Kankakee ILLINOIS????

Is anyone Here from around Kankakee ILLINOIS. My Question Is If You go west of Kankakee on RT 17, west to Herscher Blacktop(The road to Herscher) on the tracks there is a sign on the post that says KIRT It says it vertically. Does anyone Know what this means.

It could be a marker for a control point or the former location of a siding.

The daily commute is part of everyday life but I get two rides a day out of it. Paul

Well it certainly isn't a railroad related instruction like a whistle post that I have ever heard of. The only thing I can think of is possibly a named location to identify the location of a train or a location to report when reached.
