Teen Railfan Place

  • Congrats on the new job Lord Atmo!

I've been pretty busy railfanning again now that the rain is finally out of here, so here are some new photos!

An eastbound manifest gets under way on the old IC Iowa line with a fake IC Dash 9 on the point. I'll take that second engine over the lead one!

I then went to IRM to make up for the previous weekend that I was originally going to go.  In this first photo from there, the Twin Cities meetes Chicago as Minnesota Transfer RS3 200 and EJ&E motorcar 585 sit in front of the engine house. The 200 can now operate as it was fixed up this year.

The rain last week did still affect photos even though it was gone, but in a good way! MTA 7926 casts its reflection into a puddle.

Another reflection shot, this one of CTA trolley car 3142 heading around the trolley loop. 75 percent of this museum was underwater at one point due to all the rain.

The main attraction for the day for the kids. It may look like thomas on the outside, but on the inside it is a genuine 0-6-0. This one is not owned by IRM, however.

CTA PCC Car 4391 approaches one of 3 sets of operating wig-wags on the museum grounds. From wig-wags to semaphores to a unique variety of engines (in some cases engines that cannot be seen anywhere else such as the MN&S Baldwin Centercab or CB&Q E5), IRM has something for everyone.

    Your friendly neighborhood CNW fan.

  • Here are more new photos from last Sunday, taken in Streator, IL on the old ATSF transcon.

Cascade green 6837 heads around the curve at Streator.

BNSF 7691 leans into the curve, passing the glass plant.

UP 4481 heads west with a autorack train.

  • well i went on my trip well monday just about everything went wrong.

start out in neenah its raining, the yard guys are waiting for skys to clear, but IC 3123 was north end switching no pic, thier were 2 other CN's but dont know what they were. well get ready to head out & IC 6015 was headin through w/ the A407 up to wausau. i took it out of the car window. CN 5453 was trailing.

    Now down to Fondy

well i come i see CN 9427 & WC 1567 switchin, WC 6902 & WC 1566 were here too.  & when i get out of the car it was windy & was so cold well the sun came out & warmed up & a south leaves the yard( no pic of it) so i head out & down to byron hill. everything just got worse. the wind was bad & i was so cold & i waited for a hour & the train i saw didnt come. well then the wind calms down & i had to head down to milwaukee.

    the new caboose

    UP butler yard

DEAD. saw  some engines but nothing was operationg but i did get 2 UP engines. but saw some more but no good shots.

    Next stop Duplainville

saw some CP MOW guys & no trains.

that ends the bad monday of railfanning

    Tuesday thigns were much better.

    first stop duplainville again

on the CN i see 2 NS units takin some cars off the siding & added it to its train

then to cp some MOW guys again. well i did get 2 trains & missed the CN rock train.

the first was a bit too close but it works for me.

2nd had to wait under the bridge for amtrak to clear &  then i headed out. i went on optical zoom for this one.

    next stop Fondy.

first stop at the hobby store & picked up a HO SOO brown & white car.

    then the yard. 9427 & 1567 werre their & 1566 but no pic of 1566, then 7201 & a slug were here but no pic. i go get a pic of a S/B leavin.  i got stuck between the 2 crossings here i had to hurry to get over i missed a op of 7201 & a SD75I & a SD40-2W.

then storms were commin in so i head out. i also took some pics of the clouds from the car. both are in oshkosh.

EIDT: i resized the pics in photobucket. i resized them but i did it after i uploaded them to photobucket which i do all the time since i forget to do it before.

  • That Thomas is not an 0-6-0. It is for all extensive purposes a boxcar with seats in it.

  • Boy, that "Wisconsin Central" caboose sure is a disgrace to the WC. I've seen it a couple of times now, and I always come up with the same conclusion...

