It's spelt "PIECES" oh and I love how ya BRAG about who you were with "I was with a friend of mine who is a "yardmaster" in Neenah"......You just make sure you keep your nose out of places you are NOT suppose to belong....Everyone has an eye out for you and they all know about you in Point....

  • man there's good and bad news afoot in the railroading world. i learned a lot yesterday. and it sure looks grim:

the good news: december first marks the end of the leases on the dash 8s purchased by CNW. they will be sent back to their leasers. this, happily, means NO MORE 9087! WOOO!!! i can finally go to Altoona knowing i wont be met by this rolling tragedy of a locomotive!

the bad news: there's 2 bits of this. first off, NREX has just sold 14 ex-CNW SD50s to Brazil. we've lost another set of bold proud CNWs! and few will know this because they are distracted by that insufferable duo!

and the other bit, well, sometimes images explain this stuff better...

yeah, 3042 wont leave me alone. he was on the vipper yesterday. someone seriousely needs to rip that shield off of the nose!

  • Wow...That is a nice unit...Thanks for sharing that GREAT pic  Cool [8D]

  • that unit is everything BUT nice! it's an insult! there's nothing more sickening than a CNW with a huge UP shield on its nose! the worst part is having to call it by the "UP" reporting mark when clearly it's more CNW than UP. i dont see any boring hood text or armour yellow and harbor mist grey striping in the long hood! and since when did UP have green cabs?

  • Brent, I like the photo of the IC GP40. Lord Atmo, there are two patched CNW SD40-2s, 2990 and 3028 that have had their UP patches ripped off the front of them, and CNW initials are clearly visable on the front of 2990, so it is almost unpatched. I haven't see 3028 in a while but you might be able to see CNW on the front of that one also. Alec, I like the shot of the CN through the trees you got on Railpictures yesterday. I was in Chicago for Halloween related stuff but I did get some shots of various CTA trains, and caught a CSX led coal train on the racetrack at Brookfield.

  • gragg, i am fully aware of the CNW patches remaining. you dont have to tell me. 3028 had the shield ripped off the nose, yes, but this is not the case for 2990, which never received a nose shield to begin with. 3028 is in a bad condition right now. having just lost his class lights and now wears 2 ugly white splotches in their place. 2990 simply has grey discs which look nice.

but i hate all patches. for i cannot call them "UP", and am forced to if i post them online. it's horrible really

  • Darn, UP might be getting rid of the C40-8s. That means more SD70Ms on manifest trains also. Like there aren't enough of those on the Geneva Subdivision already! Hopefully they don't get rid of any of the SD40-2s next. Oh well, UP will probably end up buying more SD70ACes anyway.

  • WC 6005, and WC 3000 are coming back today. I'm gonna try to get them.

I missed them again on Saturday by like 10 minuates. So hopefuly I can see them today, I just need to get there right when they do. Other wise they will be buried in RR cars.

  • I heard about that consist. I would've went to the Waukesha Sub to try and see it, but I already had other things going on. Oh well, still caught some stuff.

  • No offense Atmo, but since when did you hold your head so high about things? Your acting like an immature know-it all. You quickly forget who helped you learn much EVERYTHING about identifying locomotives and numerous other things. No, not just me, your Keats friend also.

  • Thanks Robby! That was definately fun to think of that spot, and Im happy Railpics let something out of the ordinary (and cloudy!) slide for once.

  • Well today was interesting. I was waiting ALL day listening for the SB horn. My ears hurt now! But I never heard it. So my dad and I just decided to go there.

First up is a CN Dash 9. Dead [xx(] EDIT: Opps that a ES44DC. My bad.

Well I was very confused now, the yard wasn't even full. I didn't think the SB came. But then, it struck me as a suprise. WC 6005 and 3000 where there. But seprated. Sad [:(]

Woot, now I have all operatitiong WC SD40-2s! I think, because 6002 is retired, and same with 6003. Right?

Anyway I got one of the ebst looking WC GP40s left. 3002 is also another very good looking one.

IC 6259 is our switcher this week/month.

I'm thinkin' that IC 6259 and WC 300 are going to be on the SB tommrow. But it does seem kinda light. Well I just hope that they do go south, so WC 6005 can be our switcher.

Now thinking about it, I should of got closer to WC 6005, I could of. But better safe than sorry. But maybe next time I'll try it. Wink [;)]

I'm not trying to sound like a stuck-up snob. and i'm sorry if it came across like that. I will always admit to having limited or no knowledge on something if it's true that i dont. i will not say something for a fact unless i have done research and can find that it's true from a reliable source. take 3028 for example. there is an image on rrpicturearchives of it when it still had a shield on the nose. and a small bit of the shield is still present. you can easily tell it was torn off. i'm

and yes i will always appreciate the help you and keats offered me. it has been quite valuable for knowing almost all of what i know now. so thank you for your help, alec.

i, personally, welcome more SD70Ms on manifests in this area. perhaps the SD40-2s will be used more frequently on the geneva sub and i'll end up with the SD70Ms. that would be ideal for us both, Gragg. well, the most ideal solution for me is UP sending SD60s up here :P

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • I have noticed the lack of UP SD60s and SD60Ms in the Chicago area lately. Other than the trios of specially painted engines, seems everything on the Geneva Sub is led by SD70Ms, AC4400CWs, and GEVOs now with the occasional SD40-2, C40-8 or SD70ACe thrown in. I'd gladly send the SD70Ms to Wisconsin. Jordan, nice catches on the WC engines and the IC 62XX SD40-2s. It is nice to see RPs accepting something other then common shots, like this one I got in yesterday. Only 4 more to go until #400.
