Teen Railfan Place

  • havent seen any trains in a while.

i think tomorrow CN L531 will have CN 9461 for power again....... im getting sick of this unit

ill have to do some tracing some more on some IC locos & see if any are in appleton.

or hopefully they will send the 2 wc's that are their.

  • I'd hate for the same CN engine to be on the same train every day also. If it were a IC, GTW, or WC I'd be sure to see it a few times. I haven't had the time to put the Rockdale shots on yet, but I probably will be pretty soon.

  • well i was wrong my self.

we had 4704. ya nice to see somthin other then a GP40-2LW. & it was running long head forward. me & a few freinds went to a street fest in town today so ya. we hang out under a bridge thats on a small river so i caught it their & at my usuall spot. my freind took a pic of me while i was infront of it too.

  • Great shots of the 4704, Brent. As promised, here are my latest shots.

CSX GP15-1 1561, a YN3 GP15-1, and a rare Chessie System caboose sit at Rockdale. Here are two shots.

I'm working on trying to get up to La Cresent for the doubleheader on the 15th. I might be taking a trip to the Dells next weekend, nothing is set in stone right now, but I'll be 1 1/2 to 2 hours away if this trip happens, so if any of you see someone with EJ&E stuff (maybe a hat), it will probably be me. Its a long shot, but a possibility. So we'll see what happens. I'd really like to see this doubleheader. I'd like to follow it to Minneapolis but I'm not going to push my luck for seeing it.

  • Very nice shots EJE818, and Brent.

Well I was kinda lazy this week/last week and I didn't post my photos from labor day. I went to Point for my last trip. So here are my pictures.

Right off the bat I caught a WC loco. GP40 3011. Very faded but still waering WC colors.

I went over to the engine serviceing tracks and got some IC, and ALOT of CN. Funny thing about this loco is in the summer I saw her in Wausau, now it'sthe end of summer and I see her again.

Next a CN SD40-2W was sitting on one of the engine tracks.

On the ready track was GTW grey ghoast 5941.

Next in the lash up was a CN cowel unit.

Well I go and head over to the aprk and I had to hurry up and get 1560. She didn't stop this time and I had ran out of batteries just before this shot.

Alot of power on this train. 6 CN units, this shows how much it has changed scene 2001.

This train was alos carrying an IC coach.

I head over to the engine tracks to find out that soem of the locos had moved. This got me a shot of a IC GP40.

Go over to the yard and look who's there. My favorite switcher, 1552. She was working in the yard, btu they parked her in like the exact same spot.

Last shots of 3011 before I leave.

Here's a shot from the other side.

I'm kicking my self in the but now. I left right before WC SD40-2 602 rolled into Point. Man am I stupied.

  • Great shots, Jordan. Well, great news here if you like the WC as from what I have heard IRM is supposed to be keeping 7525 in WC paint because it was the last WC SD45 to operate. I am not 100% sure but it sounds like it is pretty much going to stay WC. I'm going to be busy again tommorow so not much if any time for railfanning, but I may be heading to IRM soon, hopefully with the 7525 waiting for me to take photos!

  • Thanks. Yay, I guess I'm going to be heading down there soon too. Next weekend we're going to Chicago, but sadly I don't think we'll be able to head across to the IRM. Sad [:(]

  • well just got some bad news VIA WCinfon yahoo group

WC 6002 was put into storage at Woodcrest shops last week. supposevly CN is gonna retire the SD40-2's. im guessing CN & IC as well cause of too many engine failures & such. the bad part is i only seen 1 WC SD40-2 which was 6005. ill prolly never get to see them all.

im guessing 6003 is in storage at woodcrest as well cause it pops up as Markham IL on touchtrace.

& WC 6006 hapens to be in Memphis the other 2 havent been updated sicne january.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, why is this happening!!!! The days of WC are dieing now, it will only be a matter of time. Man this stinks. I have only seen 2, 6004 and 6006. But I could of seen 3. I don't want WC to be gone. Sad [:(]

EDIT: Almost forgot, the GTW SD40-2s too., and the last one in GTW paint.

  • I wonder why CN would retire the SD40-2s. I can see them retiring them as they fail but I just can't see them retiring them all. They have done the same thing with the GP40s from not only WC, but GT and IC also. I'm thinking the 6002 had a major mechanical failure. Most of the IC 6000s are in pretty good shape, but a lot of those were extensively rebuilt, so I don't see them retiring those. I'm not sure how good CN maintains the WC or GT SD40-2s. There is only one GT blue SD40-2 left? Were the other two repainted recently? This is why I am really hoping what I am hearing about 7525 staying in WC paint is true. I hate to say this, but it is just a matter of time before there are no WC painted engines running on CN at all. WC is just as classic of a railroad as BN, Santa Fe, or CNW, and is probably just as hard is not harder to see WC power then those roads. Hard to believe that just a few years ago there were hundreds of WC engines roaming around.

  • Just heard 6003 was scrapped in Canada. Sad [:(]
  • EJE, I totally argee. I don't know how long the rest of the WC will be left. Gosh, this is bad. I'm spreachless. I just hope there rumors.

  • well on WC info somone said WC 6003 was retired in canada but touch trace shows markham IL.

6005 i think is in freeport IL

    6004 idk the whereabouts

  • This sucks. Well where's 6006?

  • I wish I could understand the CN philosophy. Keep their ratty old power, then replace the ones they acquire with their crappy new power!