Brent, have you ever thought about resizing your pictures before you post them? They're awfully big, and even with my DSL they take a while to load. I can only imagine what it takes someone with dial-up to load them. For most applications 1024 pixels wide is big enough, and for a forum 800 pixels wide is often fine. And you want the final file size to end up less than 200kb. All of this is pretty easily done in any inexpensive (or free) photo editing software.

  • thomas the boxcar=gay

just stoped if for a bit not much going on i see

LETS GO TIGERS! (clap, clap, clap clap clap )
  • It would be so much better if that caboose didn't have CN on it. I had a feeling CN was going to do something to ruin it.

  • Sigh. CN ruined alot of things for use WC fans. Now we can add this to the list.

  • Yep, they sure have Angry [:(!]. At least they haven't repainted any GP38-2s, GP40s, or SD40-2s into CN paint just yeat. Hopefully they will take more of a CP style approach to repainting those, as CP still has dozens and dozens of SOO engines left in all three paint schemes. I've been getting lucky lately the few times I was along CP and I have been seeing SOO power, especially the red and white GP38-2s and sometimes bandit GP40s, mainly on locals and "Comet" transfer stack trains. Hopefully more to come Saturday when I ride the 2816 as I am leaving early in the morning and heading to Bensenville yard. Hopefully I can make it down to Homewood again soon to see what I can see. I'm going to try and get some roster photos of WC 7525. I'm thinking it probably hasn't moved since I last saw it. I still think CN should donate one to IRM, but I doubt that would happen. Still, I wouldn't mind riding behind one on the IRM mainline Wink [;)].

I assume you would rather ride behind it for 26 miles rather than a paltry 3 something miles?

  • Hey, its better then nothing, and I have a membership at IRM so the ride is free! I'll even take it if the engine were to never move and sit on static display. Someone there told me they are getting a WC SD45, but I've heard them say stuff like that before and nothing happened, so I wouldn't count on it. I was also told that Frisco 1630 might be back next year, but it depends on how much time they work on it. The primary concern right now is getting the Nebraska Zephyr repaired and back into service ASAP, so they might not get anything until the Zephyr is back. They are saying next year for that but I wouldn't count on it, it needed major repairs. For right now, CNW 411 and the Bi-Level train seems to be the most popular trainset they have. I'll be going back there possibly in September and I'll ask someone else that works there about the SD45 rumor.

  • Hey guys, long time since I last talked to you. Looking like a bit of conversation going on. Good, I think I might join in. With a few pics and a video.

First, a few pics of the storm I captured in Osakis, MN at the beginning of this month. Maybe Mr. Erdmann might like these.

This storm gave a bolt of lightning like this every 10 seconds or so. It finally hit our side of the lake at about midnight and it was probably the scariest storm I have been through in quite awhile. The whole sky turned green and the lightning was none stop. The rain was so heavy I thought it might come throught the roof. The scariest part was when I watched the glass on the windows bow in and out.. That was wierd......

A couple of DM&IR shots to end the photos off. Some neat stuff.

Now the video that impressed the heck out of me. Here are 10 EMDS blasting there life out with an Oil train. I think I would die if I were that little GP9.

    Enjoy!!

  • EJE818, sorry for not looking to the top of the page. Thanks for the complment.

James, WOW. Those are some cool pictures, Here we didn't get the FULL force of the storm. But it was pretty bad here. The sky was completely green, but you could tell there was a tint to it. Anyway here is my picture of the storm cloud taken from my room, and I asl included the tree that fell over in my yard.

Also, I liked the vid of the SP. Even though it wasn't yours. lol. Man SP was the place to go to get some nice AWESOME sounding turbos. In the vid it looked like the SD45T-2 midtrain helper was kinda sickely. Spewing black smoke and it didn't sound right to me. Well that's SP for ya, beating there locos to death. It almost makes me want to model SP, but WC is the RR for me.

  • James, great shot! I see you caught DM&IR 214. Thats one of the former EJ&E SD38s. That one used to be EJ&E 655 before it was sold to the DM&IR in the trade for the SDMs.
