  • I have the same type of model, but it is KATO's version, and it is of EJ&E 665, my favorite of EJ&E's 38 fleet. Great engine to go along with my fleet of 9 other various HO scale EJ&E engines (including a very rare custom built chop nosed SD18) in most of EJ&E's paint schemes. I just need to find something in the white chevron paint. I'm thinking the easiest way to do that is get another KATO EJ&E SD38-2, 659, paint over the J-Ball logo and replace it with the chevrons. Basically other then the stripes it is the same paint scheme. I've also got a few WCs, ICs and engines from most of the Chicago and St. Louis shortlines. I just need a Belt Railway of Chicago engine. I'd get the Athearn EJ&E SD38-2 but it has a J-ball on the front and chevrons on the back. EJ&E really never had that paint scheme.

i've seen your collections, noah. i commented a few of your pics if you saw

Yeah, I have noticed, and I appreciate them. Didn't mean to imply anything negative if that's the way you took it. I just meant in general, anyone who looks at my collection of photos (including those I haven't posted on the web) would probably note the majority are as I mentioned above. And maybe I'm just misinterpreting your post too.

  • nah i was just stating that i saw the pics. wasnt trying to be negative in any way. really liked that one of the E9s crossing the chippewa river cuz i was riding that train. too many idiots around here actually jump off that bridge for kicks. like they dont bother noticing the dam a few feet away...

  • Woah lotta talk over these past days.

Noah, nice shots. I think I've only seen DME once. Cool catch to see the annvasary unit.

EJE, cool shots too. Wish I lived closer to BNSF.

Yestersday I got my WC P2K SD45! It's a nice locomotive. Although it didn't come in the orginal box, and the guy packed it wrong. It must of been jolted forward because the coupler was bent to the side and up, and it braoke the edge of the Coupler box. Not a big deal, I just got a new coupler and fixed the box. The Air hose alo fell off but that was an easy fix.

    BTW the # is 6588.

  • Yes, a lot to talk about lately, 7525 arriving at IRM, the CP/DM&E/IC&E deal getting one step closer to happening, the CN/EJ&E merger impact on the Metra STAR line (which I don't think will happen now that CN is stepping in), and of course, lots of photos lately also, but that isn't ever a bad thing. At least some good news with the 7525 to forget about the mergers. Hopefully more good news like the 7525 yesterday will come along. Speaking of 7525, if you haven't looked, you can still see it at www.irm.org on the mainline webcam. Probably will eventually go into the locomotive shops to be readied to operate next summer, but hopefully not until after Saturday, but if it does, at least it is for good reason. Jordan, I had the same thing that happened with your WC SD45 happen with a KCS SD40-2 I got, which has a custom gyralight (it doesn't light up, but still cool). The coupler was snapped off of it due to improper packaging. I went ahead and got a couple of spare boxes to assure that all of my engines aren't improperly packaged. I'm looking at a possible new aquisition for my layout, IC SD70 1006.

    Athearn does not make SD38-2's.

  • Whoops, my bad, I'm getting those SD38s mixed up with my KATO SD38-2, which I may be getting EJ&E 659 to go along with 665. The #s of the Athearn engines are mostly of the engines EJ&E sold to DM&IR, except for 650 in the Outer Belt scheme, and they are all numbers of the straight, non -2 engines the EJ&E owned, the engines that put the Baldwin Center cabs off the roster. That one and 654 are the last unrebuilt straight SD38s left on the EJ&E roster, and those could have their days numbered once CN comes in due to that reason. The rest of them are either upgraded to -2 or -3 standard, mostly -3 except 670-675, the ex-Bessemer engines.

  • It's practically against the laws of nature for me to be stripped of my true love (Aside from Sam, of course)...I've been trying to make do with my other two cameras, but it's just not going that well =( these cameras just don't get the colour or contrast right! They're still fine, but I'm up the creek in three rolls of film as Blacks is no longer processing slide film!!!!!!!

Oh well, here are my attempts at photography since my vacation. I'm so constrained by only being able to take pictures at 50 and 28mm! I try to compensate by editing...but it doesn't really work =(

I also snapped a few of the last weekend Heritage Park was open.

    Well, you can't say I didn't try...

  • Well, I'm ready to see WC 7525, but first, I went by Eola Yard today and caught a couple of interesting consists on the BNSF, a BN/bluebonnet due, and a patched for FURX BNSF SD40-2 back on BNSF rails. Interesting to see BNSF get rid of it, then next thing you know it is running on again BNSF as a lease engine, still in full BNSF paint with a tiny FURX patch! I've seen it happen a couple of times on UP before, and a few other times on BNSF, but this is the first time I've seen it happen on BNSF for a couple of months. Back to the 7525 story, it may be at the museum but the updates are far from done! This next update is probably even better news then it being preserved! According to IRMlist, 7525 was successfully started up at the museum today and was under its own power again! This basically says that it it is almost guarenteed that 7525 will be operating next year, possibly even earlier then the summer. Updated: 7525 was switching cars at the museum yesterday also and test ran down the IRM mainline. Everything worked perfectly, so it now officially operating at the museum. Alec, you might want to be aware that the last unpatched DRGW on UP's syetem, 5371 is heading your way, as well as the United Way SD40-2. Both are due TODAY! I have a feeling 5371 won't be visiting there very often, if ever again! I really hope it heads to Proviso next so I can get my first shot at seeing it.

  • not much of a railfannin day for me today,

i went up north to merrill w/ my mom since my family roots go back to that area. well i knew their would be a train goin through ( L598) & i decided i was gonna catch it. well i been monitoring some of the locos in that area recently. the one i used was IC 6117. well i stood around the area for a while &  then my scanner goes dead, 2 my cell phone goes dead for traceing the train. well i waited & then in the distance i heard a horn. sure enough it had GTW 5950, IC 6117 & IC 3123. 3123 was picked up at bradley sothat means soemthing on todays 407 to wausau will replace 3123 in bradley. also to mention wausau when just before the river on 29 a CN GP40-2LW was leading 408 out of wausau. i think it was 9461 since that was in the area. i also wanted to stop at the yard but i forgot how to get their.

first shot i edited cuz i took it before i should have taken it.

  • Brent, I see you're moving in my Stomping ground. Just don't get to comfy or else you'll get the boot. lol, jk.
