doesnt run the steam to Wisconsin. as far as i'm concerned, the steam program may as well not exist. nothing up HERE will change. the E9s. it was fun riding that train. i hope to do it again....in the next DECADE UP decides to send it up here!

keeping 8646 and 8701 unaltered is doing nothing good. it's distracting fans from noticing the other ex-CNWs being scrapped or sent off to brazil instead of attempting to preserve one! not to mention those 2 are the ugliest scrap heaps CNW ever bought. worse than even the AC44s

the zombies. when they're finally gone, i will be ECSTATIC! when i think back about them, i will remember they were tortured and murdered CNWs forced to perform revenue service in an ugly, boring, and degrading paintscheme. and i will be glad that they finally got to die peacefully. i will NEVER miss them!

my past CAN come back. all it takes is one zito or OY SD40-2 to go to a museum. i will photograph it and be happy it's there in CNW paint like it belongs.

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • The choice is yours whether a ex-CNW SD40-2 gets preserved. It isn't going to magically happen. Heck, I might bring up saving a EJ&E at our next NRHS chapter meeting since it is the time of year for suggestions in 08. You need to get the word out to other people in and out of the forums that one deserves to be saved. Chances are it really won't make a difference but you never know. I kept talking about getting a SD45 saved at IRM, and it happened. I'm not saying that the museum listened to what I said, as they probably were going to anyway. The thing is you never know. The majority of the time that is how engine gets preserved, but you need to tell some people, including some outside of this forum about your interest in saving one. One person being interested in it isn't going to cut it, but if you can get a bunch of people to be interested in it, then it could happen.

  • i'm already trying to do that, gragg. but i just dont know....

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Whatever you do, don't give up your belief in saving one. The most important part of getting a engine preserved is to stand by your thoughts. I'm sure someone else out there somewhere is trying to get one of those saved also. Every little bit increases the chances of something being saved just that much, but there has to be a lot of interest in order for it to actually happen. When 7525 was saved there was quite a lot of interest in saving it, since CN was scrapping them at such a fast rate. The bell gong on the front could help that part of the equation, plus maybe with IRM getting a SD45, a SD40-2 could be a possibility in the future. I really don't know what IRM is interested in other than CNW 4160 and a Metra F40C, but this SD45 being at the museum could hopefully get them into saving some more modern (60s-70s) era EMDs, but first before they get anything they need to make more room to store their engine, and there is a new barn in the making from what I have been told. I forgot to mention that when I was at IRM seeing 7525, I was talking to a volunteer who works for the EJ&E when not at the museum, and I did bring up to him that the museum should look into getting a EJ&E SD38-2. He said that would be a excellent addition to the museun's roster, and that there are several EJ&E employees who volunteer at the museum, so maybe there is hope.

  • Ok guys. Not the place for ranting. Save it for some where else. Railroads are business and we can't change it. The past is gone and we can't bring it back. We can only try to preserve the past. I only say the stuff I do of CN because I'm not to happy with what they do. But if RRs where in Rail Fan perspective we would still have steam. My goal is to get all the WC, IC, and GTW (DMIR is to far north) even the repaints. I use to not take pictures of repaints, but a good friend told me that one day they would be gone.

Anyway I was planning on posting my pics from point on Saturday, and my Neenah Photos and Point photos from yesterday. Haven't had the time to.

Lets just all get along, we here for pictures and discussing issue with RRs. Not arguing about the paint, or which is better,

  • Exactly, that is the point I have been trying to get across. You can't jump in a time machine and go back in time, and it is a lot harder to preserve engines than it seems. It isn't just go to the railroad and say "we want you to donate that". The past is the past, the future is the future. The whole CNW/UP thing was twelve years ago. The reason I say things about the CN is that they make no sense. CN is getting rid of the DM&IR engines and bringing in nothing to replace them with straight air. They are essentially driving themselves into power shortages and losing customer satisfaction. They are a business but personally I think they are capable of improving their service, and they haven't really done anything to show that yet. I really can't say anything bad about UP because I know many people that work for them and they are some of the nicest people you could meet. I still can't believe someone burned down the shanty at Brighton Park. This makes us that go to these busy junctions look bad thanks to people messing around.

  • you make it sound like donations are impossible. UP MIGHT donate an SD40-2 if it will make them look good. any business likes to look good after all

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • You do have a good point there. I see what you mean. That is one of the reasons UP still operates steam.

Here are the exact ways I think CN could improve its service.

    1. Focus more on safety and having less derailments.

    2. Don't retire 80 engines until you get new power to replace them.

    3. If they want to get of DM&IR power so fast, equip other engines with straight air to replace them.

Other than those reasons, CN seems to do a good job at getting freight throughout North America, but that doesn't make up for the interesting rosters WC, DM&IR, and IC (lets not forget about the GP10s and GP11s!) that were lost, not to mention the DM&IR and IC are very old and historic names. WC also is a older name even though the WC CN got was not the first WC! Wink [;)]
