Teen Railfan Place

  • Yeah, nothing really new here either. Kinda boring lately around here, so thats why I have been finalizing the places I am going to try in the Twin Cities if I do go next summer, and Northtown, Pigs Eye, and New Brighton are 3 places that I most likely will go to. The weather has been kinda crummy here, and it is looking pretty bad tommorow and Friday also, so probably no railfanning until Saturday. If I have time, maybe I will add some EJ&E shots and maybe some other stuff from the archives to rrpicturearchives, but we'll see about that.

  • When you do come up, tell me and I can probably help you out on places to be at certain times. Join www.twincitiesrailfan.com for the forum, you can ask anything there and someone will have the answer. I can help you out around Minneapolis but Saint Paul is a bit more unfamiliar direction wise, I wouldnt be able to tell you how to get places. A stop at Pigs Eye would definately be an order though, great spot for everything.

  • Yes I've been looking up photos from there lately, as well as many other places. I'd like the trip to turn into a EJ&E hunt, but the MNNR is my main target, plus I'd rather have EJ&E power stay right in Joliet. I'm getting as many photos as possible just in case, and I've been aggresively railfanning the EJ&E lately, going out almost on a daily basis. Currently I'm trying to document every EJ&E engine on the system, and with 670 a few weeks ago, I've successfully done so with the SD38-2s. The challenging one will be the lone GP38-2 in Waukegan. Oh well, at least I've got quite a collection of EJ&E stuff, including trespassing signs and a crossing gate. You never know with CN, with the WC GP38-2s up in British Columbia of all places! If I do come, the only days I know it won't be is when IRM's Diesel Days is going on. I plan to be at Diesel Days. I've went for that pretty much every year since 2003. That and Franklin Park Railroad Daze are the only two things I know I'll be at. I might head to get some EJ&E photos Saturday. Either that, or maybe a trip to Homewood. Deadline will probably be the same, but that really isn't why I go there. Hopefully a WC GP40 will be there waiting if I go. I haven't seen any WC engine other than sitting in the deadline since July. Ok, maybe I saw 7525, but I knew it was going to be at IRM before I even went. Haven't actually caught a WC by surprize since July. Alec, by the way I'm not joining any site until you join USRG! Just kidding, I'll join.

Kit bash, and paint your own. That's what I'm doing wiht my SW1500. So far no one makes a WC SW1500. Athearn did, which is the one I have. But they discontuined it. I think Concor makes a SW15DC in WC. (Even though WC didn't have one. Or did they? Not sure.)

  • You know, Alec wouldn't be the only person interested in those WC SD45s for MSTS! I like that very much! Well, I'm on the TCR website and now it won't let me on either! My screen name is EJ&E SD38-2 on there. The WC also had a lot to do with the EJ&E interchanging taconite trains at Leighton. Now since CN took over the WC there seem to be fewer and fewer taconite trains each year. Sometimes they would run with a trio of EJ&E SD38-2s, other times with CN or WC power if they wanted to get on the move quicker. Oh well, BNSF seems to run taconite trains with EJ&E power, but not as much as the WC used to. Maybe the business will pick up again when CN comes in, but they wouldn't be running with EJ&E or WC power very often. I just got back from braving the severe thunderstorms to get a photo of a EJ&E train in Joliet. Here is the photo, not the best quality but it does show that it got quite rough here.

  • I'll try to get on soon J. Jordan, no, WC never had any MP15s, and concor is about the last brand you want to buy from (paint sucks, but the drives are actually pretty good for a piece of junk).

  • Genesis MP15s look nice, if I had the money and need for road switchers I'd buy one in SOO and one in CP Big Smile [:D]

As for WC SD45s....I've downloaded so many for MSTS it's hard to remember which ones are good!

Anyways, I got one more on railpics, I don't know how...

  • There hasn't been many good WC units for MSTS...To me...These ones here are the best out there....They got the right sounds...The right cabs and yet the flashing ditchlights....If you look at a few of these sites here that have the TRS WC SD45 and such...There nice to
