I'd like to see that list max. SD45s on class 1s? BNSF i think has a few ex Santa Fe ones, CP doesnt have SD45s, UP doesnt have SD45s,CSX doesnt have SD45s,CN doesnt have SD45s,KCS doesnt have SD45s. And Im pretty darn sure NS hasnt had any SD45s for years.

The WSOR tends to do awfully high quality work at their Horicon Paint shop, and I wouldn't expect much less. Why do you think that the UP sent their "Heritage" units there?
Max, I'd like to see that list too. Admittedly I didn't even remember that the BNSF had any, but I can't possibly come up with 4 class 1s that have SD45 still in service. However, I could wrong, as I really don't know for sure....

KCS has: SD45R #6103, SD45T-3 #7200-7209
Norfolk Southern has: SD45-2 #1700-1705.

Umm MRL isnt a Class 1.
technically only 1 class 1 has SD45s. you're counting all the variants that only have "SD45" in their names, but clearly arent straight SD45s. i think DMIR's are actually SD40T-2s rebuilt from SD45T-2s. in which you could say UP has those too from SP and SSW's fleets.
i never saw the SD45-2 on the same level as the SD45. without the flares, it's just not very special. sure it looks awesome, but any hood unit with a spartan cab and 6 axles looks awesome!
but i believe several regionals and shortlines still have an SD45 or 2 anyway. so you ARE right. some still remain. but not many when you take out the spin-offs (dash 2s, tunnel motors, etc)

Max, Interesting list. I can't say I put 100 percent faith in how recent it is though, as the IMRL went under back in 2002, and they are now the Iowa, Chicago, and Eastern. And to my knowledge the ICE only has one SD45 left. And like the other Max said, I don't really count the SD45s with other designations (T-2 on the Dimmer units for instance),as many are modified to the point where they don't look like SD45s anymore (then again there are some LLPX leasers I've seen that look like SD45s with the flared radiators but are offically called SD40-2s). But, still an interesting list none the less.

One thing I forgot to mention, most of the IMRL SD45s were sent to MRL after IMRL became IC&E. IC&E mainly rosters SD40-2s and GP40-2s now along with one or two SD45s.

I see what you guys are saying. With all those #s, how could it possibly be an SD45? You need to look at the internal components. The outside may be different than what you're looking for.
The SD45T-2 is infact an SD45. It has a 645 diesel engine and has all the components of an SD45. The WC took there SD45s and lowered the RPMs on the engine so it couldn't put out all 3600 HP. Instead they had it so it put out 3000 HP. They did this so that the Cam shaft wouldn't brake so easily as it was a problem with the 645 diesel engine. The same with the SD45T-2. So it also put out 3000 HP, which is why crew members usually refered to them as SD40T-2s. The -2 is telling you that the locomotive has updated control panel and electrical components. Nothing to big in that category. So if you look at this locomotive, it is an SD45. Just the outside was designed differently. Which is why they are called tunnel motors. Designed for use in long tunnels.
This pretty much goes the same with the SD45-2. Same diesel engine. Same meaning with the -2., but you're looking at it from the outside. That's fine everyone has there own idea on what an SD45 should look like. But you need to take into the fact that they are still SD45s. No matter how you look at them.

This is my point exactly. You consider the flared radiator fan the part that makes the SD45 up. Well, what happens if The SD45T-2 was the first SD45? And then a couple of years later the SD45 with the flared radiator fans came out. Well, You'd all think that the SD45T-2 was the SD45.
When a manufacturer looks at there locomotive, they don't just say, "Oh, I think I will call this locomotive an SD45." They look at what was put into it. For instance the SD45. SD stands for special duty. In other words, Freight service. The 45 came from the 6"45" diesel engine used in the locomotive. The SD45T-2, the same thing except for a few minor differences. T standing for the type of car body, Tunnel motor. -2 standing for updated electrical and control panels.
SD45-2 SD= special duty. 45= 645 diesel engine. -2= updated electrical. Without flared fans. A new design, just didn't add a letter into the name.
But still an SD45.
Hopefully you see what I'm trying to get at.
