  • nice catches jordan,

you missed 3010 on the 407 today. but it should come back tomorrow. its headin north at the moment.

2500 went back to fondy today.

btw thats 1563 not 1568. 1568 is like the shiny & clean one you saw

5956 was the lead on the first. 5949 is prolly stuck in your head from its job it had in wausau for  the long months you mentioned

ill have to check for more updates later.

  • Thats right, let the IC, WC, GTW, DM&IR and any other CN predecessor, or any predecessor of any class one such as Santa Fe, SOO, and CNW live on forever! There will always be WC, IC, GTW, and DM&IR engines. Homewood now has a freshly painted IC GP10 and caboose on display near the Metra station, Green Bay has WC 815, Duluth has the DM&IR SD9, and Illinois Railway Museum has a GTW Alco, and I am sure there are other blue and red GTW engines at other museums. Engines like these will make sure that these railroads are never forgotten. Someone needs to get a former DWP engine so they won't be forgotten about, but thats going to be hard to do since they never owned too many engines. EJ&E also has been quite generous and has donated many cabooses to various towns, as well as a boxcar and steam engine 765. 765 was donated to Gary, Indiana and can be found near town hall. Joliet almost bought it for the new Splash Station waterpark from Gary, but the deal never happened and 765 is still in Gary. Maybe some day there will be a EJ&E diesel at a museum somewhere, but EJ&E isn't going to be getting rid of the SD38-2s anytime soon now that they are mostly rebuilt to -3 standards, all but 3 to be exact. At least we have at least one class one, UP who realizes there heritage with the heritage engines and keeping CNW Dash 9s 8646 and 8701, plus DRGW 5371 unpatched.

  • By the way, Jordan, great photos! I dug through my archives today and found this photo of the now scrapped WC SD40 6001 running on of all places, the EJ&E! I thought it was interesting because I we were just talking about how the WC will live on forever. I will always forever remember the time 6001 ran down the EJ&E because of this photo back in April of 2005.  I wish I could see stuff like this more often 5 minutes from the house! Hey, I can't complain though becuase EJ&E's SD38-2s put on a great show.

Proving you never know what you know what the EJ&E has in store, here are two shots of three leased Ohio Central engines, 4023, 4025, and 4024, departing Joliet Yard back in April of 2005. Seems like these were leased just yesterday. Beleive me, I miss seeing these running around here.

  • EJE818, you got it man. Also, I have never seen 6001. Never will either. Looking through some of my hard photos (Photo's not on computer) I found 3005. I really wasn't much into rail fanning. I'm still not really in to rail fanning ether, lol. But 3005 got scrapped, now if I saw her now, I probably would of took a million pictures of her. Now I wasn't the last to photographer her, but it means allot to me.

Well I went back to Point today. I got ALOT of video and almost beat my record for the most amounts of WC locos in a day, 4. I got the same amount today. I also took alot of Video. So here's my report.

When I was heading to Point I always was hoping for allot of WC. But this took me off guard. The WC Map unit!!!!! Wow, I have never seen this unit! Wow.

1552 sits at the yard again. it must of been a very lonely nights

Well we came around the other side. 3026 has seen her years. What looks like White paint is actually where it's fadeing. But atleast the other side is good.

Another shot of 1552. Looks farmiler? Well  I guess she didn't even move.

Another suprise just around the corner. 1562 was parked close to 1552.

Because they where so close I got a picture of all three units. Reminds me of the olden days. Sigh, Wc was a good railroad.

Well me and my dad staked out by the park. More CN.

Now this REALLY caught me off gaurd. I didn't see it in the yard, nor did I even hear it. But it was a NS Dash 9 and a C39-8!

I said before I may not see 3 SD40-3s take off, but I lied. lol, Today I saw 2 CN wide cab SD40-2s take off. This is the train To Wausau.

We chased these guys to the bridge over the Wisconsin River. Then we lost them. BUT, I quicked saw some WC maroon. Sure enought there was a switcher there. 1560, I had already caught, but I got a better picture of her now. I had also seen the same guy I had seen last time. He was a nice guy and waved to me, again.

  • For that NS pic...The lead unit is a Dash 9...The 2nd unit is a C39-8

  • The Map unit sure has seen better years. I caught it for the first time a few month back working the local from Point to Plover (the Commercial job, I believe). Made for a nice little chase.

If I remember right, the whole map thing is actually a decal. A friend of mine worked at the WSOR when it was painted at Horicon, and when shipped out it simply had primer on the long hood, along with the Maroon and Yellow on the nose and cab. No real lettering what so ever. The WC wanted to keep it a secret what they were doing, and even the WSOR wasn't told what was going to happen beyond the paint (though they knew it was a sesqui unit). All they were told was to leave the long hood primer.

EDIT: Found my photos of the 3026 from 4/21/07:

Just finished switching a paper mill at Whiting:

    Aproaching Plover:

On the old GBW main at Plover shoving back to an industry:

Heading for the industries on the west side of Plover:

Nothing spectactular, but it was nice to see the unit. I really should go back and re-edit those photos too (since I got Adobe photoshop I've been fixing up some of my old shots that were done with lesser software. It makes a big difference sometime.)

  • Nice catch on the WC 3026! I have seen that one a couple of times. Right now, the Chicago area is a mess as one of the worst and most widespread storms in recent years came blasting through the area about a hour or two ago. Rail lines are shut down due to high winds, trees and cars on the track, power outages and flooding. Luckily for us in Joliet it seemed to be just to the north and east of us. Hopefullt there isn't too much damage in the area. Right now the UP Geneva Sub is shut down due to damage along the tracks, and there are flipped over cars on the CTA Red Line in Chicago. I was just about to go railfanning as they were saying it was going to be nice out today and that the rain would hold off until after dark, but that sure wasn't accurate. I really hope it quits raining every day here, it seems like forever since I last railfanned.

  • I'm on a dialup connection, so I couldn't really read posts...I've been in Toronto since Sunday and I've gone fanning once. It was cloudy. I haven't seen the pics yet.

Then my camera died, so I'm back to purely film again. I miss telephoto!I left my cable release at home, too, so I can't do night shots - And I forgot to get one when I was at the local Blacks today...I dropped 2 rolls of film off, so I'm FINALLY going to find out how good my TL-500 is!

  • Noah, thanks for all of your help regarding my upcoming Wisconsin/Minnesota trip. I would like to get some good scenery areas, and that Mississippi River location you talked about sounds nice.  My original goal was to see what was up in Duluth. My friend, Tim, told me one of the teen's on here, who I think is "coborn35" had a cab ride offer going, and I was interested. I don't want to sound "pushy" though. And as of now, routing and time of the trip are not confirmed, but I am going to try to get some school off in September. During next April or so, I may go to Folkston, GA to the CSX hotspot, so I am also looking forward to that.

I can post the links if you want. Thanks guys for the complements on the photos. And Noah, I REALLY don't think those shots need editing. They look REALLY good to me.

Well I did some RFing in Owen. I caught a CN train, and 2 UPs. But sadly then pictures on my digital are horrible. My dad's pictures on his 35mm will have to be developed. So no pictures of Owen. BUT I did luck out on something. We went to a museum in Colfax and we saw a WC GP30 Still in SOO paint. Now this is prolly like, "Oh wow who cares I get to go on one every day (lol)" thing for Max. But I haven't been on a locomotive scence I was 7. lol. So I got to go up there. I should of asked to go in the cab. But didn't ask. But I did get some inside cab shots.

  • That last picture was for me, right Jordan?
