I know there is also a MPRBU. 3300 just ran on that train a few weeks ago. Sounds like that line in Wisconsin is mainly a night operation. I've always been told there isn't a MVPPR, but I guess that has changed in the last two years.

The Vipper and MPRBU I've still been trying to figure out. The MPRBU/MBUPR are both relatively new, having just started this summer. Shortly after that started happening, I also started hearing a train known as MBUVP and MVPBU. I figured that the UP had simply started changing symbols at Bulter for some reason now. But I still have heard a train refered to as MVPPR from time to time too, though whether that was simply an engineer with a habit that is hard to break or really that train's symbol I don't know.

The Adams line does seem to have a higher percentage of it's trains at night, though there are a few daylight trains out there if you time it right. Just depends from day to day. Seems like around here you can almost count on a late afternoon appearence of MBUVP, and roadrailer can be found in light during the summer.

there is no MVPBU. the MVPPR was kept the same. originally it combined with the MITBU but keats told me that recently changed and now the MBUPR deals with the IT traffic. i would suspect there could soon be an MVPBU that replaces the MVPPR soon. thus creating the MBUPRB. since MPRBU carries IT traffic and MPRBUB carries VP traffic. i'm not sure how UP intends to speed things up with this idea.

they have also been using NS power on ZEMCH/ZCHEM lately. it's evident they're trying to speed train operations up on the adams sub. but still not yet to the point where the manifests become daytime trains.

some day though.....i hope. while i was granted priviledges to drive to other tracks, i'm limited to how often i can do it. currently it's only bi-monthly. so i still somewhat depend on Altoona for some action

oh sheesh. that's one majorly effed up tradition. there are some things in life that should never mix. one of those is trains and women. and when i'm looking at an NS SD60 flying down the mainline, i dont want to think "ooo hot girl!", i want to think "lean mean track-running machine". however, i do call 2816 female. she IS the Empress after all. but 261 is a dude

  • Come on now trains are neither hes or shes!  Seriously, do you ever here my call EJ&E 665 she or IHB 2925 he? I didn't think so! Hey, I really don't have a problem with those nicknames, my opinions don't have anything to do with anyone else's. Call them whatever you want, its fine with me. Thats just my $.02 about the he/she thing.

Agreed. In reality locomotives are genderless, but does it really matter? Who's to say I can't call a locomotive a she, or a he. Just my 2 cents too.

Anyway I got to go to the yard right after school today because I heard that 6005 was suppose to be there. Well guess what it wasn't. But an Even better substitute. Some Classic EMD power was there. 4 SD40-2 and a CN barn. First up was the switcher in town refueling. It is now so obvious now that CN contractes an Oil Company to fill the switcher, duh!

Next was a big surprise. As I we where going down the road I noticed some IC black. That is Great, but it wasn't until I got close enough to see the number, 6252. One of the 62XX series IC SD40-2 not to get re-painted.

Firts up on the consist was a GTW SD40-2, to bad it was re-painted. Could of made a nice consist.

Here's a shot of the full consist.

  • Nice catch on the IC 62XX series SD40-2. That is probably just as hard to see as the WC 6005. I believe there are less than 10 62XXs left in WC paint, but I might be mistaking them for the 61XXs, which there aren't many left of in IC paint either. There may be a few more than what I put, but I know there aren't many left. I'll try to get exact numbers of them left when I can. That former GT SD40-2 may be in GT paint, but there are only 2 or 3 GTW SD40-2s left, and those, as well as the WC and the IC 60XXs may be on a short leash by CN with the new SD70M-2s now being delivered. This includes IC 6071, the former prototype SD40X. I have heard people from CN tell me that the company is aware of 6071's history and that they plan to find a home for it once it is retired, but we will have to wait and see. The 61XXs and the 62XXs were rebuilt when they were still on the IC, many to -3 standards, so it looks as if CN will be keeping those for the time being. So far, I really haven't noticed any engines being retired by this latest batch of SD70M-2s, yet. Most of the engines currently in the three Homewood deadlines, which is upwards of 80 now, were retired due to mechanical failures or they have been retired for a while, including a couple of WC SD45s, the WC 6002, a BC Rail RS18, and the two DM&IR engines that have been there.

  • All of you probably remember CTRG from a while back and have been wondering where it went, but it isn't called CTRG anymore, it is called USRG now. The name change was my idea, sorry about the confusion for the past year. The link to it is in my signature. I must be quite unromantic becuase I never have called any machine a she. Big Smile [:D]

  • WCfan, Nice pictures of the IC, love that old girl's looks! Laugh [(-D] Seriously, I just consider them genderless..... I've seen tanker trucks loading & unloading tankers next to my old school, but never an engine.

    Finally saw another train, a CSX AC4400CW led a C40-8, a BNSF/BN SD40-2, another C40-8, and a GP40-2 on a SB manifest.

The question of what CSX stands for comes up frequently on these forums, so here you go. C=Chessie S=Seaboard, X=Many More/The RR's that Chessie and Seaboard were comprised of (L&N, C&O, SCL, etc)

  • Well, the trip to Minneapolis is still not official but I already have a whole bunch of places I am considering. Alec, I like the photos from New Brighton lately. That is one spot I am considering going to, hopefully to see the WC transfer. Who knows, maybe I'll even be hunting down EJ&E power when I go there! Also that bridge over Northtown is on my list. I'd like to actually know where I am going if I do head up there, so If anyone has any suggestions for spots, please send me a PM. I'd really appreciate hearing of some more places. I'm not going to go into any more detail about the trip until I know I am going for sure. Thanks!

Nothing new over in this end. Hopefuly I can see the switcher today, but it will probably be the IC repaint.
