I used to be that way. Now the main reason for me shooting big GEs is that if I didn't, my photo collection would be pretty darn empty. Speaking of which, there's a Banff turn scheduled out soon, so I'm hoping for pics of that.
btw, I'll be posting a complete travelogue once I get my slide film back, and though it likely won't be that good, I think you might enjoy it...

You should come up and see her running!

The Missabe Road: Safety First
Well, I had my three days of fun with 2816, and happy with what I got. Alec, nice shot of skytop. I sent in a few of them but they were rejected, what a surprize, not. The stuff on rrpicturearchives is just a very small sample of all the photos I took. I forgot to mention before when I was taking the photos from the vestibule car, I didn't have any experience like that befre, there were several other people there that had done that way more then me, and I went up there, and my camera nearly blew right off from around my neck! Thank goodness I caught it before it went fliying off the train! Hopefully if I do another ride on a train with a vestibule car I won't do that again. I've never seen the 1003 or 2719, but I wouldn't doubt some day I'll go see one of them if not both on separate days. Once IC 6000-6099 are gone, the only ICs left will be the SW14s, SD70s, GP38-2s, and the very few 6100s and 6200s left in IC paint. I don't know how long the SW14s have left as CN has rebuilt some of them and retired others, plus they have been repainting the 6100s and 6200s at a pretty quick pace. There are plenty of fake IC C40-8Ws and Dash 9s roaming the IC, but are really fake as not only did IC never own them, but IC didn't even own any GEs when it merged into CN. Now I am hearing the possibility of WC 7525 going to IRM in the next few weeks. I really wouldn't doubt this as there really wasn't much to rebuild on it. Probably just needed a few parts to be fixed or replaced. How long is 7495 going to be staying in WC paint at Duluth? I'm glad two of them were saved, plus don't forget 7505, 7517, and one other SD45 that went to DMVW. I haven't seen any photos of those since I saw them at Homewood waiting to be shipped out. About the numberboards on the ICs, they are interesting and unique, but I have seen a couple of them lately that have had their IC numberboards replaced with other style numberboards, but not CN style. At least only one SD70 has been repainted, plus you can't beat the horn on some of those IC engines.

hey guys im back to school and im actualy doing good this year. we are allready learning about railroads in my american history class so i can basicly sleep through class. lol
last time i was in we were all complaining about CN, and i would like to say something's
1. CN should %#@* off!
2. my railroad was (GTW) First to be killed by thoes CN pinko commies.
3. at least you guys can still look at something other than the orange and black theres only one GTW unit left in the yard here and its in rough shape its on its way to the paintshops soon.
4. CN has the most boring paint scheam possible, and i say this after seeing many IC and UP locomotives.
im looking for a 4-4-0 with a funnel stack, you guys know who i can get one from in HO scale?
It's not that the CN paint scheme is incredibly boring, it's that they've had it without much change since what, '58? Urgh. GET A CHANGE!
Well I've been taking a bunch of flash photos, and I can't wait to see how they turn out!
hmmm..bland uninteresting paintschemes that havent changed for eons.. CN is far from that
dont forget about a certain armour yellow parade in most of the western USA. at least on their spartan cab power. and most of their crash 8s. but i do credit them for bringing the nose wings and the flags into the scheme. but it's not helping the poor spartan cab units that still have the boring scheme
personally i'd love to watch CN trains any day over UP trains......discluding the draper tapers (GET THAT FILTH OUT OF WISCONSIN, CN!)
i'm not trying to start a UP bashfest here, but cmon. you gotta compare the paint schemes.
and CP's is really losing a LOT of excitement lately. they also seem to have gone the UP route and just slapped their name on the long hoods and be done with it. rather than try to look flashy or neat, but red does look kinda nice i suppose
KCS's new scheme is the coolest out of all class 1s now. although i DO give a kudos to CSX for reverting to a rather C&O-esque paint scheme
Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.
DMVW is the Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western.
They own the 7505,7510, and the 7517. I plan to try to get out there during Christmas break or maybe even a bit early. They are in central North Dakota.
Alec, thanks.
CN has done alot to WC. It took a blow to all of us WC fans when they got rid of the SD45s. Once they left the scene you really couldn't see WC on frights. I mean I see the GP40s on some of the SBs here in town. On the NB I've seen 6004, and at Point I saw 6006 leading a fright out. But it's not as common. Now with the possability of the SD40-2s going, now I can only see WC at yards, mostly. Luckely I like 30 minuates from a major yard, but with gas prices going up, I don't know. Go to North Fon du lac, that was a Place to go for WC, but now the only thing is WC SWs. I've also heard that CN might be scrapping the WC voxcars. Most of them where actually Built in Fon du Lac by SOO. Most where also fixed in Fon du Lac by WC. Now there putting Fon du Lac to Shame. But you would need to talk to Brent about this. I'm more of a Point Guy my self. to WC just isn't the same any more. Same with IC, GTW, and DM&IR.
(Sorry for spelling errors. I'm typing in a hurry.)

