Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
Hey it could be worse, in WV I have to drive 30 minutes just to see an abandoned trolley/freight line! 30 minutes past there I can get to Clarksburg, which sees 4 to 10 trains (all coal except 2 manifests). 25 minutes past there I can either go to Morgantown, Waynesburg, or Grafton. All of these places (excluding Waynesburg which commonly has Catfish, UP Big Macs, CSX AC's, and BNSF Widecabs) are pretty much strictly CSX Widecabs. I'm not complaining though, because that's the kind of tough mountain railroading I like.
Down south where I live in GA however, I can expect anything. Just this summer I've seen, an IC SD70, Guilford GP40, CN SD70I, CN Dash 8, CP AC4400CW, KCS SD40-2, ATSF/BNSF B40-8, SP/UP SD70M, DM&E SD40-2, UP SD70M's, plus various leasers. So I get a diverse railfanning expierience. Do I get tired of CSX? Definately, Do I get tired of watching them? Sometimes. Will I watch trains less? No.
Atmo, I feel your pain about CNW. In Cleveland, I used to love seeing solid lashups of CNW SD's almost daily. One day they just stopped coming by.
On another topic, how much foriegn power could you see on EJ&E compared to CN?
yeah the days have come and gone. i feel fortunate i was able to see the final days of the Itasca line before it died. consists of SD50s and SD60s usually. SD40-2s also common.
Well railroading just doesn't have a place for long lasting regional railroads, none that I can recall have lasted more than 30-40 if even that. The problem is that once they start pulling a profit, a class one swallows them up. Until the railroads that is the big 7 have all the "corridor lines" they need, I think we will see the disappearance of many more regional's, shorelines and other small railroads. The Missabe was a perfect example of this, CN just wanted it for it's interstate branch between Mn and Wis, a vital link that CN wanted for it's Canada trains. They were willing to waste millions on ore haling operations of Great Lakes Shipping, just to obtain that line.
O and Max Missabe power is tired that is why I think CN is getting rid of them. DM&IR was always specific on engine orders so the don't conform with the SD40isum of the world. NON natives just don't understand the beating those loco's undergo every trip. But i digress.......

Bill, welcome to the forums. Hopefully you will enjoy what you will find on this site. Regarding the EJ&E, EJ&E power probably will be around for a few months after the merge. It seems EJ&E owns tons of SD38-2s right now, 21 to be exact, but 21 is a very small number compared to all the engines CN owns. It will be a lot harder to see matched EJ&E power when the merge occurs. As far as I know, the SD38-2s, the lone GP38-2, 4 switchers and a slug are included in the deal. Sounds like USS is going to keep the majority of the SW1200s, as well as the SW1500 EJ&E bought this year. I have no idea what is going to happen to the SDMs or the high hood SD18. Hopefully they weren't included in the sale, since CN would probably scrap those pretty quickly. I have also heard rumors CN is planning on closing Joliet Yard and turning Kirk Yard into a intermodal yard, but logically I don't see either of those happening, especially with all the steel that comes from Kirk Yard.
i dont play any sports but i do watch them. specifically football, volley ball, basketball, baseball softball.
