Who is your favourite Diesel maker. I would have to say CLC(Now defunct, maker of the Trainmaster which is known to American as Fairbanks-Morse) MLW(Now defunct(Bombardier) and of course GMD/EMD and the good ol GE FDL's.

general electric,especially the newer models.they are building the hybrid locomotive which is enviormently friendly,and is more efficent than current diesel engines on the market.for any of you great railfans out there who are intrested in general electric may i suggest a visit to thier web site,where you can download a screensaver.please visit www.getransportation.com,if you are interested.

One of my favorites from the early diesel era is Baldwin. My favorites were the shark nose series, a rather distinctive profile.

I'd vote for Baldwin as well.  Wouldn't necessarily have wanted to be responsible for keeping their products available for service, but always liked the looks of the AS616s, etc.

EMD, I like th elook of the individual fan housings. In particular the second Gen 48" and the raised F3 36" fans. It's something unique to the EMD design that makes them stand out. Also, I like the pointed front and rear.

ALCO for me.  While I loved the cab units from all manufacturers, PAs and FAs were my favorite. I also thought their RS11s, RS27s, C430s, etc., were on a whole more interesting looking than U-Boats and GP35/SD40 era locos.

But, that being said, I do like GE, EMD, Baldwin, and Fairbanks Morse too.

American Locomotive Company all the way.......no other manufacture did such a great job before during and after the coming of the deisel......we all have our favorite steam locomotives and im sure a good chunk are ALCO's and as mentioned before the Company has some classic looks......as well as signiture ALCO smoke

ALCO, with GE, Baldwin, FM and EMD in that order! Not having seen a live Lima unit I won't rank them. ALCOs had "personality", they let one know how they were doing visibly, and you could hear it, too. GEs were demonstrative too, but the newest GEs are not as much fun to observe as an AC6000CW! Baldwins were quiet, sometimes smoky, but they had what Jerry Pinkepank described as the sound of some pre-historic monster. They were different and compelling. FMs when they were maintained right were very smooth running and powerful. They sounded like they looked, which in the case of a TrainMaster, was mighty impressive.

oh i have a great love for Electro Motive Divison. i grew up watching them in CNW colors. what a sight!

Definitely EMD is my first choice, although it's followed closely by ALCo. There's something about those ALCo steam   I mean - Diesel engines and the way they smoke it up that you can quickly fall in love with....

In the later part of the 1940s GE was making a very cool locomotive. Can you guess!?

EMD for sure. I like their older models (SD38-2, SD40-2, Sd45, too many others to list) a lot. I also really like the SD70ACes and SD70M-2, very loud horns!