Shut Up. Please.
CN IS a terrible company, but not for ANY of the reasons you state.
Geez Max, these reasons are all just the cause of a personal prejudice against CN. Personally, I hate them for pretty much EVERY reason. Especially such instances as them destroying the entire ecosystem of the Chekamus River as well as pouring a shitload of toxic crap into Lake Waubuman. They're a menace! As for paint scheme, you want boring? Try CP's new one. It was nice when it actually HAD something on it! "Big Nothing" accurately describes the new CP paint scheme, if not in fact the BN.
Ugh.
Oh well, I think it's time to absolutely chock up this thread with my pictures, since I almost have them all back.
We start off going through Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan to Toronto. At this point my digital camera is alive and well.
Cutbank Creek:
Havre:
North Dakota:
Minot: (Didn't catch all that much, and it was high sun anyways!
Duluth! (There are more shots, but I don't feel like troubling you with those nasty inside-of-museum shots I took there)
A night on Lake Superior:
And the following morning:
Then went to Toronto, yada yada, bruce penninsula, sunset...
Then to a music camp. Oh joy. I wanted to kill myself, but ended up pwning as some crazy British dude.
Took a really emo shot, but blurred it the first time because it caught me unawares skulking in a dark hall.
Looks better small anyways.
Then back to Toronto, whereupon my camera died and I had fun with my 'new' untested 1960s macro lens.
Then went to Montreal, some interesting stuff in the Eastern Townships of Quebec...good light failed me.
Then in Montreal proper, I attempted to go railfanning.
The pictures from that:
And yes, the word you're looking for is unfortunate. The picture of the equiptment definitely turned out better than the pictures of the trains. There were three. And they all looked the same. And my cousins were amazed by my ability to tell if one was coming by looking at signals. Wow.
Anyways. The best part of the trip: Exporail! (The Canadian Railway Museum) (I had also lost my cable release, so was kind of buggered for shots then as well)
My favorite locomotives there: M640 #4744, a 4000HP AC Traction ALCo! Behind it is the only remaining Trainmaster, H24-66 #8905.
There's SO MUCH MORE there than I've shown, it takes up something like 5 pages in the Guide...
Next stop: Ottawa. Museum of Science and Technology. Home to 4 steam engines and a hidden C-Liner. Most of the place sucked.
Then there was this place. With this train. Was called Wakefield. The train was very continental European, and I see no point in posting pictures of it as a whole. They all sucked anyways.
Then some tiny wreck on the CP something river or something bay sub
Stopped in Marathon for the night.
Went through the states for, like, 10 minutes. The US customs officer was like "wtf" when we said we'd be there for half an hour and I thought he'd detain us.
Then no trains until Assiniboia. Even though we slept in a motel beside the CN yards on the east side of Winnepeg.
There are also some slide shots from the Little Pic river, but we haven't got that roll back yet.
Anyways, I know I'm kind of sucking at this for professing to be a photographer, but screw the world, here are my shots anyways.
Good night.
is there suposto be pic's on that post becuse i dont see any on my monator.
I would like to see some of the SUPER ROADS (CN CSX and others ) do what UP is doing heratage scheems, i would enjoy a CSX B&O throwback, but not the blue and yellow
Yea, there are supposed to pics, perhaps you have pics from http://s21.photobucket.com blocked or something?
CN's heritage units would definitely be the easiest. Put back a WC SD45 in service! Same with those BCR *shudder* GEs! I would say MLWs, but they put those out of their misery back in the late 80s when they lost a lot of my railfan respect for trading them in for crap eights. The MLWs were rebuilt for GE's Super 7 rebuild program. And we miss them so....
BNSF already has thousands of heritage units!
CSX and NS....they could really use some spicing up with those bland tones...
