What I did on my summer vacation

  • Horseshoe Curve, Gallitzin Tunnels, two nights at the Station Inn, Cresson, PA
and a visit to EBT and the adjacent streetcar museum. Time well spent.
  • Yep, took in both the San Diego Model RR in Balboa Pk and rode the summer train from Portland to Astoria and back.

  • My wife got me as a birthday present a day as a railroad engineer on a steam loco at the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad museum in Portland, Maine. This museum has the largest selection of two foot Maine equipment in the country and is well worth a visit. I also had a great time running the engine.

  • I took the family to the Black Hills of SD and we rode the 1880 train in Keystone. It is a beautiful ride through the hills behind a compound steamer.

  • I had made plans to visit Sugar Creek, Ohio's Ohio Central steam trains in July, but they ceased passenger operations in May.

  • I made it to 2 of my favorites:
The Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL (multiple times as it is nearby)
and to the Museum of Transport in St. Louis

I also really enjoyed seeing the Anheiser-Busch brewery tour but not only for the obvious reasons. I knew that Miller shipped by rail but I didn't know that Budweiser shipped by rail or that they ship quite a large volume by rail. It could make for some interesting modeling! :)
